It is, Xmas! Somehow, some of the parents didn't get the message! I just couldn't figure it out. Then the kids said something on Friday afternoon that made me think. They said that the last sub did not make them do the items on my agendas, but made them do math pages all day. (The sub just happens to be a friend of the principal whom I am sure she would love to get her at our school!!!) I had already told the principal how she had not followed my lesson plans and how my class was now two weeks behind. (At that point, I did not know it was the principal's friend. She kept assuring me that the lady was a great sub.) I'll bet the parents called when their kiddos complained about doing math for two weeks straight!!! I will find out on Monday when I ask the principal! I have a sneaky feeling that is what it is, and the principal is blaming the parents so her friend won't get into trouble!

Wow, I cannot believe that. Isn't school suppose to be challenging.

Good evening,

It was an ugly, misty, raw day here, which meant it was very busy at work. My body is tired but I'm happy to be home now. Day off tomorrow, having our 5th family get together in the last month, this time for my birthday. Got to get the kids to bed.

I have seen this same thing, RachRon. Do some of the students and parents think that it isn't important to know the math facts? I DO wish that we would teach straight addition and addition with carrying in first grade, straight subtraction and subtraction with borrowing in second grade, multiplication in third grade, division in fourth, fractions in fifth, etc. Students could review the previous years' work and then concentrate on the particular math concept, thereby becoming proficient or advanced in that one concept. By that time, they would be mature enough to understand more concepts per year. For myself, I find that third grade students, anymore, have difficulty remembering how to compute perimeter and area; and fractions really throw them completely. By the time the state test rolls around in late April or early May, students have forgotten what was taught at the beginning of school, especially place value and rounding and estimating. So we have to spend so much time on review and don't get to all the curriculum. I am going to offer to tutor my students for free the rest of this year so I can work one-on-one with those who really want extra help and to prepare for reviewing for the state test. I'll bet only a few parents will want that for his or her child. Even now with our after-school interventions, kids tell their parents they don't want to go because it is so boring, so the parents don't make them and turn down the extra help. It is this same group of students who really need the extra help. But what can a teacher do? I will admit, though, that there are some parents who are truly appreciative of the extra help. I had one parent whose daughter did not want to stay after school. The mother had turned down interventions since kindergarten. I told the mom how important it is and that I would recommend retention as an alternative. She then decided that she did not want her daughter to repeat, so she finally approved. That kid has made such progress! I am so proud of her! And now the mom says how glad she is that her daughter was in intervention. She is now better prepared for fourth grade reading!

Okay, sorry for the extra rant, friends.

...
Wow I couldn't agree with you more !! Parents are getting out of control they think every kid should get an A and not have to work for it. Most parents don't want to be bothered with any of it the just want to send their kids to school and if anything goes wrong blame the teachers.

Good evening all! Hope all is well in your neck of the woods. Looking forward to tomorrow, as I have the next two days off.

How was everyone's day? I didn't do a whole lot here. I've been just continuing to study on and off , when I have the time and I spent time with DH and my kids.

Well, I am off to take a nap before work. I will talk to all you tomorrow! Enjoy your Sunday. God Bless and talk to you all soon!

Oh, please, yes, really!!!

Sorry 'bout that! I grew up with them, and they started showing up in stores here after Hostess went out of business, so we're still excited at being able to get them locally.

Maybe we should have an annual snack cake exchange so everybody can sample the various regional brands! (Not really)

Thank you, CM3. And I am glad that you are feeling better and not so sad this year. Yeah!!!

Good evening, Christmas family

Just settling down watching a movie. Had a hair appointment today to replenish my "naturally" red hair :-o I worked this morning as I have for the last 11 mornings in a row. I don't mind. At least this is ME CHOOSING to do that. It is the only way to get enough lines to pay the bills at 7.5 cents a line. I have really buckled down lately and have FINALLY been "putting the pedal to the metal" in terms of working.

My tree is nearly down. I need another box for the last ones......I already miss it but for some reason I am not sad this year....as much as I hate to admit it, it felt like the "right" day to take it down. Besides, I have all of you to keep me in a holly jolly mood !! xo

Xmas - I hope your little boy will be okay with the changes.

