DAYS TO HALLOWEEN : 281
DAYS TO OCTOBER 1ST: 251
DAYS TO HALFOWEEN: 97
DAYS TO JOL DAY #1: 8

Good Morning and Happy Saturday! Friends, TOMORROW, we will reach the 250 DAYS TO OCTOBER milestone! Just amazing. This whole weekend will be amazing. Tomorrow is a milestone day, as well as being Rudolph Day Eve. Then we've got Rudolph Day #1 on Monday, Tom Turkey Day on Thursday, and then Jack O Lantern Day next Sunday! The Bers in reverse, but I won't complain!

And since we are just about a week out now from JOL Day, I am going to plug something else that for whatever reason I did not include during the original announcement after New Year's regarding JOL day.

Let's talk about SOUP WEEK. Now I realize that SOUP WEEK might not have the slightest thing to do with Halloween, but in this family, hearty soups are a staple of Fall and early Winter. So we decided a little while back that SOUP WEEK would lead us into Jack O Lantern Day, and the end of the month. You heard me right, we are going to eat home-made soup every night this week beginning on Monday through Sunday. That sounds crazy but I think it is awesome. Brave souls out there can join me, you don't have to do a whole week if you don't want to, throw a soup on here or there before the 31st, or heck, do it on the 31st!

We will recap again next week, probably on Monday, but here is what I have going on for Jack O Lantern Day on Sunday:

SOUP WEEK - January 25th - 31st
"DARK ARTS SUNDAY", JANUARY 31st:
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets

Apple Cider for refreshment
Pumpkin Candle / Wax Warmer to set the mood
Small Halloween Tree & Electric Jack O Lantern
Halloween Itunes Playlist

Have a great Saturday folks! Trash duty calls!
Soup Week, huh? I was planning on having soup for lunch on Monday anyway, so even though I probably won't eat it every day, count me in for at least half the week. If we could count gumbo then maybe I'd make it the entire week. My wife makes a killer gumbo.

I love your plans to celebrate Jack O Lantern Day! Thank you for sharing, I needed the reminder to make sure I have my own celebration planned and to make sure I have all of the ingredients for my Pumpkin Muffins! Are you going to spread the Harry Potter films out over multiple Jack O Lantern days?
I haven't decided officially, but I feel pretty strongly that they are going to make an appearance on each month that has a Jack O Lantern Day. Those movies just always get me in the October spirit. I think there is only one month that has Sunday fall on a 31st, so if I continue "Dark Arts Sundays" in observance of JOL Day, they would fall on the Sunday closest to the 31st. For example, in March, I would have to do them on the 28th. This way I get to have a mixture of October / Horror / Spooky films to sort of "simulate" what we are used to with the TV lineup throughout September / October. I am planning mini-marathons of traditional October films, on the 31st's (Friday the 13th, Michael, The Ring, etc...). But, there is *just* enough HP films that I can spread them out over each JOL Day month, which is cool!

I wanted to start, er, end January with a bang, and to me, Harry Potter was the perfect way to sort of "tap into" that magical October spirit..

Sounds like a great plan and I think it would be a great way to enjoy all 8 movies! I like how you are moving some of the celebrations to the closest Sunday, I find it hard to properly enjoy Rudolph Eve and Day mid-week!

The Sunday movies will be sort of like an "additional feature'. But that's how I can continue "Dark Arts Sundays". Then the 31sts can still get the normal JOL Day Routine, I can do at least two Halloween movies in a mini-marathon after work, so no worries there.

Good Morning! Once again, we have reached a milestone day. Doesn't seem possible, does it? Today is a good one, too.

Now we are exactly one week out from JOL Day #1. It will be a great celebration to hopefully be enjoyed by all. That is also the day that we reach the ONE QUARTER point to Halloween!

Have a great Sunday, Folks!

