Hi I am new here. I am from central Georgia and looking for a way to make my Christmas more traditional for my family. We have two children one that is 19 and one 6. My husband travels a lot. I work outside of the home and also look after our small farm which we raise 20+ goats , 1 dog and 1 lonely duck. We also have a few rental properties that I hate with a passion. I grew up in the country w/ 4 sibling. We always had real Christmas trees that we cut down. We never had much but we enjoyed it. I am tired of the commericial Christmas' of today I want the old fashioned Christmas of the past so I am here to find that to give my family. I know my other family memebers will think I am crazy but I don't care. I will be giving homemade cookie mixes and will be making wreaths from trees from my own land. I want to do this from my heart not a store. I am here to learn. Show me they way. :wiggy:

Georgiamom - welcome! I read your nice post about the old-fashioned Christmas. And I thought -- well, the world-wide economic meltdown is going to help ALL of us focus on being less materialistic and more concerned with old fashioned values!

I think we are going to be much more concerned that our neighbors be safe and have enough to eat --- and much less concerned about who is driving the newer car.

I hope you have a lot of fun here with us!

Welcome and I hope you love it here. It is full of really nice people.

Welcome and I hope Christmas 2008 is everything that you want it to be.

Dear Georgiamom,
Sounds like you are the inspiration to all of us! There is nothing better than the fragrance of homemade wreaths. Evergreen scent is good for cheering people up which is important when folks are shut in due to the cold weather! Not to mention a tree in front of a window is good insulation when the wind is blowing hard outside! I am in Florida now but I have vivid Colorado winter memories! Stringing popcorn and cranberries is good aromatherapy too, eh? I still have a paper chain my son made for the tree 25 years ago!! I love how much time and work he put into it. And the homemade Christmas cards and ornaments the kids both made in kindergarten with Elmer's glue and glitter. The ornaments were cut out mittens with the kids' name on them. Simple and pretty with the Christmas tree lights reflecting on them. My card said "I love you, Mom" in glitter on green paper. I framed it and have had it on the wall all these years. It doesn't get better than that for gifts!! That was from my youngest son who is 28 now and it surely went by quickly!! We have had the years when we had a little more money in the bank, but the memories from those that we didn't are just as precious, because of the love, which is exactly what you are saying too. Thanks for sharing! Looking forward to hearing about your Christmas adventures! Gran Maureen
