Good morning all!

I hope everyone had a wonderful Friday the 13th!

I did not think to do it yesterday, but I wish I would have watched a couple episodes of the old Friday the 13th TV show. I forgot that I got the whole show for Christmas until I saw it this morning. Does anyone else remember the show. It was so good! I also used to watch the show Freddy's Nightmares. I wish I could find it on dvd.

I remember the Friday the 13th TV show because it was covered a lot on a friend's blog that I follow a lot, called "Dinosaur Dracula"!

Good Morning Halloween Friends! Happy Sunday to you! We are just shy of the half-way point in the month and it feels like, at least to me, January has really slowed down. I felt like we were sort of speeding along around the week of New Year's, but now we have slowed some.

I want to take a couple of minutes today and maybe try to narrow down my movie selection for my first Jack O Lantern Day, coming up now in just shy of TWO WEEKS. Watching Halloween (1978) is always how I start off our run of JOL Days, so that's not going to change. But where last year I would always alternate between Michael and Jason, I'm not sure if I am going to continue the same routine. I think I'd rather have a few of the other "standard" Halloween-season movie as the double header. I was actually thinking just yesterday how for whatever reason, Jason seems so much better suited to play in heavy rotation along with Michael during "Spooky Spring", which is now hurtling towards us at under 80 days away.

Folks, we will hit the 100 Days to Halfoween THIS WEEK - On Friday, to be precise. What a Friday it will be. Being only 100 days out from Halfway to Halloween doesn't even seem like it should be possible in late January, but yet, here we will be.

Have a great day, friends!

I did a lot of thinking about Halloween yesterday. This is my weekend to just relax and not do much of anything, so the wheels in my head started turning, and something finally clicked. It has to do with my JOL Day celebrations this year and my overall "theme" for Halloween 2023. I'm not ready to spill the details just yet; I've still got some more planning to do. But I will share what I'm thinking prior to our first JOL Day. I'm so excited!

Good Morning Halloween Friends! A full new week of January awaits us now. We are past the halfway point in the month thank goodness. January really felt like it was getting slow last week. I wonder if it will continue the slowness this week, or will it start to feel like it is moving again? We have a milestone to look forward to on Friday, maybe it will help. And what we have coming up is a special milestone. 100 DAYS TO HALFOWEEN will be here in just four days. Our next milestone after that will be next Tuesday, when we can celebrate reaching 250 Days to October.

Yesterday all of my remaining Christmas Decorations came down and were put away. The outside ones too. It was kind of a "sad" duty, but everything has to end so that we can start over and have our "new" season to look forward to. Not counting any decorations that I put out for Halfway to Christmas or "Spooky Spring", the next "real" time I see outside lights of any kind will be late September, when I start getting ready to put up Halloween lights!

Have a great Monday, friends!

Another Halloween related deal alert.... Steam has "Friday the 13th: Killer Puzzle" and all the DLC for free for a limited time. I've never played it, but it gets very good reviews.

Quick edit....not "All DLC" is free .. just main game and episodes 2-8. Still a great deal!

Grab this while you can! They are about to lose the licensing so the game is being discontinued.

Morning Halloween Fans! Hope your week got off to an ok start. My thought for this Tuesday for Halloween is how they changed the week we turn the clocks years ago (to after Halloween) so it's lighter out for kids to trick or treat. Was it really for that reason? I heard it was. Have a great day!

Good Morning Halloween Friends! Today we are officially only TWO WEEKS out from the first Jack O Lantern Day of 2023, three days from 100 Days to Halfoween, and just one short week away from reaching the 250 Days to October milestone!

I'll be back later this evening to share a Jack O Lantern Day inspired post, since we are only two weeks out now, because I don't want to cram too much into one posting, and I have enjoyed since around Christmas, coming back to MMC of an evening / at night.

My Tuesday Halloween thought is really a simple one. Halloween Lights. I didn't get into Halloween lights until a few years ago. I think the first year that I had lights was 2021. I started off small, with just a few bushes lit up, and I gradually grew my decorations from there. Once upon a time I would only set out a few orange plastic Jack O Lantern buckets, and that was it. Halloween lights make me happy. I mentioned yesterday that the very next time that I see any lights outside of any kind (not counting anything I may do for Spooky Spring, or Halfway to Christmas) will be around 257 days when the Halloween lights come back out. So in a way, Halloween lights will "light" the way back to Holiday Season 23', very similar to how my Christmas Tree is lighting the way through the longest, darkest part of January.

Have a great day, friends! See you on here later today!

The first of five JOL Days is in just 2 weeks!

My Tuesday Halloween thought:

There are a lot of things that I'd consider "Halloween-adjacent." For example, the movie Signs, which I watch every year, is most definitely not a Halloween movie, but it is supposed to frighten you and is very suspenseful.

So, in considering other Halloween-adjacent things, where does Phantom of the Opera stand? It's not particularly a scary movie at all, but it is about a "creature," who turns out to be a disfigured man, who terrorizes Paris, and there are some quasi-supernatural elements involved (Lot 666, the Phantom being a magician, etc.). And there's no doubt that the overture is haunting, almost like something you'd hear in a vintage monster movie.

I think it checks enough boxes to be considered Halloween-adjacent. I might give it a watch during a JOL Day this year.

I really like the movie “signs”. You mention it often, and for good reason! I think it’s a great movie. Thinking back, I don’t think I have ever saw it played anywhere as part of Halloween season movies. I think for this reason it HAS to be added to my Spooky Spring / Halloween movie “playlist” from this point forward!

My Halloween thought: Our legislature starts its annual session today and one lawmaker has introduced a resolution to make the last Friday of October the official Halloween celebration for trick or treating. He feels like it is better for families and for educators . Although there may be some advantages to this, when I read it, I automatically said, "Oh, no" outloud.

I love Signs. It has a very Hitchcock-esque vibe to it. The suspense is compounded by the fact that you don't even see the threat until the very final act (unfortunately, the CGI for the aliens did not age well). It also has a fantastic soundtrack. I saw it in theaters when it first premiered, and it made a huge impression on me. Sadly, Shymalan's other movies following this one have not.

Hmmm, this has some implications. I can't really imagine October 31st without Halloween. If that went into effect this year, it means trick or treating would fall on October 27th, leaving a whole four days of...emptiness?...before November. It would be a very strange adjustment.

I could see localities being able to “observe” Halloween on a different day. We have had to do it on occasion because of bad weather / snow, etc….

but it doesn’t sound like the “official” recognition of Halloween would change.
