Some have central air conditioning, which works like heating---you just set a thermostat and the cooling is delivered by multiple vents throughout the house. Lacking that, you either have a built-into-the-wall air conditioner that stays in year-round (in the wintertime, the part that sticks into the outdoors is covered with a tight, weatherproof cover; many apartment buildings around here have one in each unit), or you have one or more A/Cs that can be mounted in a window during the summer and removed for storage during the winter. That's what we have. It's a hassle, but it beats sweating through the summer (especially at night) without cooling. Our window unit even has a timer---we can set it to turn on an hour or so before we get home from work, so we don't have the expense of running it all day.Yes I guess I am lucky in that sense. It always sounds so amusing to me to hear you guys talk about putting in and taking out your air con as I didn't realise you could do that![]()
