How much snow do you normally get in NC?
Unfortunately only about 18" a year where we live. Some years a lot more, others not so much. I've traveled a lot for work. One of my favorite places is Winnipeg, Canada. They have great winter weather.

Thank you! They are in flight again! Should be at the airport in about 1 hr 15 Minutes & at Moms house in 2 hrs. 45 min! Always good to see them! I'm not sure about our plans of homemade pizza's on the grill, & a bonfire tonight b/c of the weather...might have to come up with plan B!
Hope that the weather holds out for you guys!

.....I am certainly looking forward to our first 'Pines day of the Christmas Season! There may not be a Christmas Tree just yet - something about Thanksgiving... wasn't that last month?! :p .... but at least we're all in the Spirit of the Season!
Quite so. Carl likes to take his seasons in order and the 'Pines is now decorated in Thanksgiving splendor in anticipation of next Wednesday's pre-Thanksgiving celebration.

Now you have me wanting to read those books! LOL

I remember you shared the recipe with me!! And I tried making them once - unfortunately I made them in little pans & I over-baked them! :( And then I had them in the fridge in wine soaked cloth, but I let the cloth dry out a couple times!! The flavor was still amazing, but I want to try again - NOT over-baking & being better about setting reminders to keep the cloths moist!!! It was a fun project though!
My mom always said that I could open my own place called "Charcoal" since when I used to cook something that's how it came out. At least I was consistent.

So happy that you tried the recipe!
My parents baked the fruitcakes in full-size springform pans. They kept the cloths moist by wrapping the cloth-covered cakes tightly in foil before putting them in the fridge. And I think they put a cup or pan with some water in it on the oven rack below the cakes while they were baking.

Thanks! It's pretty ugly out there! But at least their flight landed. My brother picked them up! :)

I will have to try the recipe again! I never thought of making them in a spring form pan!

Have a magical day HMG! Hope all your thanksgiving plans are going well.

Thanks Festive!
The Thanksgiving plans are going well, I'm right on track. Can't believe it's one week away, I'm so excited!

Thank you!
I was SO tickled to see that picture. See, it's a full-page illustration, and my mom wanted to trace the picture for a Sunday school class she was teaching, so she outlined it in heavy pencil in my copy. I hadn't seen the un-penciled picture since I was a preschooler! I darn near teared up. Now I'm fired up to try to find my copy, if I still have it.

I really hope you find your copy MerryCarey (((hugs)))

P.S. If I find my copy, I'll tell you what the little angel is saying at that point. Something about his star not being the brightest or the best, but he loves it.

Wait, I found the page online!

I'm glad your T-day plans are right on track! With my nephews wedding this coming weekend we have hardly talked about Thanksgiving yet. And with my in-laws moving into a new house, their family isn't talking much either. First things first I guess! ;)
Thank you!

Well enough to get by on my own :)...but I still go over to eat at her place a few times a week. She only lives a few minutes away and doesn't mind cooking for her "adult" children. :)
That's awesome! Can't beat that! :D

I can't blame Carl at all. I, for one, do not mind another Thanksgiving celebration! In terms of this evening, I am sure that Carl has some top-notch entertainment for tonight.
