So, last night, as you all know, I am in my new house now, and it has an wood burning insert in the fireplace. It's a Quadra-fire voyager grand wood insert. I've never seen one or operated one before, so last night I decided to make a fire in it.

Well, lets just say my first attempt was not so good. I had the whole house filled up with smoke, the smoke detectors were going off, I had to open up all the doors, turn on all the exhaust fans, I had to get a fire extinguisher to put out the fire I had made. Oh boy, what a mess....:-?

So, not to be deterred, I grabbed the laptop, went to youtube, and did a search of "how to make a fire in a Quadra-Fire wood insert". I watched several video's and I decided to make a second attempt at it, and I was successful....

Oh wow, get this, after I had it warmed up, I turned the blowers on, and it heated up my whole entire house, to the point where I started peeling off clothes. My oil-fired furnace never ran once during the wind and snow event last night...

Hmmmmm, I may have to remember that one for a date night with my honey~:-D

Haha...love the story...and your idea for date night. If it works, give me the info about how I can install one of these fireplaces! :)

Okay, decided while I was at it, that everything should come down and to just get the blues out of the way all at once. So the tree just went back in it's box. Now I just have a few things to pack up in the bathroom and it will all be down.

Aww...I think this would really help your son as well! Let us know what you decide!

I heard from the shelter we are potentially adopting the dog from and we are going to meet with the foster parents this weekend, and bring Happy and Holly to make sure they all get along.

Happy isnt a mean dog but can get jealous at times...he's a big ol' shameful baby. :)

Sorry, friend. You know where to go if the blues get too bad!

Christmas is over and soon football will end. Man, I'm getting the blues now too!

The end of football means Nascar will be starting back up though!!!!!!!!

Oh man, what an adventure!

Glad you're ok, and that you enjoyed your fireplace!

How does it work exactly? I'm not familiar with one of them.

I wonder if this will work, here is a link to their web page. They have some nice videos of them, specifications and general info....

This is my first experience with it, and I like it. Of course, it was a little learning experience, but hey, lessoned learned and in the end, I only used 6 or 7 pieces of wood last night and it heated my entire house for at least 8-9 hours. In my old full brick open fireplace, I would use that much wood in one arm full, with most of the heat going up the chimney~

Now that was really cool yesterday and today! I was able to get out of here and get home in the nick of time, before the roads became bad.

The weather forecasters really was off track on this storm for my area. They originally said that the event was going to start as rain, and then slowly change over to snow around 6pm and then we will get 1-3" of snow. Oh no, we got all snow and it started before 3pm. We ended up getting between 6-8" of snow at my house and with the winds this morning around 40 mph, I had drifts at the house 18-20" deep.

Last night, however, for some dumb reason, my son's girlfriend decided she was going to drive from Baltimore to Westminster (in the snow) to visit. Needless to say, she got stuck, her phone battery died, and she ended up walking a mile to get to our house in the storm. She shows up, cold, wet shivering and we all had no idea she was coming. I asked her what was going thru her mind to do something that dumb, and she goes; "I thought it would be fun!". Hmmmm, I believe now she has a change of heart about that now....

Glad you made it home safely! Glad your son's girlfriend made it to your house safely, but hoping she learned, since that really isn't the safest thing to do!

The snow is winding down here, but the temps are hovering around 0F and it's windy, with wind chill temps well below zero. My office is closed today, and Mr. is working from home. (Thank heaven---I didn't want him out in the snow OR getting frostbite in this cold waiting for the commuter rail, which is notoriously unreliable in cold weather.) So happy we're both safe at home! We'll shovel later when the snow is done falling.

Our temps are supposed to fall below zero overnight, then rise this weekend to nearly 50F on Monday, then they are to take another nosedive following some rain. So it sounds like an ice-fest early next week. I'd rather have the snow.
Stay safe and warm...we are anticipating the coldest weather since 1996 on Monday and Tuesday- not loving that so much!

Good morning, friends~

It's currently -5 & snowing! ❄️⛄

We have a wind chill warning in effect. It's going to be windy & white out conditions as well. On Monday, our high is -15. Some cities nearby have already cancelled school.

Last night, we took down our Christmas village & a smaller tree. Today I will work on our big tree.

I can't seem to get rid of my cold. It was starting to improve last week, but then came back full force on NYE. Now it's more of a cold/body flu. Hope to also rest a lot today.
Harlowe has been such a sweetie, they know when you're not feeling well.

Happy Friday to you all!!

Have a blessed day!!

Hope you feel better soon, Snowflake!

Good Friday morning, my Christmas friends!

It's down in the mid-20's here in southeast Georgia today. That happens now and then, but it's still a shock. The wind was blowing so hard last night, I stayed up all night keeping watch. My pecan trees reach over the house, and the limbs are large enough to do a lot of damage if they fall. Not that I could have stopped it, but I couldn't rest thinking about it. Luckily, no damage this morning...except that there's not enough coffee to get me moving very fast.

I hope y'all have a great day! cheesy

Keep warm!!!!

I am glad to hear Mr. is working from home, it is brutally cold out there.

Good Friday everyone. The University of Oklahoma, my alma mater I may add, beat the Alabama Crimson Tide in convincing fashion last night. Okay, that's all the bragging I will do. I was shocked though! :)

Hope you all have a great day and weekend!

I don't follow much college football, but that is shocking. They were speaking hypothetically earlier this season and wondering if Alabama could beat the worst NFL team, because they were so good.

Congratulations!!!

We are doing well. We may be adding a new fur baby to the family! My son is having a difficult time since the tornado in May. He has had separation anxiety any time he is away from us. The doctor said so many kids in Moore are having a hard time coping with the event. Long story short, there is a dog that is trained that we may get to sleep in my son's room and just be his buddy. I think it would be great! I will keep you posted.

Feel better, friend!

That would be great for him to have a buddy like that.

The kids in town here are still dealing with the after affects of the June 2011 tornado that hit here. My wife has to calm a lot of them down if there is a thunderstorm or strange noises, the traumatic experience really hits kids hard.
