Some have central air conditioning, which works like heating---you just set a thermostat and the cooling is delivered by multiple vents throughout the house. Lacking that, you either have a built-into-the-wall air conditioner that stays in year-round (in the wintertime, the part that sticks into the outdoors is covered with a tight, weatherproof cover; many apartment buildings around here have one in each unit), or you have one or more A/Cs that can be mounted in a window during the summer and removed for storage during the winter. That's what we have. It's a hassle, but it beats sweating through the summer (especially at night) without cooling. Our window unit even has a timer---we can set it to turn on an hour or so before we get home from work, so we don't have the expense of running it all day.

I remember when I was a kid and we didn't have a timer there would be nights I'd fall asleep and wake up freezing. Meant to leave it on an hour or 2 and it wound up running 10 hours straight.

Interesting. Businesses and shops here have the built in ones. This is the one I am familiar with. My mother has the built in ones too. If you get those high temps then I can't imagine not having one!

Headed to the orthopedic surgeon with my aunt for her follow up-I hope it goes well. Being a caretaker is exhausting and I'm hoping she can really get some good news and get back on her feet again soon (she broke her leg in two places and dislocated her ankle back in early March).

Can't wait to get back-we're a chatty bunch here today and I'm so glad I'm able to chat since I'm not at work today! :)

It's always nice to have chatty peeps here though the day!! Makes the day at work go fast. I'm fortunate I'm able to keep MMC pulled up at work (in the background...lol)

It was so hard to come back from lunch. Gracie was loving being outside & so was her mama! Perfect weather! :) We are supposed to have 90's for the weekend though. Whew!

We didn't have central A/C for about 15 years, so we used a combination of fans to keep air moving through out the house. There were only a few hours each weekend day that were tough, this way.

I understand. Sometimes you just have to make do. I have lived in hot climates abroad without any air con so I agree it is possible :) Houses here don't have AC. I am using fans for our current heat wave (70s F) We don't get as hot as you all over there.

We have central air but we have a separate unit upstairs in the bedroom. The central air doesn't cool upstairs enough for sleeping. Ours is simple - no in & out of the window...there is just a tube that fits in the window, the unit sits on the floor. Can also be used as a dehumidifier in the basement if needed. Works well! :)

We have a central unit, but I miss hearing the window unit running at night. That thing would lull me right to sleep.

I didn't get around to tidying the garden but tomorrow I will. My headache kept coming and going. It's not too bad now but I have been taking pain relief.

We got news this evening that Mr Festive's uncle lost his battle to cancer. Bill was a funny guy and will be missed.

Have fun in the garden tomorrow. Jim did some weeding last night in our garden. It won't take long though & they'll be back!
