Sandy and I are in California tending to some unexpected business for my mother-in-law.

My mother-in-law is on the Operation Christmas Cheer list, I added her a few years ago when Sandy's Dad passed. She is now 84, she lives alone and she's doing wonderfully, only suffering from some vision issues due to macular degeneration and a few minor mobility concerns. She is a big lover of Christmas and has managed to decorate her home festively.

When we arrived last night one of the first things she showed me were the three cards that have arrived from the Operation Christmas Cheer list, noting with a big smile what these cards add to her home and decorations. She straight up told me they provide the "life" of Christmas to her season.

She said that when family comes to visit she gets asked, "Mom, who is sending you these cards?" And she answers, "My friends. No man is a failure who has friends". And they always get confused by that (although I trust you get the reference) because they see the cards and do not recognize any of the names. They'll ask, "How do you know so-and-so?" and she'll say, "I don't. But Clarence brings them to me". They STILL don't get the reference.

I love my mother-in-law. She is a dear woman and she means the world to me. She gets it. Her gratitude for these cards is entirely sincere. She gives them a place pf prominence. And she explains that they teach her this world is still filled with good people.

Thank you for sending her cards. It's no small thing.
