It's awful weather here, it makes staying inside and writing on my thesis less awful

We actually had a snow squall, which brought down about 2 inches, then we woke about to about 1 or 2 more I would say. DH said he thinks he will have to go out and shovel the drive way in a little bit. I think that is the kind of snow he hates - the kinds that there isn't enough, so he has to shovel, instead of using the snow blower on the driveway!

My dad is the same way as your DH. Usually my brother and I are the lucky shovelers because my mom wont let my dad do it. Hopefully all the snow comes to south jersey before the 16th (brother goes back to college) or else I will be on my own for shoveling!

If you're the old-fashioned type, here's a fine little book from 1910 that you can read online, because it's in the public domain. This article in the MMC Christmas Library tells about it.




"The Time-Life Book of Christmas"---they've published a few editions, but this one that was published in 1987 is my favorite. It's out of print, but you may be able to find it through eBay or BookFinder.com. It's one of the best Christmas browses I have---photos, articles, recipes, stories, crafts, it's all there.

We had been doing this forum for a couple of months and really aren't anymore, but there are a list of some good books in here. I have been picking books for it!

So like so many of you this is my first day back to the grind. Not too bad so far, the hardest part is ramping up and tomorrow my relaxed lazy days will be quickly forgotten. I just need this morning joe to kick in.

hey everyone! well i'm up & got hubby of to work @ 6am & had some time before i must get to work so wanted to wish ya'll a happy new year & tell ya'll of our goals (not resolutions) for this year.
2. QUIT SMOKING-this 1 is just for me.i'm the only smoker in our family, i do not smoke in our home-always outside- i'm tired of coughing & all the ill side effects of smoking, i've just gotta get it together.

Hey everybody!! I am SO SICK of this weather. We've got 102 mph winds (slightly better than the 165 mph last time but not much) Again, trees down, bridges and airports and train stations closed, sheds blown over, tiles off roofs. Don't think my windows are built for this kind of thing. The blizzard that is being predicted is due to start any time now but it doesn't look anything like snow right now so that's a bonus.

This is my last day of holiday and I won't be leaving the house. I didn't get my baking done yesterday and there's a programme about William and Kate on just now so I'm not too worried about vacating the premises, but at some point, the dogs are going to have to go out. Hope it's died down enough by then. It doesn't worry me if it's snowing, it's just when you're blown off your feet that I'm not too happy with!

By the way, I am so cold!!! I thought it was supposed to be in the low 30's today, but it doesn't look like it is going to get anywhere close! It has been 17°F since I woke up at 7:00 AM this morning. Even though the heat is on in my house and we have two space heaters running, I can still feel the chill from outside. With the windchill, the temperature is 2°F. I am going to make myself something piping hot for lunch, forget a salad!

I hope you are all staying warm! Weather like this really reminds me of how Christmas should be (minus the extreme winds anddd maybe not so cold)!

hi yur right its really cold here in northern ireland as well.its about 3 degrees .. the christmas blues are hateful am usually bad but this year am ok so far on saying that i dont have all my decor down yet this mmc does seem to help and as you say 356 days is not a lot

Thanks...all the calls I got were for schools that are about an hour away with no traffic and are places I have never been to before. (Trenton, Mount Holly, or places in Salem county). I live right in the middle of Gloucester county so i didnt want to risk being late to a job.

My worst blues came Christmas night as well. I look forward to it so much and this year things didn't work out how I'd hoped. Its ok though, there is always next year and the year after and the year after...

He just had EA outside and they were playing. I guess he was shoveling - his hip has been bothering him and he said that he decided to end up snow blowing because his hip was bothering him so bad. It really started to snow again and I would say we probably just got another inch again!

I keep wanting to reply to every one, so i read all of the post and press 'multi' here and there, but when i get to writing i realize i need to get back to work, so i close the screen but i do want to send you all support and kindness!

That sounds awful, and frightening. Hope you're holding up under it okay. And a blizzard on top of that? Oh, no! We got slammed with lots of snow last year, but not with winds over 100 mph. Stay warm and safe.

I am going to listen to MCR and drink holiday chai tea - it will make the day go by faster!
