The sad thing to me was that a penalty had to be imposed even though nothing was done with malice---according to the jockey, Maximum Security drifted out because he was spooked by the crowd noise while coming around the final turn. It was a dangerous situation, though, as horses got close enough to potentially get their legs tangled and go down. It was also sad that the owners, jockey, and trainer of the declared winner Country House had to endure the crowd booing while they were congratulated and given the trophy. What an awkward mix-up it all became. And now the Preakness coming along in just two weeks ...

Funny thing, though. We watched "Come On, George!" (a 1939 movie starring George Formby, about a racehorse) after the Derby, and at one point a character was raving about "I'll have him disqualified! I'm going to raise an objection!" Then we watched "Murder at the Baskervilles" (a 1930s Sherlock Holmes mystery involving racehorses and murder), and most of it took place at---wait for it---a Country House. So ripples of the Derby decision lapped at our entertainment all evening!

And then there's the point that Country House was a long shot and was second in place so I hope the crowd accepts him and the owner gladly at the Preakness. If he places in the top 3 at the Preakness, everything else will soon be forgotten.

Good afternoon everyone. Michelle just got back from an awesome weekend at Gulf Shores, AL. We celebrated 27 years of marriage this past Thursday. Now we're catching up on some recorded college softball games. Have a great evening!

Happy Anniversary - hope you celebrate many more together.

One thing that helped my husband and I along our journey of love was not worrying about who was right at the expense of the other person's feelings. We never had a fight or a serious argument and just agreed to disagree on a few things. We also celebrated each other's joys and offered comfort when it mattered.

Good morning MMC ~
We’re getting some sunshine back today with a high of 66 degrees. I’ll definitely get out there and go for a couple of walks with Rocky. It will be a typical day of errands and chores for me. I’m going to take a ride to the pet store and I have to stop at Hallmark for cards. I’m making chicken soup for dinner. That’s about it. I hope everyone has a nice day and a great week ahead!!!
xx

Good morning all! It’s going to be a lovely day here - not weather wise, but for our family. DS makes his First Holy Communion at mass today. 20 or so of our family and our best friends are coming and then we are having a get together afterwards. We actually got together with this set of friends last night, so we moved the family night (food and board games) to tonight, so it will be a great day all around. I can’t wait to see my boy all dressed up in his suit!

Hope you all have a great day!
Congrats to your son!!

Good Morning, Valiant Voyagers!

Well, our juourney has a ways to go yet, but our next port-of-call is getting mighty close, now. After the numbers are presented, we will investigate further.

Days to the Season: 191
Days to Christmas Day: 233

The port of call?
Well, it's the HALF-WAY Milestone marker to the Christmas Season and, as of today, we are SINGLE DIGITS away from it.
9 days.
Wowzers!

As predicted, it was about 10 degrees cooler yesterday than Saturday and we had some afternoon rain. Nothing extensive, and there were no severe weather warnings out.
Today will see us warm right back up again to the upper 70's, with low to mid 80's predicted for the balance of the work week. Only about a 20 percent chance of rain shows on through to the weekend.
We begin this brand new week with a thermometer reading of 61 degrees, here.

Have a Marvelous Monday, Everybody!

Merry Monday!
I didn't get a chance to log on this weekend, we had softball on Saturday and Sunday was a wash out...I think it literally rained all day. Typical work day for me and I hope we see some sun today. Hope you all have a great day!!

Good Monday morning, Christmas friends!

It was a rainy Friday, but we went to Jacob's choral concert, and it was awesome! Jacob introduced Elizabeth to the heads of the music department (since she'll be there in the fall), and really talked her up to them. Later, we took Elizabeth and her boyfriend to dinner.

Saturday was kind of lazy for me. I got in the pool and did some more vacuuming. That evening, we went to the nearby state park where Nancy's sister had rented a cabin. It was our nephew's birthday, and this was a present for him. We grilled burgers and had a good time.

Yesterday, our church honored the high school seniors (including Elizabeth) with a study bible, then we went to lunch at mom's. Later, Elizabeth's chorus had an encore performance. She's been so active in that group, they were all crying when it was over. Nancy, Lulu and I ended the evening with a ride on the golf cart.

I don't know what Nancy has in mind for me to do today, but I expect my daily mid-morning text with the list. ;)

I hope y'all have a great day! :D

One thing I love about May (and going forward) is these next few months you'll start to see "signs" of the upcoming Autumn Season. Today I saw my first one. Our local arena that hosts all various events had a sign that said "October 26th Fall Festival". Just brought a big smile to my face! If October 26th is close enough for them to acknowledge now (which is already halfway through the Bers) imagine how close we really are to September 1 already?
Our church is discussing the upcoming fall festival. So excited!

Good afternoon .. we went to see the new Avengers movie this morning. What an awesome movie. Getting ready to put a turkey breast into the oven, got yams boiling. Weather isn't the greatest .. damp and chilly but a perfect day to have the oven going :) Last night DH and I went shopping looking for a metal basket for the kids bathroom .. well we scored the basket plus a birthday gift and several christmas gifts for our DS. Good thing Hobby Lobby and the Christmas Tree Shoppe isn't closer to us otherwise I would really be broke LOL Hope everyone has a great day.

Good morning! Happy Nurses and Teachers Week to any nurses or teachers here on the site or to any family members that you my have! Semi-busy day ahead. I have a dentist appointment this morning at 1130. I had a filling done a little over a month or so ago and since then I have been sensitive to almost everything and depending on what I try to chew, it get to be pretty painful. I called about it and they said hopefully it is an easy fix, that I was too numb when they fixed my tooth, that hopefully it's not that he didn't get my whole cavity and that now it's worse. I'm hoping that it's the first one! After that, DH has a doctor's appointment.

Other than that, we have our niece all day, so she'll be tagging along with us and DD has baton this evening at 5:45, but it's just her individual lesson, so it's just 30 minutes.

Hope you all have a great day!!

Thank you!

I know what you mean - it was the same way for me in round 1! I told DH, the Canes for sure were the underdogs in all this and are hungry and want the cup bad. I can see them winning and honestly, I hope they do. I always hope for a Metro team to do so. Good luck to them, but as you said, I can't wait until October as well! As that being said, DH and I love baseball as well, but the Pirates just are terrible! LOL. Bring on Penn State football!