Seawaters - I hope you were able to get warm and out of pain.

I may be back later, dear Christmas family xoxoxo

LOL, Xmas. You reminded me that I bought a gingerbread house kit and forgot all about it!!! It was quite expensive because it came in a Christmas basket with lots of cake decorations, frosting, candy, "crackers," two Christmas mugs, etc. I have to go get it out of the car!!!

I hope that house is gingerbread. cheesy

Glad you had such success, MC! It will definitely make your Christmas a little easier next year.

I forgot to say that I had left the sub two Christmas packets of fun things (and educational) to do during December. I also left supplies for the kids to make miniature pinatas. Of course it didn't get done, so I gave out the packets on Friday and told several kids to bring in egg cartons. We are going to make one pinata per student next week, and I am giving them supplies to put away with their Christmas stuff and make another one next year. I also gave them several recipes from the countries we were supposed to have studied: mini pizzas, Santa Lucia rolls, and latkes. We are going to work on the packets by fitting them in and not lingering over anything. I told them they can practice this year and do it again next year. By putting the packets with their Christmas stuff, they will have it next Christmas. They were so excited.

Almost forgot to mention ... My tree fits nice and snugly into the big trash barrel we bought as storage. I tucked it in this evening. We had to go out and get some supersize clear trash bags to cover it with to keep the dust out, and it was golden. A little tough fitting the bags over the top, but much easier than trying to wrestle the tree into a storage bag! Next year all I have to do is pull off the bag, lift the tree out, shape the branches, and I'll be ready to string the lights and decorate.

Talking about teaching, it seems it was like that when my kids were younger. I would say a lot of parents just did not support their child's teachers decisions and it was very sad. I was a very supportive parent of all of my kid's teachers and at the end of the year they thanked me for that. I remember my daughter occasionally complained about me being on the teachers side, now she thanks me for being that way. She is now a teacher! cheesy

I only ever had one bad experience with one teacher, (not bad for raising 2 kids and only 1 teacher!) I tried VERY HARD to be on their side but it just didn't work out. I thought it was just me but it seems there was a lot more going on with this teacher besides me. I won't go all into that, things just happen! It was an isolated case and we moved on! For the rest of the teachers- great job!!! Keep up the good job, Seawaters!!!!

Have a beneficial nap, Sugar. And enjoy your two days off! I'll bet you are going to do something fun with the kiddos!

Caninemom, same thing with me about my tree. The time just seemed right to bring it down. I just will not force it to come down any sooner until I am fully ready. It does help to have wonderful friends on here like you and everyone else to keep me jolly!!!

I am still praying for Wish. How is he doing???

Awww...Thanks CAH !! You would never know the little sweetie is even sick !!! He gets his fluids every day, which I must say I have gotten quite used to doing and he doesn't even mind. His appetite is back and he is eating really well. No GI issues either !!! Praise the Dear Lord ......xo

Thanks, CAH. I am always appreciative of helpful parents who show how much they care. I have three parents/grandparents who come in once a week to help for an hour in the classroom. I love it! It feels great to be supported. I am going to plan a party before I retire to show them how much they have helped our class. It is especially nice to have another person listen to those students read whose parents did not listen to because of work, other babies in the family, or even drug problems. That way, the kids get the reading practice they need that the parent couldn't do. And sometimes, I just can't get to everyone! These helpers are really our classroom angels!!!

Good evening, MMC!

I hope everyone is well! The last of the snow is gone ~ just in time for the cold front that is coming through. So very glad the ice is gone!!! I am getting ready to watch the first hour of the new Fright Night movie with Colin Ferrill ~ it is so nice when there is free movie channels on the preview! Later on, I will be listening to The Greasy Skillet.

Have a MERRY evening!

Hey Meceka !!! xoxo

Nice to see you, Sugar. Doing okay here - Wish is doing really well !!!!!! xo I hope your evening is quiet at work !!

I am so thankful to hear that, Caninemom! These little furry family members can just tear us to pieces when they are ill. I know I totally broke down when they said Chico has congestive heart failure. Right now, being on his medicine, you would never know it!!! I still worry but feel a bit of relief to see him happy and energetic!
