Christmas Countdown - 2011

Hi all. Hope you're all having a good day. I was until about an hour and half ago. DH put me into a bit of funk. He got called for overtime, so now he is working 34 hours straight. I hate when he does that. I know probably some of you are thinking (what's the big deal?!), but him and I don't get to see each other too much anyway and since today is my day off, it would have been nice to see him this evening when he got home from work. Oh well. So much for that.

The kids are currently at daycare since he is at work and I had worked last night. I need to get a few things done before I go pick them up. I think I am now going to go make a grilled cheese and ham and some creamy tomato soup for lunch.

it is 5c here this morning. We may get some snow mixed with the steady rain we have been getting the last few days.

We're at 8c here! Fortunately, it is supposed to cool down this evening. The rain will then turn into snow. Hooray! From then on out, it looks like highs of 1-2c for the next couple weeks. Bring on the Christmas Season weather!

Good afternoon, everyone!

I wanted to stay longer when I began posting this morning, but work really picked up. Since I started here, we've had three new people start. One last week and another two this week. I like not being the new guy!

More importantly, let's talk Christmas... especially since we are now less than 20 days away from the Big Day! As mentioned in a previous post, the weather outside is anything but cold. 8c! Thankfully, the temperatures should decline this evening and remain at around freezing for the next week or so...

Kim and I had a fun weekend. Saturday, we went to the Rideau Centre to see if we could find a few gifts. Although we did not purchase anything, we found a few ideas that could be used as last minute gifts. To say that the mall was packed would be an understatement. It seems like everyone is getting any remaining shopping done as soon as they can. The hustle and bustle of the Season remains in full swing!

It would have been nice to purchase a few gifts, but I can't bring much on the plane with me since I am flying home. I need to save room for my stuff! Also, the fact that I have not been paid in nearly a month doesn't help either. Thankfully, my first paycheck comes in this week... And, even better, it should about four times more than my previous pay. I have some bills/debts to pay!

Overall, it was a decent weekend. Although I was disappointed to the Kings lose to the diving circus show of PK Subban and the Habs, I was happy to see the Packers battle adversity and drive down the field for a last second victory over the Giants. The Giants played tough. It was a very exciting game to watch!

OK. Lunch is over. I think I should return to some work. Even though I am on my fourth week, I am still learning a bunch of new things. Seems like I am going to be learning well into January, too.

Thanks! It is a delicious lunch. I should be glad DH even has a job and it's a good job at that, especially at this time of the year. I tend to forget those things and think about the people who are these fourtante then me...shame on me

Good afternoon all! We had another good concert last night at an inner city Church. It was fun, and when we took a bow at the end, we heard a pounding on the glass doors at the side, and found out that we'd had an audience outside also! They were so quiet we didn't realize they were there. They were all pretty young; I was surprised to see them out by themselves. However, they seemed like they had a good time, and they got very excited when we came over to the door. Some of the chorus members sand "Jingle Bells" for them, and they were jumping up and down like mad. I'm sorry they didn't ask to come in; the church would have let them come in if we had known they were there.

I have to admit that my Christmas spirit is constantly being tested, can't really figure out what is up with people this year, but people in my everyday life seem to be less than enthusiastic about the holidays this year, I get that it has been a rough year for a lot of people, it has been a rough year for me as well in a lot of ways but I am hopeful still that the Christmas spirit will prevail and soften the hearts of some of the people in my life.

Keep your Christmas spirit alive and it will rub off on others eventually! =)

I understand! My husband and I were just talking about this last night. Our Saturdays together are very important to us since it is the only full day we have together that both of us are off work. If I get called in to work he is not too happy and wants to be with me but he understands. He is not mad at me but disappointed that we don't have the whole day together. There has been rare occasions he had to go in on Saturdays and I want him home. I have even talked him into playing golf with the guys at church but it is always on a Saturday. He went but he just doesn't like to go on that day. It's "our day"! :wink: I can understand it being a big deal to you.

Isn't that a good feeling not to be the "new guy" anymore? I remember feeling that way about the job I am at now. When I first started I wanted to hurry and get a few years in. I will be there 9 years in January. I have been employed there longest right along with one other person. Most of the people that work there are family that run the place and they have been there 25+ years. The owner has been there over 60 years. Then they have 10-12 other employees. They usually stay a year or 2 then move on. Good place and good people to work for but mostly get college and high school students needing a temporary job.

I am taking a break from baking. So far I got white chocolate orange walnut cookies, rocky road chocolate candy, vanilla creme cake balls and sugar cookies made. I am about to make snowball cookies, chocolate chip cookies and orange creme cake balls.

It's taking me awhile because I am making some wheat/gluten free for myself so I can enjoy! Then the rest for everyone else. Once I make their stuff then I make mine. My mom and son tried the gluten free stuff and said it taste just as good as the regular but it just cost too much to make that for everyone. =( I also have a limited amount of gluten free ingredients on hand.

Good afternoon everyone. Well, what a blast we had this weekend the Village of Port Jefferson did their Dickens Village, actors from the local theater perform and the Streets have story readings and food and fun for the family, there are choirs and music and dancing. It was Wonderful, we went Friday night and Saturday afternoon. On Sunday we went to another one in Stony Brook, we had so much fun.

I wasn't able to work on any cards today at work b/c I got bamboozled. I printed out over 200 warrant requests!

Oooh yeah....this girl is going to make herself an unhealthy-but-very-well-deserved dinner tonight! :wink:

Hi Everyone! Hope everyone is doing well and full of Christmas spirit!

I apologize for not being around here much over the last week, suffice it to say, life has been hectic and got in the way of my Christmas activities

I have to admit that my Christmas spirit is constantly being tested, can't really figure out what is up with people this year, but people in my everyday life seem to be less than enthusiastic about the holidays this year, I get that it has been a rough year for a lot of people, it has been a rough year for me as well in a lot of ways but I am hopeful still that the Christmas spirit will prevail and soften the hearts of some of the people in my life.

On a happier note, I have launched a 2nd Christmas station, The Christmas Station Mega Mix, while the main The Christmas Station plays mostly just the most popular of the classics from yesterday and today, and that seems to be what people want the most and come to expect in that station, I am experimenting with a little different and larger variety in 2nd station The Christmas Station Mega Mix including sound bytes from classic holiday films, etc. It is a live broadcast and commercial free for everyone, however the listener capacity of it is not as large as the main Christmas Station, but still gives people a chance to listen to a station that is 100% commercial free. Right now it is live and on air but will be working to refine and experiment with the 2nd station more as time permits.

Anyway, going to catch up on this thread and everything going on here at MMC and do my best to keep up with it better!

As for the Christmas spirit, as you said, many are stuggling just to make ends meet, never mind adding Christmas gifts to it all. Make sure to pass some of yours along to them!

it was 8c when I got up this morning here, now it is down to 3 with snow in the forcast for tonight.

Hopefully we get a nice layer before Christmas!
