.........and I'm done! Cooking is over for Thanksgiving 2011. All I have to do in the morning is put some items in the oven and warm or bake them....the rest of the night will be spent doing what needs to be done the most....

being with family.

I just got done getting the turkey ready here at my sister's house. So I'm done too. Now it's time for some cake and ice cream to celebrate my aunt's birthday and then I'll head back to the Pines.

I have been cooking all day. All that is left is the turkey. Wayne said he wanted to cook it so he is in charge of that! :carve:

I hope you all have had a great day! In case I don't make it on here tomorrow, have a fantastic Thanksgiving! I will try to pop in if I can. =)

Well he is in the Rehab floor of the hospital. They moved him there straight from his regular room,he goes 3 times a day so far, there is talk that the therapist can come to his home after disharge, but the Dr also has mentioned he could go straight into long term therapy at a nursing home which would be a great idea, but my dad would hate that,at this point I am not sure what the outcome will be. He can talk, not very clearly but he is already alot better than 2 weeks ago,we are only 18 days or so into this so we are just taking it day by day so far! thanks so much for the prayers!
there are so many things about the human brain and its ability to build new pathways that are still not understood. The young woman I look after had traumatic brain injury 9 years ago in a car accident. Her family was told that if she did survive she would be in a permanent vegetative state and would have to be in long term care not knowing anything. Well, nine years later she is learning to walk again and recovering her skills as a painter, has learned to talk again and learning to read again. All things the doctors said was not possible.
What I have learned from working with her is to never give up, you never know what is possible!

We got our first card!!!! Yayayaya I'm so excited!! So cute!

Merry Christmas to all & to all a good night!

Thinking of you, Anne, as you make this trip. You will bless the day you did it!!!

Good Afternoon to all! I'm working till 7 tonight, then I'll be doing some things at home to get ready for Thanksgiving dinner. Wow, can't believe it crept up on me like this! But I'm ready for it--my turkey is defrosting in the fridge, I've got my sweet potato pie and I've looked up what channels are showing parades. And what else is needed, really?

I got my plane tickets for the memorial service yesterday....I leave a week from today. I normally love to travel, but I'm not looking forward to this trip. I was hoping that my husband could come with, but the money just didn't work out right. But my brothers and at least one my sisters will be there, so there will be lots of moral support. And I know it's important to say goodbye. (And I can take my daughter's and granddaughters' Christmas presents with me and save shipping!)

Well, better get back to work! Happy Wednesday to all!

Anne

Please convey our love and hope that he WILL recover. You are in our prayers!!!

I tell my third graders that the only wrinkles I love are in the brain and that every time we learn something new or review creates those wrinkles. This was SO uplifting!!!

Hubby and I went to Chico today for two appointments--physical therapy and orthopedic surgeon. Everything is on target, but I just don't feel I am bouncing back like I used to--hmmm could it be that I am almost 65 years old??? Many of you have been in my thoughts today as we approach Thanksgiving Day. In my heart, I hope you can find something to be thankful for, even in the midst of trial and tribulation. I cannot convey enough how much you all mean to me.

