The group’s last Christmas album — That’s Christmas to Me — was released just two years ago to rave reviews. That made it one of the most significant new Christmas albums in decades, probably the most important since Mariah Carey’s hit album of 1994.
Since that time Pentatonix has kept up a torrid cycle of production, performance and video sharing. Their rapid rise to fame and now fortune followed a win on The Sing Off ins 2011. Pentatonix, as suggested by vocalist Scott Hoying, is named after the pentatonic scale, a musical scale or mode with five notes per octave, representing the five members of the group.
