Coach, Seawaters, and anyone else who wants to chime in. I just read in the newspaper that one of our local school districts is getting rid of all their textbooks next year. Instead they are going to give each kid an Ipad. I think it is a pretty cool idea but I wonder how well the Ipads will hold up to that kind of use and abuse. So what does everyone else think?

I'm glad to see that you made it home safely!!!

One of the other school districts in the eastern half of my county just bought netbooks for all of the high school students. They got a grant and they are raising the text book rental fee to cover the cost. They are also making each kid pay a $35 insurance fee in case anything happens to it. They are hoping to buy enough for the middle school next year.

I work with a lot of schools in the US who all operate on a 1-2-1 laptop scheme. iPads/iTouch/Android devices are becoming more common due to the text book rules of 'replace after 7 years'. As we all know with text books they get damaged/lost etc and are costly to keep replacing, so its understandable that districts are taking this route. Also by using this type of hardware the software you can use on them is very handy to have especially for assessment.

Evan has hand, foot and mouth disease.. I guess this is common in young kids... they actually get blisters in their mouth.. and a fever... doctor said can be pretty painful and its contagious but goes away in a few days..so now to try to keep my other Son away...that should be pretty difficult... just wanted to give you guys an update!

Poor kid - I hope Evan is better!

First off, my dad is officially back to work as of today, and has resumed driving, golfing, and doing things around the house. As my mom said, he is so happy to not have to mandatorily be lazy! lol He is not the type to sit still so I'm sure he's over the moon right now.

Just read that the tornado has forced our town to cancel it's annual huge July 4th celebration. Three of the planners lost their homes in that storm. I feel so bad for everyone that lost their homes. The article also said that 8% (234 buildings) of the buildings in my town were damaged, including 118 that are uninhabitable. My thoughts still go out to all of my fellow townspeople.

I'm praying for your townfolk!

My sister could care less about Bronners. She said they will go in there and take a quick look around but she doesn't plan on spending all day there like I would. My brother in law just wanted to go to frankenmuth for the beer.

My town is right next to Frankenmuth and I rarely go to Bronners. I need to go there again, but will wait till after Labor Day when it isn't so busy. I want to take my camera, too, so that will give me time to get it fixed. Your brother-in-law should have gone when they had the beer fest a month ago - it is supposed to be a lot of fun.

Ocean City is about 2 1/2 hours from us. We are in the central part of MD near Baltimore... we love Ocean City... (not as much as our Florida vacation haha) but its a lot of fun down there..tons of stuff to do! We were suppose to go the end of the last week but the Boys were sick. Glad your sister is enjoying herself!

I used to love going to Ocean City when I lived in Maryland!!!!
