The peanut butter Tastykakes are nothing like the coffee cakes. They're little, flattish cakes with peanut butter on top, then enrobed in a chocolate coating. Kinda like a Girl Scouts cookie, but with cake instead of a cookie inside. The coconut one is the same, except with dark chocolate on the outside and coconut cake inside.

Y'all need to stop talking about Tastykakes!!!!!!!! I haven't seen any around here in a couple of months.

Those cakes sound so good. I love cake, any kind!

I will be thinking of you.

Just a graveside service. The pastor conducting the service got to know Dad well during his final illness. If friends or family want to say a few words, they may. A group of us will be going out for lunch afterward. Nothing fancy.

I was thinking of the need to post a pic. I am not sure when I will get started. The kitchen will be begun this summer.

Our friend lives just a couple towns over, but he's so busy we only get to connect with him a few times a year. So the only "sightseeing" will be in our screening room. As for movies, we'll just wing it, as usual. We may wind up spending more time yakking than watching movies, because we haven't caught up with him in a while.

Once you get to crocheting, don't forget to post pictures of your creations!

I understand where you're coming from. We all had to memorize our multiplication tables early-on. And if you can't add & subtract by 3rd grade, you're in trouble.

Even I could do multiplication tables in school and I am horrible at math !

Good evening, everyone!

I went to the mall today and found Christmas mugs on sale for 50% off. I bought two sets so I will have eight new mugs next year!

.

So what's your favorite Tastykake? Mr. loves the Koffee Kake Juniors, the Coconut Juniors, and the Chocolate Juniors. I'm partial to the peanut butter Kandy Kakes ... but we always hope our friend who brings us Tastykakes from Baltimore goes to visit his family when the Ghostly Goodies come out around Halloween (Kandy Kakes with dark chocolate and coconut-flavored cake).

Oh My Gosh !!! Tastykake !!! Haven't had any in YEARS !! They were all so yummy !!!! Those Ghostly Goodies sound fantastic !!! xo

Dad used to say he didn't care what happened after he was in the "marble orchard," but I'm happy he'll be going home to rest with the rest of our family, be it by carry-on or by mail. After all the estate misadventures, this is going to be done as right as I can make it happen. Thank heaven, when I called the cemetery to explain the situation, the guy in charge knew Dad and is now burgess (mayor) of the town. He asked permission to pass the date and time along to other people who worked with, and went to school with, Dad. So I think there will be a tidy little crowd there to see Dad off, including the list of people my aunt is going to invite. I think he'd be pleased.

I know your dad is so glad you are his daughter. I am sure he is so proud of the way you perservered for him xo

Busy day ... already did the week's bookkeeping, going up to the North Shore for an appointment a little later (and maybe a nice roast beef sandwich at Chick's), back here to unpack the Christmas tree from its too-small storage bag and re-pack it in the big trash barrel we bought to store it in, then I have to call my aunt ... Tomorrow we'll be getting the house tidy for a visitor. We're meeting him for lunch, then coming back here to get caught up with each other's news and watch some movies. Then Monday comes. *sigh* Well, there's always next weekend! I'll try to grab some relaxation this evening. I didn't get to crochet at all a couple nights this week. :-?

It's gray and wet today, so the drive won't be very pleasant, but Mr. is going along, so at least I'll have some company.

This is preaching to the choir, but I REALLY enjoy logging in each day and catching up with everyone's news. There's a song lyric in "The Muppet Movie":
"There's not a word yet/For old friends you've just met."
Substitute "haven't met," and that's MMC.

We are always glad to read your posts as well, Merry !!! Always very glad to see you xoxo

Good evening Christmas family. I am so whipped. These 10 hour days are quite tiring. But in order to make more money that is what I have to do.

Wish is doing well again...eating well, no sickness. You would never know he is ill. I hope everyone has a great, Christmassy evening !!

Glad to hear Wish is doing well!

Woke up to clear, sunshiney skies here in northern California. No ice to scrape, but it is cold. I am going to put some beans in the crockpot to serve as refried beans tonight. Since the 49ers play tonight, Hubby wants to watch the game and enjoy a "comfort dinner." I am going to make homemade smoked turkey enchiladas. He really likes that as a meal. I like it, too, because it is easy to put together and I can relax while it bakes. I will be checking in throughout the day. Take care, everyone!

The enchiladas sound delicious !! Since I don't eat red meat, I should get a cookbook with recipes like that !! I don't know why I never have !!! :-o

We never get snow, except on the mountains, which I can see in the distance. I wish we did, though.

One of my favorite Christmas movies, Angel In The Family, takes place someplace in California in the mountains and there was a lot of snow !! You could just tell it was real !! xo

Our principal told one of the other third grade teachers that she had received "lots of calls from parents of third graders" (I don't believe "lots" at all.) to complain about the third grade math curriculum being too hard for their kids!!! I was aghast! Excuse me? Third grade math curriculum has ALWAYS been addition and subtraction with carrying and borrowing (now called regrouping); multiplication facts; beginning multi-digit multiplication; beginning division; some geometry as in shape identification, perimeter and area; and beginning fractions. When I say ALWAYS, that means from my mom's time, to my time, to present time; so it's not like a big change in math curriculum happened at all. Plus, these are the things tested on the state test at third grade. We teachers did not determine the curriculum; the state did. Nor was this curriculum introduced this year! The principal wants us to spend our next collaboration day seeing what we could take out of the curriculum!!! Can you believe that? What in the world is hard about memorizing multiplication facts? Shall we not teach it and let the kids be unprepared for fourth grade? But maybe next year these same concerned parents will want the fourth grade teachers not tax the brains of the kids again! Of course, memorizing math facts does interfere with computer time, game-playing time, TV time, sports time, etc. Heaven forbid that we should require homework either. I just had to vent at such stupidity, especially on behalf of our principal. I am floored!!! I wonder what the principal and the parents will say when they get the results of the state test? Of course, it will still be the teacher's fault! Please, let me lower my standards so your kid will not have to work!!! Sorry for the rant.

Wow, I cannot believe that. Isn't school suppose to be challenging.
