Good morning everyone... such a nice day out today..left my winter coat home this morning... Christmas has been in my thoughts a lot this week. Hubby and I have been recently discussing decorating and different recipes for the holiday season.....

Well I want to try to spend the weekend Spring cleaning the house, top to bottom. Open the windows to air out the house and declutter....

Hope everyone has a great day!
I need to get some spring cleaning done too! Just reading your post has motivated me to get started today.
I went to a booster club meeting out of town last night, trying to convince them to buy our concrete poles to light their football field. I think it went well, they gave me a gentleman's agreement to buy. I'm used to working with engineers, though, and found that I had to explain the design and construction process more thoroughly than usual. I'm not much of a speaker, and caught myself stuttering and fiddling with my pencil while a talked. A great salesman, eh? LOL!

It's going to be a beautiful weekend around here. I'm working all day tomorrow at the store, but maybe I can get some fishing in on Sunday afternoon.

Gabulldawg, you feeling better?
I bet you did just fine speaking!

I hope you get a relaxing day on Sunday.

I hope gabulldawg is doing ok. I haven't seen him on.

I had a wonderful week this past week. I felt a little crummy Monday and some on Tuesday but managed to have a nice time. The kids were on Spring Break so I had all 3 of my grandkids all week.

Monday we went to Planet Pizza, indoor amusement park with pizza, of course.

Tuesday we went to the children's museum we are members of and the park.

Yesterday I made the kids green eggs (food coloring) for St. Patrick's Day. Then had a small, last minute, birthday party for my oldest grandson who will turn 7 on Saturday. He will have his big party this weekend. Then we all went outside and they helped me plant a vegetable garden. They love getting their hands in the dirt! Then it was a big day for both the boys. We took the training wheels off the bike and they rode them just fine! They were really proud of themselves!

Today is my day off and it is much needed! I am going to clean and get some rest!

We get Easter break right after Easter. I love it that way. Are you worn out yet from all that fun?

I still can't raise my sore arm very high, so I can't do any spring cleaning. Plus it is windy and raining outside, so no open windows for us!

Good morning, Christmas friends. It is chilly, windy, and rainy here in northern California. Weird weather! I went back to the doctor yesterday, and he said to stay home from work at least until Tuesday. The only bad thing is not being able to do anything substantial because of the pain. Oh, well. I guess I can always take a nap! I hope everyone has a great day

Hope you're better soon, Seawaters!

It's 70 degrees here in Glen Burnie MD today. I'm going to go home and put my screens in, so we can enjoy the air.

We use to get Spring Break around Easter every year when I was in school and it was actually called Easter Vacation. I miss those days! I wish it was that way again.

This is my day off and I am wiped out. I thought I was going to get a lot of cleaning done but I am really tired. I did get a few things done though.

I hope you get well soon! Enjoy your time off and relax, if it's possible while your hurting. =(

It was in the mid 80's yesterday and we had to sleep with the air conditioner on last night. Going to get that high again today.

I am so far behind here, trying to catch up too. I hope everyone had a great St. Patty's Day! as we enter late March it's hard to believe it has been 3 months since the Holidays! before we know it we will be below 200 days until the season is upon us again! I am doing better with my voice and my cough and plan to go home sat. I am taking a more scening drive through Pa,and West Virginia, and western Va this time since I will have more time to travel since I will not have to be back at work until the week after next. I hope everyone has a great and safe weekend!

Still sitting in front of the news all day because of Japan, this entire situation is so scary and shows how dangerous this type of electricty winning is......I live only a few km away from one of the oldest nuclear plants in Germany...and found out on Monday that the rods almost started melting in 1997

Scary and sad situation. =(

Track was talking about the trouble in Japan, and the news said some radiation has been detected in CA. I hope you're not near the coast?!?

Hi every one. Hope every one is well.
I have been thinking about the Japanese people as well, it's hard not to.

Every day I light a candle for all those people who lost everything, and especially for the children there. I hope the government handles the situation well... I am feeling for all of them in Japan, especially since they seem to be handling the situation so well, I hope you are praying for Japan as well...!

