Good Morning MMC!!!!!! It's going to be a little bit colder here today with a high near 30 degree's. At least it's not going to snow. No big plans for me today. My sister just called and it sounds like she is going to bring the girls in for me to babysit while her and my BIL go finish their christmas shopping. Other than that, I may try to do some baking. I hope everyone is having a GREAT DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I spoke to soon. Now they are saying we may see an inch or two of lake effect snow tonight.

Good morning!
Well the snow turned over to rain last night and washed all of the snow away. At least I don't have to drive anyone to work today. I was back and forth to the outlets 6 times yesterday!
My oldest daughter found out that her ex-boyfriend just qualified as one of 10 Lugers who will represent the United States in the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. He's only 19, one of the youngest men to ever qualify for a spot on the U.S. Olympic luge team. He has worked so hard for this, he moved away from his family to Lake Placid when he was 15. We are so excited!
Anyway, not too much going on here today. My husband has been painting like crazy, trying to get it all done. I still don't have a tree up. I'm not going to wait much longer. He'll have to work around the tree!
I'm going to do some more wrapping today. And finish up my Christmas cards.
I hope everyone is well and has a wonderful day!

Good morning everyone!

I have finally returned. Busy day yesterday, too! On Friday, I witnessed The Barenaked Ladies live in concert with the National Arts Centre Orchestra. It was fantastic. Even without Steven Page, who left the band in 2009, BNL was fantastic! Obviously, they couldn't quite play all their songs due to Page's unmistakeable voice, but they played many of my favourites...and of course Christmas songs! My only real complain about the performance was that there was often too much time between songs. They were funny, but they could have gotten about three or four more songs in if they had some quick transitions.

Oh well. It was still worth my $60. Great show. We had fantastic seats in the balcony, too. I'd love to share photos, but the NAC has a strict no photography policy. I decided to obey it. I will cherish the memories forever. Really hoping that I'll be able to see them again soon!

As for yesterday, I went to see the Los Angeles Kings at the Ottawa Senators here at the Canadian Tire Centre. I waited to the last minute to get tickets, which seems to be the very best idea. I managed to get two tickets in a suite for $50. Of course, the game was very entertaining, too. The Kings scored twice in the first four minutes and won 5-2! It was great to see my favourite team play - and win - live! There were lots of other Kings fans there, too. It's always great to see everyone break out their Kings jerseys!

Well, it's a big day for football today. The Packers need another win. We'll see how they fare against the Cowboys in Dallas. Until then, I have a few things to do...

Today is my mom's birthday. Hard to believe she's already closing in on her late 50s. She's also flying home from Fort Myers, Florida today... so, I hope it's a great day for her.. I'm sure she'll enjoy arriving home safe and sound. I will be seeing her in a mere four days, too, as I return home for Christmas on Thursday night. Anyway, I look forward to her calling me as soon as she gets home! I haven't really spoken with her since she left 10 days ago. I'm sure she'll have some good stories.

Time for breakfast. Have a great Sunday, everyone! Only 10 days remain until our favourite day of the year. Merry Christmas!

I have a few questions for all of you Christmas cookie bakers!

1. When do you start baking your Christmas cookies?
2. Do you put them out immediately or do you freeze them?
3. If you freeze them, how do you store them in the freezer? Freezer bags? Sealed containers?
4. How do you store your cookies to keep them fresh?
5. How do you store the cookies that you keep out for everyone to eat?

My mom and I usually bake the week before Christmas, so we never freeze our cookies. We put them in containers that have an air-tight seal. As for the cookies that we place out on the platter, we usually just cover them with saran wrap. We are looking for a new way to seal/cover those because people never cover them up good when they grab a cookie, which causes them to go stale quickly. The other cookies that we store never last long, either. We obviously spend a lot of time and effort baking so we're hoping there's a way to keep them fresh longer. We've tried storing them with bread and that helped slightly. We bake pizzelles and never have a problem with their freshness, but our sugar cookies and wine cookies like to get rock hard and stale fast!

While I'm at it...anyone know how to make your chocolate chip cookies stay fluffy? My mom and I have literally tried just about every tip out there, but they always flatten and fall when they are cooling!

Thanks!!

What is snow cream?

