So, on the Christmas countdown forum it is stated that the season starts on November 13, I believe.

When do you all think Halloween season begins? Can we settle in a date!?

What about the Sept 19th? That is 6 weeks from Halloween.

I would say late August/early September for sure. For me, it always officially starts when I see that first definitive sign of Halloween come about, which usually happens in those weeks, somebody is always starting early. Usually it is a catalogue delivered to the house, but sometimes it's a fully decorated store front, or I see a dedicated Halloween section of a store and/or the beginning stages of a Halloween store going up, I might even catch (yes, I admit) the dedicated Halloween QVC and home shopping programs that start running at that time. Certainly by mid September you start seeing more television, movies, and advertisements geared towards Halloween, pumpkin patches starting up, and decorations being placed all over, which by that point there is no question the season has come. But prior to that it all depends on what you make of it.

I want to move to an area that has a more Autumn feel by late summer so I can embrace the Halloween season even earlier and moreso. I live in Los Angeles now where its usually pretty hot, so sometimes on a blistering September (for that matter Oct, Nov, Dec, Jan) day it's not always conducive to being in the mood for the season.

I agree!

I used to get so bummed at how fast the Halloween season and Fall went, so I started decorating at the beginning of September, to really enjoy it as much as possible.

Same here. And just visiting all the stores as they start putting everything out just to be surrounded by the whole feel and environment.

Also, AMC and ABC Family really need to take a page out of Syfy Channel's book and do a whole 31 days of Halloween programming. Fearfest and 13 Nights go by way too fast, by the time it is already over I still feel like it had just started. Syfy even does "Countdown to 31 Days of Halloween" programming that starts mid September, which is basically the same thing as the 31 Days, making it a whole month and half of dedicated Halloween programming. There should be more of that.

That is very cool!! Must pay better attention to Syfy's schedule this year. Thanks for the reminder.

I always have AMC's Fearfest on, love it.

I love going to stores when it's still warm outside, and having that excitement to see the first shelves of Fall & Halloween! Most of my lunch breaks are spent that way. We have a shopping center that has all of them in one area, so it's nice to run in & see what's new.

I was kind of thinking that. When do the Halloween stores usually open up?

Around here, the Halloween specialty/novelty stores usually open up the first week of September...

Halloween decorations/candy usually start to appear in more mainstream stores (like Walmart/Walgreens) in late August.

Someone else suggested 6 weeks before Halloween (Sept. 19th) and that's probably a good bet. Christmas stuff starts arriving in stores in September/October, but we don't kick off the "season" till Nov. 13th (I go by Nov. 12th, myself). :-)

So yeah, Halloween stuff can start appearing in August, but September 19th does sound about right.

My area is the same way to an extent; September is pretty dang warm. Early October is too. Late October can go either way.