I hope every one is okay, when things like this happen, we can learn from the graceful way the Japanese people handle the situation and how grateful we should be to live in a safe house, and have a healthy life and family.

I wish you guys a lot of things to be grateful for.

Have a great weekend, everyone! :rudolph:

No, I am not near the coast; but my second son lives in Humboldt County, one of the ones hit by the tsunami.

Good Afternoon MMC!

here I am in Garry IN, having supper. We will spend the night here before going to WI. Do not know where from there. But I am having fun learning everything so far. I think I will enjoy this job!

Wow...seems like if I don't check this thread every day, I have to go back 10 pages to read everything! =p

Thank you for all the welcomes! I have been at MMC for two years now but mainly stayed in the Fun and Games section...this is really my first foray into the outside world of the forum. :) So...I guess there is a lot to learn on this thread...someone mentioned a pas de deux? I fancy myself a dancer, so in the words of Crazy!Charlie Sheen - "Bring it!" haha And what is this Pines I see mentioned? Can a new poster ask such questions? ;)

I hope everyone who's mentioned feeling sick feels better! I was sick pretty much the entire time from end of November thru the end of February, so I know how sucky that can be!

My St. Patty's Day was pretty uneventful, I had to work both jobs so it kinda sucked and I didn't get to drink any Irish whiskey or green beer. Sadness.

Tonight I am going out with friends to watch March Madness and celebrate St. Patty's a day late! Can't wait...does anyone else have March Madness? I go crazy over it (I have a bracket in a pool at my one job)...is there a thread on the forum anywhere dedicated to that? I tried looking but couldn't find one.

Okay, this post is a little long...was going to bring up a situation I might need some outside advice on, but I don't know if this is the place for it! Either way, I'm glad to be here! :)

OK.
I'll try to review the history of some of the more -- well -- interesting characters and places mentioned here in our countdown thread.

First, of course, there is Carl.
Ah, Carl! Our 3-humped Coffee Camel.
Born about 5 years ago over at Christmas.com, he came about as part of the long-running interplay between Binger and myself in regards to coffee vs sleep.
(Carl's third hump stored the finest blend of coffee which der Bingster coveted.)

Originally, Carl lived with me and was a frequent over-the-shoulder commentator when I posted the daily count.
After a time, he began staying with willing thread contributors who agreed to be his host for short visits. After each visit, his antics were duly reported by the host for all to read and enjoy.

Over time, the humor wore a bit thin so Carl was mentioned less frequently. Eventually, he was dropped from the thread for several months until one of our members (Auntie perhaps?) inquired as to his whereabouts. At that point, it was revealed that Carl, owing to his unique ability to talk, had been offered an undercover position with the military on a secret spy mission in Saudi Arabia.
On his release and return, he accepted the position of activities director at the Shispering Pines where he remains to this day.

Carl's personality traits: He's fun-loving, talkative, experimental (primarily with coffee blends of a questionable nature) and -- yes -- a bit vain to the point of narcissism.
But under it all, he has a heart of gold and a guaranteed position at the 'Pines owing to his unique talents (and the fact the resort's business has tripled ever since his arrival).

That, of course, brings us to the 'Pines. The Shispering Pines, that is.
Name-christened by our own Jayish after a typo which was supposed to read "Whispering Pines", our thread-resident resort eventually took on a "Holiday Inn" (meaning the 1942 movie) like flavor, especially after Carl's arrival and his tremendous love for Christmas in general and that movie in particular.
Each Wednesday is open house day, where the first glass of sweet southern iced tea is complimentary along with the first Fired Twinkie.

Which in turn brings us to Fired Twinkies. That's right - FIRED Twinkes as (opposed to "fried").
Again, a typo was to blame. (Believe it was Binger this time.)
But our unique thread treat has endured, especially after becoming the official confection at the Shispering Pines.

Well, there you have it, folks. A thumbnail sketch of an explanation as to what has been going on here.

Bear in mind that Carl, the 'Pines and fired twinkies all came about in simpler, less crowded and less complicated times when we were few, everybody knew everybody and what was going on with all the in-jokes.
Do they have a place here at MMC as we get more crowded, sophisticated and free-wheeling?
I guess time will tell!
