And, what time do you usually stop trick or treating? Do you get many trick or treaters? What types of candies or treats are you handing out? Have you ever received or handed out anything other than candy?

this is our first halloween in Texas and apparently they don't celebrate Halloween here. We've been told not to expect any trick or treaters. My in laws don't get any trick or treaters in their neighborhoods either. It's really strange. In NY it's a big deal, everyone decorates and everyone tricks or treats...
We're nervous about where our kids are going to get candy...if no one trciks or treats, we don't know where to go...
We're hoping christmas is better here.

I guess it depends on where you are. I am from Texas and I get tons of kids at my house but my mother who lives nearby gets just a few kids. Our neighborhood goes all out with decorating and start decorating as early as late September. I hope you get a good turnout!

We start getting trick-or-treaters as early as 6:30 and they keep coming until 9:30 pm. I even get teenagers up to 16 years old which I don't mind a bit! I am glad they are still enjoying it and I feel you are never too old to trick or treat, I wish I could get by with it!

We get quite a bit or trick-or-treaters. The neighborhood next to ours hardly gets any. One of our neighbors has their yard decorated all spooky so it brings in a lot of people. We usually pass out blow-pops, nerds, starbursts & different candies like that.

They usually start coming around 6 and stop coming around 9. We just came in the house because we ran out of candy we had so many people. I can hear all the kids screaming from our neighbors house, it's so funny how scared everyone gets.

we

We go at 6:30 to 7:30 and we generally get between 40-60 kids a year......this year we had 42...
=)
I buy lots of hlloween toy gooides and make halloween goody bags for the kids......

The town here sets the hours at 6 to 9 for trick or treating. We usually get the younger kids first and then the older kids closer to the end. My sister always hands out a bag with a chocolate bar in it and a few other little pieces of candy. She also gets the little bags of animal crackers for the really young kids. I leave out a big bowl of suckers at my apartment. We don't usaually get any kids here but sometimes my neighors grandkids come over so I make sure there is candy left out for them.

Very few children under 13 in my neighborhood here in Ohio, so I can afford to be generous. I bought DVDs of old horror movie double features, at Walgreens, for $1.50 each. And a bunch of pencils with bats, vampires, or jack-o'-lanterns on the eraser end. And bags of roasted peanuts.

TOT time was 6–8 p.m. on Hallowe'en, a period that was mostly after sunset. For which I'm grateful — some cities have put it in the middle of a Sunday afternoon, which takes all the spooky out of it.

We head out at 5:30 pm because of the little one we have. Plus my dh had to work at 8. We don't get many...this year we got 5 kids so I just give them a fistful of chocolate bars.

We left around 6pm. it was so nice lastnight.

Around our neck of the woods we start getting Trick r Treaters around about 5pm till around 8-30pm...We get an average of 50-70 kids depending on the weather off-course and also what day Halloween lands on...:)

Same here Prancer. And despite it being tradition to have Halloween on October 31, I personally wish they would just celebrate it on the last Saturday of October every year. It just seems better when it's on a weekend (especially for the kids).

Totally agree with yeah Edge...Our numbers drop if its on a school day:)

We normally start around 4:30 or 5 and end around 8 or 9 depending on what day it falls. I live in a small town so we usually only get 20 or so kids at the most.

I don't know about you but I'm ready to start trick or treating now in April...can't we do a halfway to Halloween trick or treat?

We start getting trick or treaters when it goes dark so from around 5pm or thereabouts. This year it is on a school night so we may go a bit earlier like around 6pm. We don't stay out long as I only take them around the neighbourhood.

Actually, it's the first time going trick or treating on a school night with the kids. They are usually off that week in October for mid term break but this year they will be having the week before off.

I love traditions and understand October 31 has always been Halloween but I don't get why we can't just change it to the last Saturday in October. Would it really matter if Halloween fell on October 28? I mean kids (and adults) would be able to enjoy the day more on a Saturday!

I demand for it to be a public Holiday with no work or school on the 31st LOL !
:D :D

This would be our town. Starts with a parade & then trick or treating - I think it's from 1-3 on the Sunday before Halloween, or on Halloween if it falls on Sunday!
