Today I am simply thankful for the Bers. For such a combination of weather, special occasions, holidays, celebrations, and even music…all coming together in such a way during the year. There’s simply no other time of year like the Ber months.

Happy Final Friday Of August! Today folks we move along and see that we have 90 days remaining until Thanksgiving, 65 days left until November and 4 days to go until The Bers. We move along in our Summer Sweatfest with the final weekend of it coming up and our next milestone being the amazing Arrival of The Bers. It’s Friday folks so time for our Fun Fact Friday below!
The first Turkey Trot took place in 1896.
Thanks to the popularity of the turkey trot, in 2015, Thanksgiving surpassed July 4th as the most popular day of the year to run a race, Runner’s World reports. But this tradition was a long time in the making. Believe it or not, as Runner’s World shares, the first-ever turkey trot occurred in 1896 in Buffalo, New York. Hosted by the local YMCA, the 8K cross-country race on Thanksgiving Day attracted just six runners, only four of whom crossed the finish line.
This one I would not have guessed. I thought turkey trots were something more modern (maybe like 1990s). But I guess they are going back a long time. No truth to the rumor that I ran in that one in 1896. Have a great Final Friday Of August!

The turkey trot is one of my annual traditions I do! I don't train seriously for it, since it's only a little over 3 miles, but one of my favorite memories is from 2022 when I ran the turkey trot and then came back about halfway to meet up with Holly, who was walking it, only a few weeks after having Abigale! It was a great time. I have no idea yet this year if we both are going to do it again, but I'm for sure running it.
Last year was the first year Abigale did the "tot trot", and she had a blast. She ran a little less than a quarter of a lap on the track, and as soon as she got done last year, she told me she wanted to go again. So this year, when she runs with the 4-5 year olds, I think she will end up running about half of the track!

Happy Final Weekend Of August! Today folks we move along and see that we have 89 days remaining until Thanksgiving, 64 days left until November and 3 days to go until The Bers. We move along in our Summer Sweatfest with our next milestone arriving on Tuesday as The Bers arrives. I can’t believe it but I also can because it’s been a very long 8-month journey to get here my friends. It’s Saturday folks so time for the 1st half of our Quiet Weekend Period. And here we are with not really a quiet weekend for me. Pretty busy between house chores, visiting a friend, and the Sunday Group heading to the city. Busy is good though and next weekend of course, many of us will have a long 3-day weekend to get some extra time to slow things down a bit. The best to you my turkey friends as we move along into a new day here on Saturday. Check out the Hang Out today as #3 on our list is Thanksgiving but, in our hearts, it may be #1 on our list. But I have a good idea at least of what will be 1 of the top 2 (not sure about the other). I’ve purposely distanced myself from the rankings so I can follow along with everyone else. It’s been a heck of a summer and The Bers, Autumn and the Holiday Season should only be even better. Have a great Final Weekend Of August!

We move along in our Summer Sweatfest with our next milestone arriving on Tuesday as The Bers arrives. I can’t believe it but I also can because it’s been a very long 8-month journey to get here my friends. It’s Saturday folks so time for the 1st half of our Quiet Weekend Period. And here we are with not really a quiet weekend for me. Pretty busy between house chores, visiting a friend, and the Sunday Group heading to the city. Thanksgiving Day could be my #1, possibly, in the Countdown. I’ll have to see what the next two are. I know what at least one of them is, simply because we haven’t mentioned it yet, but I’ve forgotten what the remaining one was.

We talked about Thanksgiving a little bit this morning, it was wonderful! It feels good to know that it's so "close". Thinking about something that's three months away is a lot different than thinking about it when it's still a year away, 6 months, etc...

Happy Next To Last Day Of August! Today folks we move along and see that we have 88 days remaining until Thanksgiving, 63 days left until November and 2 days to go until The Bers. We move along in our Summer Sweatfest with only 2 days left of it with our next milestone set to arrive when it ends and our “Awesome Autumn” begins. That will happen on Tuesday when September and The Bers arrive. I can’t believe I am saying that, but I must admit it’s been a long 8-month journey, so it feels like it is time for that. Turkey friends it’s Sunday so it’s time for the 2nd half of our Quiet Weekend Period. And The Sunday Group is heading for a city trip with our usual bakery, the balloon museum and dinner. We always do a triple combination with that middle thing being the activity we switch in and out depending on what we want to do and find to do. The best to you turkey friends on this Sunday. I hope you all are enjoying the bulk of your weekend so far and that things continue to get better as we move along. It’s the ultimate Milestone Day today as we have reached the month of September and The Bers have begun. What an exciting moment and today is here for all of us fans of The Bers. Our next milestone will be when the Final Fifty till November happens in 11 days. So many amazing times ahead in The Bers and today is just the 1st chance to really make the most of it. It’s Tuesday folks so time for our Picture Day. And you know what that means. It’s time for you to share your pictures of Autumn and Thanksgiving here on the 1st day of the month of September and the beginning of The Bers. It doesn’t get any fresher than today folks if you are a Bers fan.