It's a sort of ice cream you make with snow. There are different ways to make it. The way I know, you take a big bowl of fresh, clean snow and combine it with sweetened condensed milk and a little vanilla. Mmmm … (I cheat, though. Instead of snow, I use shaved ice.)

I usually make cookies only for myself and Mr. I usually make them a weekend or two before Christmas, so I don't freeze them. I put them in cookie tins lined with wax paper or plastic bags, and they don't seem to go stale.

My mom used to make cookies a couple weeks ahead and freeze them in plastic containers with tight lids. They used to sell potato chips in large plastic containers, and she'd would save them and wash them out and use them to freeze Christmas cookies in!

As for chocolate chip cookies, I always have very good luck with them. I use the recipe on the back of the Nestle morsels bag and follow it exactly. Before they go in the oven, they should be little balls---don't flatten them at all. The recipe I use says you must let them cool on the cookie sheets for 2 minutes before removing them to a cooling rack, so try that if you haven't been doing it. Even if yours go flat, I'm sure they taste fine!

We got our snow last night---very pretty before we went to bed. In the wee hours the temp rose a few degrees and the snow got wet and heavy, so it was awful to shovel this morning. Now the temp has plummeted again, and everything wet is freezing.

Throughout the several years I've had it, my Christmas cactus has bloomed a couple blossoms at a time between Thanksgiving and Christmas. This year, for the first time, it set all its buds at the same time, and the entire plant is in bloom at once! It's a beautiful sight! The big poinsettia is holding up well too, so with the blooming cactus, the poinsettia, the Christmas tree, and the snow, it looks really seasonal here!

Wish there were more than 10 days left to enjoy it all … I have one more day off (tomorrow), then it's back to work until Christmas. Maybe I'll crochet some more ornaments between jobs, like I did last Thursday (at my supervisor's suggestion!). That was festive and fun, and seeing me make Christmas ornaments seemed to get my co-workers in the mood.

We are still getting the snow!

Hey Christmasstar, we are still getting the snow here in Montreal, it's to continue on till tomorrow. So far we have about 12 inches of the beautiful white stuff!

I haven't been around much for the past few weeks, I've been extremely busy preparing for a couple of dinner parties here, last night I prepped and cooked for 10 persons, with a server and an assistant with me in the kitchen. Some photos will be forth coming. Everthing turned out wonderful and delicious!

Oh by the way everybody........my cards have been sent, but I was disappointed that some of my "friends" were NOT on the list......boo hoo...

I have received some cards, but have NOT been to collect my cards as of yet with the exceptions of: Sabine,Made582,kgstyles, xmastidings, and Jayish!... Thank you all for the lovely cards, you all should have received mine by now.....I HOPE!

Now that it will not be so busy around here this week, I shall be on more often! Then from the 23rd of Dec - Dec 26th, I'm booked into a 5Star Boutique hotel for the holidays. I don't have family here......so by myself I shall be, but I will take in a Spa, and read a book or two....I hope......and just relax. It will be my first real holiday in over 5 years! I'm looking forward to it.

So that it's for now ya'll........have a great weekend.....talk with you all during the coming week!

Later......!

Good Sunday afternoon, my Christmas friends!

I haven't been here since the 11th...that's just crazy-talk! My computer at work still isn't fixed, and when I get home we get in the car and go somewhere...EVERY DAY. We went to Statesboro on Thursday night, Savannah on Friday, Savannah again yesterday, then to Statesboro last night. We just got back from church and we're getting ready to go to my mom's. Whew.

I did manage to put the city's new Nativity Scene out just a minute ago. I put it on the deck of our train depot (the depot has been restored for appearance only), then screwed eyebolts into the deck and used fishing string to anchor down the standing characters. The wind is just blowing too hard, and it cost too much to chance it.

I plan to check the pictures on the StealthCam this afternoon. It's been two weeks since we were out there. Surely it's spotted something cool since then.

I hope y'all have a great day! I plan to be back on the air tomorrow. cheesy

I'm glad to be back!

Hey Bradmac, good to hear from ya!!! I too have not been on MMC that often...but my heart is always there!!!

can U take a picture of the nativity scene? I love em!!!

Good idea, Track! It'll be tomorrow, though. We're at mom's right now, then we go to the church Christmas party.
