Christmas Countdown - 2014

Good morning, everyone!

Welcome to the first day of the Christmas Season! Sounds fantastic, doesn't it? Again, I had a wonderful time last night counting down in real time with some of my best friends. I don't know what made me smile more - the fact that the Christmas Season was a few hours, minutes, and seconds away, or the lovely banter and comedic timing amongst some of the posts. I use this word a lot, but I truly feel as if it best suits the Christmas Season for me. Prior to coming here, the Season always warmed my heart and brought a big smile to my face. Christmas made me appreciate the love and generousity that I have been surrounded by my entire life. Since coming here, Christmas has truly become "magical." There is no other words to describe. We all believe in the magic of Christmas and do our best to celebrate year-round, but when the time comes (today), we, indeed, make it the Most Wonderful Time of the Year.

In continuation, last night, I saw my first set of Christmas lights lit up on my drive home from the gym. As always, it made me smile, but I also thought of my grandmother who passed this year. For the rest of the short ride home, I shed a tear and marvelled in her accomplishments. This will be the first time in 101 Christmases that she will not be walking this earth. She may not have had the same love and appreciation for the Season as you or I, but to celebrate 100 Christmases is an incredible feat. While she may not be walking this earth, I'm sure that she will be around and helping me throughout the Season.

No work today, sadly. I am booked for tomorrow. Tonight, I will be seeing one of my favourite bands for the 27th time. Normally, I only listen to Christmas music as soon as the Season begins. I will have to make an exception tonight for these guys. I will be attending the concert with my friend Sean. He lives in Ottawa, too, but we went to high school together back in the Sault, although he is a few years older than me. We are both quite excited for the concert!

I am so excited about Christmas this year, can hardly wait until my daughter moves so I can decorate !
Precious memories, keep them close. That first Christmas is always bitter sweet.
I have the Christmas music cranked up, going to be on here for awhile, have some running around to do then back here to finish off the cake.

Good morning!!! Merry 1st day of the season!!! And Merry Friday Eve too!!! :-D

So the sight crashed for a bit shortly before midnight. I went up to bed, & my phone died...so I got out my kindle...I no more than got my "happy season" post sent at midnight & my kindle died! I guess it was my sign - time for everything & everyone to re-charge! LOL! Thanks for a fun & exciting night!!! Looking forward to spending the season with you all!

LOL, I was hopping from lap top to phone last night too trying desperately to get back a connection ! Woke my son with my loud "NO!!!" when it all went down. So glad we managed to re connect before midnight.

Good Morning, MMC!!!!!!! It's going to be another cold one here with a high in the mid 30's. Right now we are standing at 24 degree's. We may also see some flurries off and on over the next couple of days. Then they are saying that we way need to break out the shovels this weekend. Boo!!!!! The party wore me out last night and I crashed hard when I went to bed. It was my best night of sleep in a long time. Maybe we should all get together more often. LOL!!!! I want to run to the grocery store today before the Turkeys get all picked over. It's been weird to hear Xmas talk about dealing with all of those turkeys at work because the stores here haven't had them out yet. They all have them in their ads this morning though, so I'm assuming they finally put them out. Even thought it's only going to be the 4 of us, I was unsuccessful in the bid for doing a smaller meal. Everyone wants lots of leftovers to eat on over the next week. So I guess I'm still going to be cooking a 20 some pound turkey. I also have a few other errands to run while I'm out. I hope everyone is having a GREAT DAY!!!!!!!!

I'm sorry I couldn't stay up last night to ring in the season. I'm such a lightweight.

Elizabeth woke up after her first night with the braces, and she says it hurt badly. I cooked her breakfast and we got her some Tylenol. Bless her heart!

It's supposed to get pretty cold way down here tomorrow, too! Looking forward to that!

I wouldn't have been here for the season either, if it wouldn't have been my night off. I had to drink a lot of coffee to stay awake!!!

Poor Elizabeth - I remember anytime too, whenever I got my braces adjusted, I usually had to take Motrin or Tylenol. I was so used to that happening, I took it before my appointment, usually an hour or so before.

how much do turkeys cost in your corner of the globe? I got mine for $.77 a pound this year which is a really good price for here.

Well, there you have it, my dear Friends. The long journey is complete.
Christmas Season 2014 has arrived right on schedule and in style, thanks to the talents of our Special Posters and last night's fantastic Cyber Season party.
(Wasn't that great!)

But, the count goes on!
Days to Thanksgiving: 14 (TWO Weeks from today!)
Days to Christmas Day: 42 (Seven weeks from this date!)

Yes, Folks, the Season has DEPTH.
Fifty days to enjoy, starting today and running through January 1.
So this is not the end, it is the begining!



A personal note:

As my past becomes longer than my future, I look more sentimentally at Christmas and its wonderful feeling.
I look for it in the music and the holiday decorations.
I search for it in written passages.
I seek it in the faces of my remaining loves ones.
And I yearn for an articulate way to express it.
Not easy.

Us oldsters remember the old Honeymooners television series.
In my effort to find the best description of the feeling of the Christmas Season, I don't believe I've come across a better one than that expressed by Jackie Gleason's character Ralph Kramden. It it, he sums it all up beautifully.

What are your plans for today? Both of the kids are at school, so DH and I are going to head out and run some errands. I have to go and order my dress for my SIL's wedding that is Mother's Day Weekend this coming year. We're also going to run to the mall and do a couple of things.

When the kids come home from school today, Elfie, our Elf on the Shelf, will be at our house, for the season, from the North Pole. I can't wait! The kids will be excited too!

A Thursday hello to all! (This time it's REALLY Thursday.)

I'll be going back through last night's posts as time permits. I was there in spirit, but in reality I was spending the evening with my Mr. (as I was able to leave the office at 5 p.m. yesterday! cheesy ) getting caught up with him and relaxing, and getting some much-needed sleep. I work today, but Adrian is taking me to lunch, so looking forward to that.
It is rather chilly here, so we are going to one of my favorite places, Grizzly's. It has lodge decor and a huge cobblestone fireplace that we sit near. Cozy!
