What a ball game! Now the 49ers have to travel to Atlanta to play the Falcons. Hubby had wanted the Seahawks to win so the 49ers would play at home. Oh, well.
Our principal told one of the other third grade teachers that she had received "lots of calls from parents of third graders" (I don't believe "lots" at all.) to complain about the third grade math curriculum being too hard for their kids!!! I was aghast! Excuse me? Third grade math curriculum has ALWAYS been addition and subtraction with carrying and borrowing (now called regrouping); multiplication facts; beginning multi-digit multiplication; beginning division; some geometry as in shape identification, perimeter and area; and beginning fractions. When I say ALWAYS, that means from my mom's time, to my time, to present time; so it's not like a big change in math curriculum happened at all. Plus, these are the things tested on the state test at third grade. We teachers did not determine the curriculum; the state did. Nor was this curriculum introduced this year! The principal wants us to spend our next collaboration day seeing what we could take out of the curriculum!!! Can you believe that? What in the world is hard about memorizing multiplication facts? Shall we not teach it and let the kids be unprepared for fourth grade? But maybe next year these same concerned parents will want the fourth grade teachers not tax the brains of the kids again! Of course, memorizing math facts does interfere with computer time, game-playing time, TV time, sports time, etc. Heaven forbid that we should require homework either. I just had to vent at such stupidity, especially on behalf of our principal. I am floored!!! I wonder what the principal and the parents will say when they get the results of the state test? Of course, it will still be the teacher's fault! Please, let me lower my standards so your kid will not have to work!!! Sorry for the rant.
Good morning, friends! My Sunday is off to a wonderful start...as I sit here drinking coffee, reading to boards, and plan on looking at some Christmas websites. Usually in January, I don't do anything Christmas related, except come here and visit...but I've got the itch to just look around....so that's what I'm going to do.
Soup is in the crockpot...and it's gonna be another great Sunday. See ya in a bit!
I am so ready for VIJ !!!!!!! :???:
I was cheering for the Seahawks too. :-?
Let's see if I can keep the curse going. Let's go Patriots!!!!!!!!
Seawaters, I agree w/ you 100%. You are a wonderful teacher, and an amazing human being. ALL of your students parents should realize that, and be grateful for all that you do for their children. I don't have children, either, but the I do see that the world we live in today is not the world that I grew up in. My parents wouldn't let me play or watch tv until my homework was finished. They made themselves available to me if I needed any help, and would take to heart any advice my teachers would give them. They taught me to show respect to everyone, and I in turn would receive the same. If I did something wrong, I would get grounded or get privileges taken away. Please and thank you were always used. I have the best parents! And I had some really great teachers. My point is, most things go back to the parents... If you don't have caring parents dedicated to raising their kids right, there is a lack of respect present all around. What the parents should do is find out why their children are having trouble in math, and work with them in the evenings so that they can do well and progress just like the curriculum suggests. It's sad That they want to place blame and make excuses instead of moving forward in the right direction. You have every right to be upset.
Don't apologize, we are your friends & support you always.
Sorry, this is a little late of a response, but wanted you to know that I was thinking of you. Xo

I couldn't remember what VIJ meant, I was thinking Valentine's Day? I just remembered. Valarie! When the date is released for Christmas In July, I might need it to plan a vacation week.
You know most certainly that Wish is welcomed at my house to come along with you. All of your furry friends are welcomed!!!
I am glad you enjoyed it. I shed a few unexpected tears and smiled a lot through the whole documentary. It was surprisingly very touching!
Watching the trailer for, They Wore the Red Suit, I can't wait to see it!
Unstrung the lights and packed up the trees today, and packed away the outdoor candy canes, power cords, floodlight, etc. I'm totally bushed from wrestling the larger tree into its storage bag---even then I had to find another bag for the top section. There's got to be a better way! I don't want to damage the tree by squashing it into storage. Thank heaven it's only a four and a half foot tree! I couldn't handle a larger one.
Lunchtime!

And with this post, Merry Carey is poster #1000. For her efforts, she wins a used movie stub. Let's hear it for MC!!!
Good afternoon,
My belated birthday dinner/lunch went well, I made my special recipe of Italian sausage and peppers over pasta based on an old Olive Garden dish. I ended up watching the Seahawks vs Falcons game, because my father-in-law wanted to watch the game, it was exciting but like I have said, football is done for me once the Bengals are done. I am not watching the Patriots game, but Happiness is A Warm blanket Charlie Brown recording from December, loving the Christmas commercials. Looking forward to the Bruins starting on Saturday night.
enjoy the rest of your Sunday!
That meal sounds so good. Did you have cake, too?
To Kill a Mockingbird
Of course, my wife made a chocolate cake from scratch, we call it "Crack" cake, because it is so addictive. cheesy
