With all that went on in my world in 2016, I am, unusually glad that we have entered a new year and am happy to have all things 2016 behind me, alas, including Christmas. My Mom passed away in September. With her, passed traditions and feelings that have accompanied my Christmases for 53 years. New ones will develop and old ones may pop back in but the world is different now. I'm looking forward to Christmas 2017 with a little more excitement because 2016 was somewhat tempered. And so onward I say! 315, I can live with that. My goal is to have a little bit of Christmas in every one of those days! Happy New Year to all!

Jay

Happy New Year, Jayish

I hear you. When my dad passed away some things changed around Christmas...and same when my grams passed away in 2009 but new traditions came about and also we kept some of the traditions we had with them alive and going cause that's what they want.

I hope everyone has a great day. It's rainy here which is fitting for the mood we are all in. I have work tonight and am off tomorrow and wednesday and will hopefully try to relax but I think I will be helping family with some cleaning and sorting of things and hoping no toys get given to us for Carolina.

Good afternoon,

"On the eighth day of Christmas..."

I am struggling today, PCB's have me bad. I think it is because the vacation I look forward to more than anything every year is slowly coming to an end, and with it my children, and wife along with myself are heading back to real life. I will admit my kids drive me nuts, but I love being home with them and this time I cherish during the holidays.
I will probably be in a few more times today, just going to try to spend as much time with family as possible.

Enjoy the day

Christmas 2017, I can't wait; please take me there right now.
I hear you. But I don't think we are ready for Christmas 2017 quite yet...and if we get there too soon we'll be back here in January again wishing we could go back to it. This is a tough month because we're torn between holding on to the last Christmas yet looking forward to the next one yet being very far away from it...

I know the feeling, I miss the joyful holiday feeling too.
I should know by now but somehow I don't know if it's I "forget" how amazing it is but every year it comes, hits me and I know it's coming...I know it's awesome and yet somehow it exceeds my expectations and how special I think it's going to feel by a lot. I'm just wondering how I remember or keep it better this year so that when it comes I fully understand how amazing it's going to be.

I was just telling my friend how spoiled we are from Thanksgiving to New Years. I get so many days off compared to the rest of the year and I'm so thankful for those days to spend with my family and celebrate my favorite holidays and traditions with them. It's a long haul now but I think we'll be ok once we get back into our normal routines...just going to try to do a better job this year myself of keeping my mind a little more on Christmas throughout the year while enjoying the different things we celebrate through the year.

Morning MMC! 1st Weekday of 2017 is luckily a day off for me. I have been spoiled since November with so much time off. But I guess that's just another reason to love the holiday season isn't it? After today I will only have a few paid holidays till believe it or not Thanksgiving lol. But I fortunately saved over 3 weeks of vacation days plus will gain another 3 weeks throughout 2017 so technically I could take over 30 PTO days this year (which I won't cause I will save a decent amount going into next year). But plenty of long weekends throughout the year and I'm thinking the 1st one I want to take is the day after the Superbowl. Anyway, for now in January we have the NFL playoffs and the leftover Christmas lights to enjoy. Have a great Monday!
Whoo Hoo Superbowl is the first milestone in our house lol
Mr Festive has booked the monday after off work too. It broadcasts here late with the time difference !

Hello, and what a great forum this is! I had no idea such a place existed with so many like minded Xmas junkies. lol I've really enjoyed reading the posts and relating to so much of what's been said. It's made the transition back to normalcy a little more bearable. Thanks for all the great posts and look forward to the site.

Welcome to the Countdown and MMC!
We are all Christmas lovers here, and I myself joined in the midst of feeling down and out after a holiday season nearly 7 years ago. This place is great and helpful when it comes to everyday stuff too, not just Christmas.
Hope to see you around the boards.

I feel that way too the spoiled feelings of the holiday season. Now I don't know if I will have back to back days off again until my February vacation, that is one of the toughest things for me is the infrequency of consecutive days off. A few years ago I went from February until July without 2 days off in a row, but the schedule process is better now.

Lol...I say that every year. But then I figure I would miss out on buying Jan/Feb clearance Christmas deco. My CIJ party weekend..etc. But I realize I am different than alot of people here, I only like Thanksgiving as another holiday. I could do without the rest honestly. It will be here sometimes quicker than we want sometimes.

I hear you. I have had at least 4 days off in a row for Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years...and honestly as of tomorrow till Thanksgiving I will probably have that many days off in a row 1 or 2 times at most till Thanksgiving again (mostly by choice I spread my days around more) but that's what makes the holidays even more special to me is that extended time off.

Absolutely Festive. It's "over" but here a lot of people still have lights on outside through the 1st half of January...and even some through late January (including me and my tree).

I had to do some errands this morning and driving around town there are an abundance of homes that are still fully decorated with lights, Santas, trees, Rudolphs, yard animals, yard ornaments, etc. I know that Disneyland is doing their holiday celebration through Jan 8th, so I'll probably trek down there a couple of times this week. And with today being the official federal holiday and the last day of Christmas break for most people, with the Rose Bowl on later, as far is I'm concerned it's still the Holidays. Once I go back to work on Friday that will pretty much be the end of it, since my work week is Fri-Tue I won't have another day off until next Wednesday. So I'll use that first full work week to pack everything up. But pretty much until Thursday this week I'm gona remain in full holiday mode, just re-watching all my DVRs, listening to music, and enjoying my decorations.
