Tonight is Twelfth Night ... end of the twelve days of Christmas. Boo ...

Interesting that you begin day one of the 12 days Christmas on Dec. 25th rather than the 26th. You are not the only one to do that and it is still a bit of controversy with historians as to when the Europeans celebrated the feast of the Epiphany, the 5th or 6th. Most calendars officially have Epiphany/Three Kings day (12th day) as tomorrow the 6th.

My family celebrates both days with traditions. Tonight after supper each of us will choose a piece of cake with white icing. Hidden in one piece is a bean. Whoever gets it is the king or queen of the feast tomorrow night and we have a proper paper crown to wear.

My wife fixes Jambalaya every year for Epiphany and the king/queen gets to sit at the head of the table, wear the crown and gets everything served to him/her.

Then my children get their Christmas presents from us. They get enough presents from Santa Clause on Christmas morning to keep them happy for months so my wife and I decided to let them get their presents from us on the day celebrated when the kings gave the gifts to Jesus.

If we had decorated our house fully, this would be the time that we would move the kings on our nativity decorations right up to the manger.

These are ways that our family has enjoyed the Christmas season longer than most Americans. Last night I met a friend of mine in the grocery store and he mentioned (almost jokingly) that he had seen my Christmas tree lights still turned on and wondered if I just hadn't had time to take them down. I spent about 30 seconds giving him an overview of our traditions this week and he seem surprised that a noncatholic would do anything to celebrate Epiphany.

So happy your pup, is comfy!! yes and as far as those vet bills go....... I know took my girl to the vet three times in December. She pulled something in her neck, which caused her to limp, and yelp in pain. Horrible to see!! Lasted round two weeks, shes all good now!! :)

How awful to see your pet in pain! I'm glad she is better though.!

I am very impressed that its the 5th of january and we have 49 pages in the thread, we will be into the many thousands by the time the season starts!

Does anybody have know the official count as of yet ? How ahead of the game are we?

Here's how to find out where we stand at any time:

Well, to be fair, anyone can view thread post activity.

Just click the number (below replies) when viewing from "New Posts" or by thread category. This will bring up a small window with names and post number.

Also, the white number in the upper-right-hand corner of the most recent post would indicate how many posts have been made up to that point.

I know how to make 2011 the best Christmas ever....

Well another day down and one more closer to next christmas season.:) I have a huge day ahead of me tommorrow I recently was promoted at work to E-7 pay grade which in the Air force is Master Sergeant and after 17 years its about time! so I have alot more responsibilty so I'm kind of stressed about that but I know I can handle it,just a little nervous. Hope everyone here is having a good night!

Good Evening (U.S.) everyone! I'm in the middle of recording a new Mistletoe Mix for Merry Christmas Radio. Everyone that is listed right now as on MMC is getting a shoutout in the second break that I just finished! I hope to have the show to JayIsh to start airing January Rudolph Day.

Now, who is gonna listen?

Seawaters will have to do the exact numbers, but I think we are just about ahead of a 2,000 post a month pace. 24,000? Wow. That would be cool.

Just lookin ahead, when does everyone start planning? I really need to start right now because I just haven't been as organized as I need to be in the past two years. I blame that on this site....I spend too much time here. HAHA. But it sure is fun.

Happy Wednesday and Twelfth Day of Christmas! Making my first post in the 2011 countdown to Christmas

This year, I am planning to stay active here year round as much as I can, unlike last year when I went inactive until October.

I am already thinking a lot about next Christmas, this years holidays went by so fast it is almost all a blur.

Hope everyone is doing well and look forward to celebrating Christmas all year here at MMC!
Glad to have you year round!

My lovely neighbor who's house sits directly in front of mine still has her outside lights up. I keep meaning to thank her.
Good idea! I am also thankful for those who keep their lights up as well. =)

BOO!!!!!!!!
Muhahahahaha! :D

That isn't any fun!!!!!
Looks like Undrtakr answered it for me. Lol! I had a lot of my decorations boxed away during Christmas because of no room to display them. Waaa! You are right though, it's fun to buy Christmas goodies!!!
Well. When you run out of room it isn't fun either :P heheh We had to give some decorations to friends because we are running out of room under the stairs in the basement. Plus we keep getting new stuff for gifts every year.
Just what I was about to tell Made. =)

Too bad the new health care plan does not cover pets..jeesh Just got back from the vet with my dachshund he suggested another blood test to find out what exactly she is allergic too,but get this..the blood sample has to be sent off to Yale university! at least it should be an accurate diagnosis I would think. At any rate he did give her one more shot that should relieve her symptoms in the meantime.. I just want her to be comfy and she is right now..she is already sleeping,it always wears her out when we go to the vet. About to cook dinner and watch tv a while.hope everyone is having agreat afternoon!:)
I am glad she is feeling better. The vet stresses out all animals, I think. They tend to sleep a lot when they finally get home even if they just go for a check up.
Almost another day behind us! I've got a headache, but it's nothing a few hours on the couch won't fix. *wink* cheesy
I hope you get over your headache soon!

Good evening,

Tonight at work I was behind the 8 ball all night, just tried to play catch up all night long. Day off tomorrow, Dr's appt in the AM. and then a ton of errands.
Just relaxing now, watching a documentary about the 2004 Red Sox comeback against the Yankees I still get chills watching highlights of that. I hope you all had a great day.

Have a good night!

Thanks for telling us your traditions, that is just great, we just keep all of our decorations up and on at least until the 8th every year.

Which one? We probably have it ... along with the box set of the 2004 ALCS and World Series and a DVD set of the Sox's greatest games! We're not football fans (*ducking brickbats*), so we watch DVDs of the Sox on Superbowl Sunday.

It is ESPN's 30 for 30 "4 Days In October" it is a really good one it has some of the players home movies in the locker room during the comeback, and many interviews.
