Christmas Countdown - 2011

Talk about wierd weather! our leaves are at the peak color and it's 85F and humid it's just wierd to see the leaves fall and it feels like summer. It's cloudy so that makes the leaves look even prettier I think. In 2 weeks they will all be gone. I found out a good friend of mine's mom has died and his family asked me to be a pallbearer friday night. It's sad when our parents are aging and dying! ugh...and i feel awful that is happening this close to the holidays too. I have about 30 minutes left at work then Im going to go home shower and head over to the funeral home or his house to see the family....have a good afternoon all!

I found out good friend of mine's mom has died and his fmaily asked me to be a pallbearer friday night. It's sad when our parents are aging and dying! ugh...and i feel awful that is happening this close to the holidays too. The last 2 turkeys I have bought had small holes in the plastic and when it thawed out in the fridge it leaked everywhere... This time I bought them a butterball and I need to tell my sister to check it to make sure!

I always put my turkeys inside a trash bag when I thaw them out. That way if they leak it goes into the trash bag. Of course my trash bag had a hole in it last time so it still all leaked into my fridge.

I've been fighting a cold/flu for over a week, and it finally won yesterday. I ended up thinking it was just allergies, but sadly no. I wish I was home & in bed under the covers. I feel like a zombie.

I cried yesterday as I walked through downtown Goderich. It was once such a beautiful place, we loved to go there for day trips because it is right on the lake. The damage from the F3 tornado is so much worse than the news portrayed.

I have a friend who lives with his father in Goderich, at least he was at the time of the tornado. He said that his father's home went untouched, but the homes of his neighbours were fairly destroyed. It is/was definitely something harsh for a small town to recover from.

Just applied for a Christmas temp job at our local boots, fingers crossed I get it. Could really do with that little bit of extra money this year

Great Idea! I will have to remember to tell them that. Nothing is worse than cleaning out a fridge on thanksgiving eve!

I came across this on Youtube the other day: It is a video/slideshow of my town before and after the tornado. It brings a tear to my eye to see it on how we were before June 1. As you watch my house (you don't see our house in the video) is less than a quarter mile from the First Church and Library, and it shows the High St railroad tracks, my street is just off of High St. It really just missed us, if you were looking out of our front window, you would have seen the tornado going across the top of the mountain.

It has been nearly 6 months, and I am still having dreams about it.

Tonight, I believe Kim and I may take in a Christmas movie, too. Elf, perhaps.

My 2 year old granddaughter and I watched this yesterday. I didn't expect her to sit still for it but she loved it!

I've been fighting a cold/flu for over a week, and it finally won yesterday. I ended up thinking it was just allergies, but sadly no. I wish I was home & in bed under the covers. I feel like a zombie.

Seems that everyone is getting a cold. I hope you get well soon!

Woke up this morning to find that most of the trees in the yard have dropped their leaves.

We have a lot of leaves falling but most of our trees are still green!

Thanks for this tip! I usually put something under it but a trash bag would work so much better!

That is a great idea, I usually get close to a 25 lbs turkey, and I put it in this HUGE lobster pot I have just in case is leaks, a GF of mine put the platter she uses to serve the turkey on in the Fridg, and another friend wraps old kitchen towels around it... I have to pass this idea along Made - thx, no clean up just toss the bag!!!

1.) I hear ya about the weather! Right now it's cloudy and in the 70s. By Friday morning it's supposed to have a "feel like" of 38 and a high in the mid-60s with the wind going at 10+ mph. UGH!! :sad:


2.) I also don't like it when I see my mom and dad looks "older." It's weird and scary, ya know? I'm not ready!!

Wednesday ... my Kindle Fire is supposed to be delivered today, so I'll have fun getting that up and running in the next couple days. But the cover is back-ordered and isn't due to arrive until the end of the month. Boo! I'll have to keep it in the box for protection, or see if Staples has a cheapo cover I can use in the interim.

Nice! I've been on the fence, trying to decide between HINTING to my mom that I want a Kindle Fire or a Nook Pad. I'm leaning toward the Fire, since I already have an active Amazon account.

@Christmasstar-You are very lucky to have your mom around at 81! I still have a grandma who is 85..she thinks she is Lucille ball,,but by gosh she is still around,and we love her! I was lucky that i knew all 4 of my grandparents..and did not loose anyone of them until I was 19!
I am going to call it an early night as I have 2 busy days ahead of me! I hope everyone has fun at the pines tonight! Someone have a shot of tequila for me!!
