Good morning, everyone!!
To say that yesterday was a fantastic day would be an understatement! My mom and her husband and as well as my dad arrived at my apartment about 10 minutes apart from each other. It was great to see both of them again! Surprisingly, my dad came bearing gifts as he had not yet given me my birthday present. That made me quite happy!! My dad and mom still talk and get along. My dad and mom's husband are also quite friendly with each other, so it was not as awkward as one may assume. We waited for Kim to return from work and then all went out for supper together. It was nice!!
We watched the first period of the Stanley Cup Finals game at the bar and then ran home quickly to catch the rest. We only missed about five minutes of the second period. It worked out quite well. My mom has been a diehard Blackhawks fan since the mid-60s and has been waiting a long time for a Stanley Cup, so it was certainly memorable to share the experience of watching the game with her. She was nervous. Extremely nervous. Sometimes yelling at the TV and mumbling to herself. She has a right to do that - after all, she has been a fan for so long and she spent the better part of 16 years watching me play at the rink and 18 years watching my brother play. She knows her hockey.
It was perhaps the most anti-climatic Stanley Cup winning goal in NHL history as it seemed that only Patrick Kane and Patrick Sharp saw the puck beat Michael Leighton and then disappear into the net (and possibly through). My mom was so excited. She finally got to see her team hoist the Cup live. It's definitely a moment I will cherish. We share a common bond with our love for Christmas, but our love for sports and competitive nature may certainly rival that. Needless to say, my entire family was absolutely thrilled with seeing the Hawks win. I'm extremely lucky to have been able to share the moment with them, too, especially my mom. Great times.
I feel bad tonight as I am to have dinner with my mom's husband's cousin and uncle. My dad will not be in attendance. I feel bad because he drove all this way to see me and my graduation, but he's not coming tonight. He'll be all right. At least he is staying a couple extra days. If the weather is nice, we are going golfing on Sunday. I have not yet went since last July. It should be another frustrating and fun outing.
Well, I need to get back to work. My bosses are not yet back from their conferences, however, other workers are. Hopefully I can finish all my tasks before I leave this afternoon! Have a great Thursday, everyone!!