Good Morning Halloween Friends! Our counts march ever forward. I was just remarking in the Rudolph Day thread that all of our counts look amazing, with only Thanksgiving and Christmas still far off, holding in the 300's for now. But Thanksgiving will hit the magic milestone in just a few more days, I know @Edge612 will be happy when it does, as will most of us who love the BERS.

Under a week now until Jack O Lantern Day. Do you see that when we arrive at Jack O Lantern Day, we will then be under 90 days until Halfoween? Even more reasons for me to look forward to Spring, which as of today is just a mere 54 days away. Folks, I'm about 35-40 days away from starting major yard cleanup and chores, like thatching, fertilizing, etc., being ready for mowing season which should begin for us in roughly 70 days, as we have usually mowed for the first time by Easter each year.

All of those things make me happy! I hope you guys have a great Monday!

Happy Monday, fellow spooks! It might be the beginning of the week, but no Monday blahs here: It's Rudolph Day! And frankly, we're hitting so many milestones across all of our holiday threads that it's difficult for me to feel bummed out right now!

I am excited for JoL Day and Dark Arts Sunday (and Soup Week)! I have a Sicilian chicken noodle queued up for today's lunch, and tomorrow I'll have a beef stew (not exactly soup, but close enough). I don't know how far I will participate after that, but maybe if I can queue up another couple of soups I'll make it to Thursday.

It's gonna be a great week! And if anyone wants to volunteer to post the Seasonal Candy of the Week tomorrow, speak now or forever hold your peace!

Have a spooky Monday!

Good Morning and Happy Tuesday! The ice and snow storm is over now, but we still have a few more cold days before February gets here and we begin the new month in the 40's for about a week. Jack O Lantern Day will be here soon! I can't wait. I split up some firewood last weekend so that we could have our "October Fire" at some point during Sunday. Hope everyone has a great Tuesday!

Only 5 more days!!!

It's time for the Seasonal Candy of the Week!

This week's candy is a spin on something we're all familiar with during this time of year: conversation hearts. Does anyone have a bowl of these lying around? No? Me either. I'm not a big fan. They taste like chalk to me. However, Brachs has really taken a page from the "Charlie Brown Valentine" playbook and has released "Wisecracks."

Wisecracks are like the anti-conversation hearts, with lots of sad faces, thumbs down, and messages that clearly let someone know when they're staying firmly in the friend zone. Overall, they seem kind of mean-spirited, but do they taste any better than normal conversation hearts? I haven't sampled them, but the answer is probably "no." No, they do not.

Have a happy Tuesday, fellow spooks!

Was thinking about the various costumes I had as a kid. Sure wish I still had some of the plastic masks and suits. One thing that I really remember were these cardboard and glitter witches hats. I believe I had both. Brings back such great memories. What were some of your favorite costumes as a kid?

Did anyone try these? My sister had sent me a pic and I thought for sure it was some kind of joke. But I looked it up and Brachs really did make these. I never did see any in the stores.
We spoke about those last year in @Edge612 's Thanksgiving thread. I think the consensus was that we were willing to try, but i don't think we expected much in the way of taste, lol.

Morning Halloween Fans! Anyone read anything else about the new Halloween movie coming out in October? I keep seeing articles about it. Very interesting stuff. Have a great day!

I will have to read them myself, but I hope there are no further delays, and worst case scenaio, I hope the decision is made to release it to direct-streaming, if that HAS to be the case other than face further delays.

My personal attitude towards movie theaters have been negative for quite a while now, as they were slowly but surely pricing themselves out of the range I felt a typical family could afford. My father in law took us all out to see Star Wars a few years ago, and he spent well over $100.00 just in tickets. That's ridiculous.

These days, i would much rather watch a movie from the comfort of my own home. I think when this is all said and done, and COVID is winding down this fall, I think most people will have the same idea, which I think could leave the future of the theater industry uncertain.

If they ever release just the cranberry sauce ones, buy them. The rest are definitely a no.
