TGIF, my Christmas friends!
What a busy weekend we have in store! Tomorrow is Bellville's Tom T. Hall Appreciation Day. For those who have never heard of him, Tom T. Hall is a (now retired) country singer/songwriter from the 60's & 70's, when he was a superstar. Anyway, back in the early 70's, when the school that my kids attend was first opening, they had several fund-raising concerts, and Tom T. Hall was booked to play. Before his show started, he walked over to the train depot (the same one across the road from Bernie's store) and was moved to write the song "God Came Through Bellville, GA". It wasn't a smash hit, but it was on his biggest album, "Country Is".
We've decided to dedicate a plaque on the depot in his honor, I've already signed the resolution declaring tomorrow as "Tom T. Hall Day", and we're having an art exhibit. Then later that evening we're having a huge pancake & sausage dinner, and live music. It should be fun!
Here's the song, if you're interested:
We invited him to attend the celebration as the guest of honor, but he said his health won't allow him to travel. He recorded a 10 minute note of appreciation that we'll play during the dedication, and we're sending him a second plaque. I'm looking forward to my last official function as mayor.
I hope y'all have a great day!