If you have time .....around the Thanksgiving dinner table. Let your guests fill up on this Thanksgiving fun facts.
  • That's a lot of turkey! In 2011, 248 million turkeys are expected to be raised in the United States. That's up 2 percent from the number raised last year. The turkeys produced in 2010 weighed a combined 7.11 billion pounds and were valued at $4.37 billion. The average weight of a turkey purchased at Thanksgiving is 15 pounds. A turkey this size usually has about 70 percent white meat and 30 percent dark meat.
  • Talk about leftovers! The heaviest turkey ever raised was 86 pounds, about the size of a large dog.
  • Maybe the "Gobbler" State is more appropriate. It may be called the "Gopher" state but Minnesota leads the way in turkey rearing, with a whopping 46.5 million turkeys taking residence up north. It is followed by North Carolina (30.0 million), Arkansas (30.0 million), Missouri (18.0 million), Virginia (17.5 million) and Indiana (16.0 million). These six states together account for about two-thirds of U.S. turkeys produced in 2011.
  • Canadian Turkeys. During the first half of 2011, the U.S. imported about $7.8 million worth of live turkeys from Canada. The United States ran a $3.6 million trade deficit in live turkeys during the period.
  • Really? That much? In 2009, the typical American gobbled up 13.3 pounds of turkey. Surprisingly, Californians are the largest consumers of turkey in the United States.
  • Sweet... All that turkey was accompanied by an average of 5.3 pounds of sweet potatoes per person. In 2010, major sweet potato producing states grew 2.4 billion pounds of this orange spud.
  • Food Findings. More than 90% of Americans eat turkey on Thanksgiving Day, 50% percent put their stuffing inside the turkey and more than 40 million green bean casseroles are served on Thanksgiving.
  • Not a turkey in sight! Chances are, turkey, mashed potatoes and corn were nowhere near the first Thanksgiving table. The first Thanksgiving in Plymouth, Massachusetts featured lobster, rabbit, chicken, fish, squashes, beans, chestnuts, hickory nuts, onions, leeks, dried fruits, maple syrup and honey, radishes, cabbage, carrots, eggs, and goat cheese are thought to have made up the first Thanksgiving feast.
  • Mary Had a Little Turkey? Sarah Josepha Hale, an American magazine editor and author of the popular nursery rhyme "Mary Had a Little Lamb", persuaded Abraham Lincoln to declare Thanksgiving a national holiday. President Lincoln issued a 'Thanksgiving Proclamation' on October 3, 1863 and officially set aside the last Thursday of November as the national day for Thanksgiving.
  • A turkey by any other name. A female turkey is called a hen and makes a clucking sound. A male turkey is know as a "Tom" and gobbles. At maturity, the average turkey shows off 3,500 feathers.
  • Flying the coop. The American Automobile Association (AAA) estimated that 42.2 million Americans traveled 50 miles or more from home over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend in 2010

Dawg I know your dad may not want to go to a nursing home but just remember to consider the stress of having to take care of him will put on your mom when making the decision.

After my great uncle had his strokes he was moved into a nursing home and he hated it. He never got married though so there was no one to really take care of him. He would cry for us to take him with us every time we went to visit though and finally my grandma gave in and had him move in with her. The stress got to her though and she died of a heart attack 3 months later.

Well I'm off to bed. I'll be on sometime tomorrow but just in case

I hope you all have a Happy Thanksgiving!!!!!!!!

Goodnight Everyone!!!!!

Good morning everyone! I feel tons better today, perhaps the wine knocked it right out last night! I met my dad's Dr. this morning, and did not care at all for her! I want him to change Dr's but while he is at the hospital they said that was impossible. Some Dr's are great and you can tell they love thier jobs, but some like her I met this morning, went into the wrong profession! My dad is not doing as good as I imagined if he leaves on dec 3rd he will need round the clock care, and I am just glad he has excellent coverage and will not have to pay for it at all,but I feel sorry for the patients that are not covered, medical costs are outragous!
On a brighter note I am taking my mom's pug to the vet at 1 to get her nails clipped and then we are cooking, and tomorrow we are going to take Dad a hot meal and spend the afternoon with him. I have so much to be thankful for and him being alive is one of them!! I apprecaite all of your continued support and prayer, you guys really are family, even though we have never met I feel a bond with all of you,and I hope everyone has a great day today, and a wonderful thanksgiving!

My thoughts continue to be with you and your family.

hi everyone just popping in to say
Hope you all have a lovely thanksgiving.to each and everyone of you.
To those that have to travel. be careful.
you guys dont be overdoing the eating and drinking !!!!

Good evening,

Well, Thanksgiving turkey selling season is over...WOOOOHOOOO! Christmas is upcoming now it will be hams, turkeys, and beef rib roasts (prime rib) which is easier than the thousands of turkeys we sold. Now the holidays are here, I look forward to watching the parade, and eating so much yummy food. My Bruins won their 10th game in a row, this team is so exciting to watch, and I will get home to watch them play the Red Wings on Black Friday at 1pm.

Who played the joke at the Pines tonight? my twinkie was filled with turkey gravy, that was just nasty. Anyone else get one like that? cheesy

Have a great night, and Happy Thanksgiving!!
