Dang Near Santa Himself
MMC Lifer
We do not have farms here where you can go to, too harvest pumpkins, buy homemade jams, and jellies, and such like those shown on the show Little People, Big World. I wish we did, but I like hearing stories about pumpkin picking, and of the places that others go to too do these sorts of things, and of what is being sold.

Anyone care to share your experience?

We took our kids last weekend. They have quite a few to choose from here... but its so large that it get a bit too crowded for me. It is nice, as you can get all different kinds of pumpkins, gourds, baked goods ect ect. I just wish it wasnt so crowded. =)

We have a couple of them around here. They have corn mazes and hay rides out to the fields to pick your pumpkins. The one has a big bounce house and a inflatable slide for the kids. The other one has a haunted house. They both sell other produce at stands and have a craft section where people can rent booths to sell there crafts. I haven't been to one in a couple of years because there is always a older man at the farmers market here in town that brings a truck load of pumpkins the first two weeks of october and sells them for a dollar. So I usually get a couple from him because the pumpkin patch charges a dollar a pound for there pumpkins.

We have a ton here in Pennsylvania... we were planning to take our son tomorrow but this cold rain has forced us to change plans. We will take him to the same place I went growing up.. I loved picking out a pumpkin, riding the hayride, going through the corn maze... so much fun!

Sounds like all the pumpkin patches are fun. I didn't know that you could get gourds as well.

Judesmama, hope the weather cooperates with you, and you can have a fun time tomorrow.

Thank you everyone for sharing your experiences.

We have a few around here but, I rarely go to them. I don't have anyone to go with first of all with no kids I don't really buy pumpkins. I get no trick or treaters or else I'd probably carve a pumpkin to light up. I will go once in a while though just for the heck of it but, I haven't been to one in a couple of years. We have a little place called the Spring House and I stop in there every time I happen to go past it. It's out of the way though so it's not often but I love going there. It's out in the country and they have a pumpkin patch, a maze, etc. And they have a little store with homemade desserts, a deli, ice cream and a country craft store as well. It's just a little tiny place but, when I was a kid I used to live right up the road from there and going there was a regular weekend thing. My dad used to take me with him when he'd make the rounds to get lunchmeat or cheese and since there were no big stores close to us that's where we'd go. Of course at that time they didn't have the country store or the pumpkin patch but, I loved going there. Sad thing is that it's next to the Humane Society and I just can't bear to look over there at all of the little doggies that need homes. I cry every time I look over there.

We have one nearby and I have never been but I want to visit one! I hope next weekend we can plan to go.

I live in an area with lots of big pumpkin patches with all sorts of things to do. I actually prefer the simpler ones. I don't care for the ones with ponies, bounce houses etc. They get very crowded and seem too commercial. I like hayrides and cornmazes because they seem natural to have at a pumpkin patch.

Wow ponies at a pumpkin patch, that sounds like fun, and one that I would have to end up going to so that my kids could ride the ponies.

Yesterday at one of our stores, I had seen pumpkins being sold for $8.00 each. :-?

We went 2 weekends ago to a pumpkin patch. They were each different prices depending how big. The ones we bought were 3 bucks each. I was disapointed that I didnt see the great pumpkin..but wait..I forgot. He only comes on Halloween night. LOL Good Grief!
