Hello all...

I have good news and bad news...

The good news is that Travis and I made it home safely.

The bad news is that our house flooded with all the rain that came while we were on vacation. Our carpets and flooring is ruined, our house smells like...well, rain soaked everything, and most of my stuff that was down in the basement is ruined. Not only that, but my parents' house, where all the REST of my stuff was being stored, got 17 inches of water in the basement, so all of my stuff THERE is ruined as well. Looks like we've got a really crappy weekend ahead of us, going through everything and seeing what the damage really is.

The other bad news is that no place around here is selling fans (they all sold out while we were gone), so there's no way to get the smell out, or dry the flooring. We are at a true loss of what to do.

I've breezed through some posts and see that other people are going through some hard times as well, or friends or family members are...I truly hope that everyone comes out of their hard times as well as they can.

Okay, Christmas family. It's official. I am retiring!!!!!!!!!!! I told the school superintendent today after school. I told him I would retire in November 2012, but he asked me to stay at least until Christmas vacation. I wanted to say, "The movie?" But I refrained being a smart aleck. I will finish out this school year and work until Christmas of 2012. My stomach is still churning because of this life-changing decision. Hubby is REALLY happy, so I guess I will be too! I guess I will have to stop spending money now!!!

Congrats! Sounds like you gave yourself a great Christmas present for 2012, I guess you will be here putting in 20,000 posts by yourself with the extra time you may have. cheesy

Whew! what a long week it's been! I have alot to catch up on here,I hope all my Christmas buddies are doing great! I have 3 weeks till I come home to the states and can't wait to see the autumn leaves changing soon! have a great weekend everyone!

I am laying here in bed with a toothache (and I don't even eat sweets, drink sweets, drink alcohol, smoke or any of that stuff) but I still have a toothache! I guess you can just get one anyway! It's not that bad but bad enough to take some Advil to kill the pain. I will be ok though! =)

While I am laying here I am watching Rick Steve's European Christmas.

I am getting sleepy so if I don't get back on here, have a goodnight everyone! Sweet dreams! :!!

I hope that pesky pain has gone away.

Good evening,

Busy day today, a huge delivery at work today, took 5 hours to put all away, then JP had his first Tiger Scouts den meeting, I never did that as a kid, so I hope he enjoys it. Another day off tomorrow, but we are taking part in the Town Wide Tag Sale to show off our pride in our little town, things are slowly returning to normal with this annual event and next week the town's grocery store is reopening for the first time since the tornado, nearly 4 months ago. I have a little extra cash so I plan on going out to see if I can find some cool, unique Christmas ornaments/decorations.
Probably should get to bed.

Hope the Advil works for you. Nothing is quite as miserable as a bad toothache.

I am glad you are home, now as for the smell open your windows take a thin cloth (paper towels will do too if that is all you have) dampen them, spray some type of air freshener (or any thigh you like the smell of a body spray etc.) tape cloth to open window it acts as a vent and will help filter the bad smell and infuse the nice smell. Also, if you have a shop vac even if they floors are a little damp sprinkle very light amount of baking soda and shop vac up - use a shop vac not your regular vacuum - the baking soda draws the musty smell out and the shop vac sucks up any additional water. Hope this helps. Good luck and I hope most of your things will turn out OK.

Thanks Laurie, sounds like great advice! The only problem is, it's so humid outside so we turned the a/c on...figured it would be better that way rather than having the humidity make it worse. But we did buy some Febreze so hopefully that will have the same effect!

The damage wasn't as bad to the items here as we originally thought. Of course, all of our carpet is trash and some flooring in the other part of the basement, but other than that, it was just some old luggage and stuff laying around that was ruined. Everything else is salvageable (we think). Now as for the stuff in my parents' place...we will find out about that tomorrow.

I'm sorry to hear that. I hope you can save most of your stuff.

Hey good luck with everything! I work for an insurance company. There is some kind of powder you can put down to stop the growth of mold and mildew... make sure you put something down because it only takes a few days for mold to start to grow!

Thanks MsChristmas! We are on the lookout for mold and so far have found none, but we are prepared!

Oh, how awful ... I hope you find that not as much was ruined as it seems at first glance. I wish I had some good advice to offer.

So sorry to hear about your bad news. A carpet cleaning company usually does insurance claims and will clean up the water mess. Hope your personal things can be salvaged.

That's what my parents had to have done...luckily we weren't that bad. Hoping the good luck continues!

Good day everyone! I have down time until tomorrow night so I am trying to catch up on my emails and everything else I have let slip lately! I really can't believe how fast time is going by,we are almost again at Holiday 2011! seems just like yesterday we were in January and Febuary,then spring came, summer has flown by and now it's just a few weeks away from the weather really changing to cooler temps and leaves are beginning to fall again. ahh I get so nostalgic(sp) at this time every year...have a great day everyone!

My tooth was bothering me some last night while I was trying to sleep. I never really have had a toothache in my life and this is not really that bad, just sort of an slight ache but it's enough to be bothersome! I really feel bad for those who have had tremendous pain from them!

My oldest grandson will be over to spend some of the day with me and the 2 younger grandchildren will spend the day with my mom (their great grandma). My daughter will be out house shopping and my son in law has to work. She said she could take the kids with her and really hated to have them come over since I keep them all week already while they work but I think it would be a lot easier to shop around without them. Thank God for my mom that she can help out with the little ones. This is really my only day for me to get things done for myself and just keeping my oldest grandson will be no problem.

Good Morning Everyone!!!!! It is a cool foggy morning here in central Indy. Just perfect if you ask me. Well it would be perfect if I was sitting around a small campfire with a cup of warm apple cider. I don't know what I'm doing today. I have some work to do but I may put that off to tomorrow.
