Kind of sad but you are very right. I have worked with wonderful folks who would have bent over backwards for me, and I for them, but I have also worked with others that would get mad if you called in sick, but then they were the same ones that would always call in and expect you to have no problem (which I never did, until they got an attitude if I called in myself!) but yeah you have to look out for you, because no one else will unfortunately!

My experience, too. It is unfortunate!

They get mad of you call in, and put them out, but also get mad if you come in & spread your germs/infect them. Sometimes you can't win

An icy Good Morning, from chilly central NC where sleet fell extensively during the night.

(I ain't going nowhere!)



At least we have the count to keep us warm:

Days to Christmas Day: 311



And what really warms the heart is the fact that the 300-day Christmas Day Milestone will be down to SINGLE DIGITS away the day after tomorrow!

(Well, that may not melt the ice but I do feel a bit warmer.)





As stated, sleet fell overnight but fortunately, the predicted freezing rain did not develop so we had no power loss.

It should move above the freezing mark today with some sun by afternoon.

(And we will need it to help with some melting before single digit temps arrive tomorrow evening!)

We have 23 degrees here, currently.

This is a problem too. In some states all workers get benefits but in some(and what I encountered in college) they will work you 39.5 hours a week then call that parttime in an effort to avoid paying benefits such as insurance and sick time. I wish every state in the US had the same benefit laws.

Well I just walked out side and it is 26F but the wind chill has to be in the negative zero!! I am not use to such cold! there is still a coating of sleet on the ground and it is rock hard too, so we are staying off the roads today, I am still trying to get moving, but yesterday tired us both out. I sure am feeling 40 today!

Good evening everyone. I survived the trip through the city and my daughter is back home safe & sound. It's been a long day and I need to get some sleep now. I'll catch up here tomorrow. We passed the Freedom Tower today, just thought I'd share this picture. I was overwhelmed by emotion. I must go back and visit the 9/11 memorial & museum now that it's open.

That really is something to see. I'd love to visit the memorial, too, but it's too far from here.

I just noticed that you're in Long Island. Our plant is manufacturing more poles to be delivered to PSE&G - LIPA as we speak. It really is a small world!

I love Apollo 13, it is one of the few movies that makes me cry. Home Alone also makes me cry, when the "South Bend Shovel Slayer" is seen hugging his family in the end. Gets me every time.

Me too!!! When you first think of Home Alone you think of a movie full of goofiness but the ending brings me to tears. Same with, Christmas with the Kranks, I get choked up every time at the end of the movie.

We went to the 9/11 Memorial the first year it opened, the museum was not opened at the time. We got very emotional too! When we were in New York this past December we wanted to go to the museum but just ran out of time. I hope you are enjoying yourself!

I was watching the finale of the apprentice and then I dozed off and did not see who won! I saw the tribute to joan rivers and that was touching! I am guessing leeza gibbons won though. am I right anyone? In any case I am going to turn in we have been on the road about 7 hours today, and we have a busy day ahead of hiking and mountain climbing!Goodnight dear friends! stay warm!

This was the first year I followed the Apprentice. Several episodes back I had predicted a showdown between Geraldo and Leeza with Leeza winning - yes, she won! (Not sure if someone else already answered this question or not).

why do I feel so guilty for calling in sick ?

You sound like me! I HATE calling in sick. I am very lucky that I work with people that are like family, very compassionate people. There are times that they make the decision for me to not come in even though I insist I feel better but they worry about me and tell me to rest. Even when they do that I still feel guilty!!! When I went to the doctor early January and was diagnosed with the flu I still kept thinking I could come in the next day but the doctor already had a note for me not to go in. Silly me! Of course I couldn't come in or everyone would catch it!

You need to work with me at my job. My bosses have great compassion for their workers. I just love them all to pieces!!! The bonus side of it, you get to work with animals and customers bringing all their dogs in. =)

It doesn't look like we are going to get any snow after all - haven't seen any here all winter. Boooo!!! Mother Nature needs to get her priorities straight! Balance the snow out all over, not slam the north with too much and leave us dry!!! Gimme some snow!:give:

It looks like Wayne and I just keep tossing a cold back and forth. Now Wayne woke up this morning sniffly and coughing. He is not real bad off but I pray it don't get worse!

its only -19c (-2f) this morning , so much better than the -43c we were having!

I hate colds, I don't want to but think I will be calling in sick for today. It is only a 4 hour shift, but I feel lousy even after taking something.

It is snowing here, we have a few inches on the ground already. I have to check if the girls classes are cancelled or delayed. And I need to get outside soon to clean my car off. Sophia & Rosie are scheduled to be spayed today so I need to drop them off. I can't feed them this morning, they're all looking at me right now. I feel so bad. Anyway, not too much else going on for me. I have a lot of laundry to do today, I was out of the house for quite some time yesterday and it has piled up. My husband stopped at the Verizon store last night and got me a new iPhone. He felt bad that my daughter used my upgrade so he got me one anyway. I have to download all of my apps today and play around with it. That's about it for me. I'll pop back in later. I hope everyone has a nice day!

Good Tuesday morning, my Christmas friends!

I delivered our sofa & loveseat to my cousin and her husband yesterday afternoon. Our new furniture won't arrive until tomorrow, but rain was predicted for today, so I had to make the move early. I sat on the family room floor for about 30 minutes last night, then finally gave up and watched TV in the bedroom. I'm too old to sit on the floor; my old back won't take it!

Jim is determined to crank the Camaro this week, even though we don't have a windshield, or exhaust, or any of the interior done...or even tires! LOL He was working on it late last night, but I couldn't stay to help. I plan to record the first crank and post it on Youtube, to save it for posterity.
