As a kid it was very much safer now it's kind of dangerous now we don't get many trick or treaters at our door or see them walk past. Kids are too scared to go out it's all because of teenagers because for the past few years at least theyve been scaring kids by going down streets on their bikes and throwing eggs at them and flower too they even throw them at houses too. We had eggs thrown at our house once. Even having the police at them they still keep doing it every year which is a shame. Every morning on 1st November you see flower everywhere

All this crazy nonsense really takes the fun out of Halloween..

It is very safe here on Martha's Vineyard. The kids go out Trick or Treating and The schools have big Halloween parties with all kinds of activities and games and food! The fire departments pass out glow sticks and glow necklaces to the children, all of the communities get together to provide a safe and fun Halloween for all of the children.

Same with us KidzRme! We have a blast with Halloween around my neighborhood. It's a shame that it has been ruined by a few that affects all.

I don't participate in this event. And it's nice where I live for we never get any trick or treaters. It is sad that some think it's a free for all and anything goes which includes destroying property and scaring younger children. I personally think more emphasis needs to be put on Thanksgiving in the Fall not the devil's holiday.

it's alot of fun where i live, parents take their children trick or treating, all the kids dress up and some people host halloween parties. the problem with halloween here though is the night before known as "mizzy night" (mischief night) teenagers throw eggs and flour and generally create havoc.

We don't celebrate Halloween as "the devil's holiday" at ALL!! We are Christians and don't celebrate the dead or the devil. We just let the kids dress up in a costume that isn't scary and get candy. That's it. Nothing more, nothing less.

That's too bad. It's horrible how a few people can ruin what would otherwise be a fun night for all! Thankfully, Halloween doesn't get like that where we live. There are still a fair amount of little ones dressed up and running the streets begging for candy.

Also, a local nursing home lets the kids go trick or treat the residents. All the residents sit in the hallway outside their room door and the kids parade past in costume and say "trick or treat" and the older folks drop candy into their buckets. It's great fun for everyone. The kids love getting so much candy, the parents like it because they know it's safe and the older folks love being actively involved and seeing the kids in their costumes!

What a GREAT idea!!! I know from experience that older folks just LOVE when kids come around while they're in a nursing home!! It brings a smile to their face and sometimes the only joy they feel for a while. I will have to suggest this to our local nursing home. It seems like a win-win situation for all!!

Thanks for sharing!

I'm with you Officepro, I do not celebrate Halloween as the Devil's holiday. I am a Christian as well. In NO way do I or any of my family and friends celebrate the Devil EVER! I do not believe that that is what Halloween is. It is what you make it, like all holidays!

things are pretty safe and in control around here. No body acts like a fool...everyone is out for good clean fun....I mean new england is the home of halloween!!!!!!

All my friends (a group of probobly about ten) will chose a neighborhood, (out of the ten, we live in three different neighboorhoods), and whoever lives in that neighborhood, their parents will take us, walking a couple of yards behind b/c we are indeed teens and still enjoy being a kid, but don't really have the need to be seen with our parents (lol, we all luv them to death though.) I've never seen anyone egg a house, although a couple of mornings, we've seen teepee, but that's not horrible. (I've never done it, It's comepletely disrespectful even if you absoulutly despise whoever's house it is.)

Halloween is not about "The Devil" its about scary fun, for me its about paranormal activity which i do believe in. I would not celebrate Halloween if it was about the devil eww no .
I think its great for children to dress up, carve a cute pumpkin and eat candy! xxx
