So...are you guys ready for the big day? Have you started preparing yet? Which dish are you most looking forward to?

I am looking forward to the turkey most of all! My dad always gets an Amish turkey and they are amazing (plus he's a great cook).

I think I am going to make my pumpkin pies tomorrow or Wednesday then I will just have to do the mashed potatoes and scalloped corn on Thursday. :D We have a pretty big family dinner so my aunt, cousin, sister, and dad are all taking care of the rest. I can't wait! We pretty much only eat these Thanksgiving-ish foods this time of year so I am totally ready for it!

I'm leery about one relative I'll be seeing again this Thanksgiving, the kind who asks nosy, none-of-your-business questions. All it takes is one of those to ruin a good day.

No, I have decided that I am not making Thanksgiving dinner. My mom is in the hospital and may not be home for Thanksgiving, so I don't want to sit around eating turkey and goodies while she is eating hospital food. We might celebrate after she gets out or I will make the turkey for Christmas.

Sorry to hear about your Mom, Courtney. I'm sure a little prayer of thanksgiving will get her home quickly and pick up everyone's spirits. (((((hugs))))

I am doing my baking on Wednesday. We have been busy since last Saturday getting the house organized because our daughter and her family moved in with us.

I'm almost ready! I'm on pumpkin pie duty for my husband's family (about 20) and have to go get a couple more ingredients today. I'll make the pies Thursday morning. And for Thanksgiving with my mom's side of them family (about 40 people) on Saturday I'm bringing the mashed potatoes .. but I won't get the potatoes till Friday morning then cook em up on Sat!

I am very ready! I have cookie dough in the fridge chilling to make turkey shaped sugar cookies--AND I just saw my husband stick his hands in it and take a HUGE chunk of the dough! I have no idea how long he has been doing that for! LOL

My cousin comes in from Virginia tonight!cheesy

I'm ready! Well, food wise anyway. I still have to clean the house but, I'll do that tomorrow! I went shopping today and got all of my groceries needed and I'll get my turkey from work tonight when I go in. They always give us a free turkey. I can't wait to eat turkey and mashed potatoes with gravy. I'm also going to make Cheesy potatoes as well so I can't wait for that!

wow...You get a turkey from Your working place? that´s a great thing from them

We still have to cook the food (we're actually prepared this year, with a list and everything! lol) but other than that, we've got all the ingredients. Well, that is, until my mom realizes she forgot to put something on the list, so on Thanksgiving, she realizes she doesn't have, i.e. whipping cream, she sends either my dad or brother in law out to the store. But that's one of those things you can't plan for! (well, since i just told you it's gonna happen, one could conclude that you could plan for it, when in reality you can't... pretty sure i made no sense there.)

Yup,We are ready! I got it from Stop & Shop our grocery store here.I really hope it's good!

I love reading about the preparations. (IMomoftwo - I have had their Thanksgving dinner and they were luscious!) It is so much fun to read about all the different ways of getting ready, from all over the country!

We are bringing pecan pie, cherry pie, a big tub of ice cream, and the vegetarian "turkey and gravy". Oh - and lots of wine. Wine seems to be very soothing to our extended family. We always have lots of it at holidays!

Yup! I've been ready since June! Thursday with my family, Friday with my wife's... break out the fat pants, honey... I'm goin' in..! cheesy

Man, I wish I could be there with you. I have this special one eyebrow lift I can do when I ask my students: "And you need to to know this because...?" Maybe it's just a "mother" thing"!

:merry:

I forgot to buy onions...now I have to go back out.

Wow!! Onions are one-third of the Italian Holy Trinity of cooking!!! My husband is part Italian, and I am Southern; so our Thanksgiving is an eclectic hodge-podge!

SparkleNana,
I think you need an OLD lady school teacher guest for the wine!!! I cook with wine, and sometimes I even use it in the food!!!

That's right, we gotta have the onions!
