Thanks for the welcome, and I've noticed that going through older posts. What a cool place considering all the vitriol normally found on the internet. A great place to talk about love for Christmas.
I haven't had a chance to catch up much around here but I wanted to say "welcome"! This is an awesome place to be! Wonderful folks!!!!!

We are all very supportive of each other here, we are very much a closely knit Internet family that has never met each other. :)

Its miserable to have to work a holiday. We used to pull patrols on holidays and I would have to explain to the guys why we were getting shot at on Christmas or Thanksgiving etc. But it doesnt matter what your job is..most people dont want to be there so its just a soul sucking day for everybody working.
It is miserable, and I feel for the servicemen and women who are away from their families, I cannot imagine how that would feel. I appreciate what they do. Thank you.

Thank you to doctors, nurses, police, and firemen and women, and all the other necessary utilities that work the holidays.

Good Evening ... We have packed up most of our Christmas. Still have our bedroom and DH's man cave to finish. Got all the snowman decorations up so it doesn't look and feel as blah ... however I still need to add something to the corner where the tree was. Well my Christmas Vacation is over .. its back to work tomorrow... These 2 weeks went by way to fast. Is it me or does to seem like Christmas goes by faster as you get older? I just want Jan to Aug to go by fast and then the rest of the year can slow down :)

Have a great night!

Hello, and what a great forum this is! I had no idea such a place existed with so many like minded Xmas junkies. lol I've really enjoyed reading the posts and relating to so much of what's been said. It's made the transition back to normalcy a little more bearable. Thanks for all the great posts and look forward to the site.

Hello and welcome to the Countdown, SydneyBeems!

Listening to the Charlie Brown Christmas soundtrack while watching the Rose Bowl. It's pretty overcast and cold outside. As I'm winding down my holiday season this seems all so appropriate.

One of my favorites!

Hope everyone had a cool New Year's Eve. God knows Mariah didn't ..... Yabba!

That, my friend, is best described as "train wreck."

The four of us grilled pimento cheese-stuffed burgers with tater tots, and made some appetizers I found on Facebook. It was great!

Pimento cheese on burgers? OH MY GOSH.....please tell me more! That sounds phenomenal.

With all that went on in my world in 2016, I am, unusually glad that we have entered a new year and am happy to have all things 2016 behind me, alas, including Christmas. My Mom passed away in September. With her, passed traditions and feelings that have accompanied my Christmases for 53 years. New ones will develop and old ones may pop back in but the world is different now. I'm looking forward to Christmas 2017 with a little more excitement because 2016 was somewhat tempered. And so onward I say! 315, I can live with that. My goal is to have a little bit of Christmas in every one of those days! Happy New Year to all!

Jay

Jay, I'm terribly sorry about your mother. I had no clue. Thoughts and prayers....

Whew! What a day! Rainy and 65! Two more days...it will be 28. I hate Arkansas weather.

315 days?? Crap!!!! Well, by the time school is out we will be under 200 and by the time school starts back...we will be under 100 (until the season). I'm not missing Christmas, yet.....just going to enjoy some downtime this weekend and relax. No going out or going shopping...just laying around.

My neighbors, who have a beautiful Christmas display, took their's down today. We have about 15 houses on our street...and only two of us decorated. It was a little disappointing, but just seems that is a tradition that is going away....not a lot of people do that here....is that just in my part of the world?

One of the people in town here has an incredible display, he had it down on the 26th this year. It was kind of shocking since we have gone in the past to the week after Christmas to see it. I haven't left the house since NYE so I don't know what the Christmas light count looks like at this point. I think also with the "extra" day off with New Years being on the weekend, people took advantage of it and took stuff down.

Good evening,

The time is short, vacation has been wonderful, Christmas didn't disappoint.
Heading back to work tomorrow will be tough, but it is just one day then a day off. I do have one more family Christmas celebration left this Saturday, which is also my birthday.
I thank you all for being here, this place is the best, I look forward to celebrating the rest of the year with you.
Goodnight, everyone

And so it begins...
I shared on Facebook it is 51 weeks until Christmas, one of my friends is complaining that I posted it.
Will I stop sharing? Nope!
I am a proud Christmas nut!
My uncle already posted the other day like 360 days till Christmas...he's told me several times recently that he thinks Christmas is the best time of year. Should tell him to join MMC!

I actually saw the opposite happen this holiday season and had a theory of mine proven that weather really does have an impact on people's holiday spirit. I live in the Los Angeles area, and for the last several years the weather throughout Nov and Dec was pretty indistinguishable from summer time. Not even kidding, I mean actual hot days throughout Nov and Dec. It was sad for somebody who loves Christmas. I remember distinctly even lamenting to people during the past few Decembers in a very Charlie Brown like fashion that it's hard to get into the holidays simply because it's so warm and bright and sunny out. So much so that it's become a major reason why I ultimately want to move out of this area to one that has a more wintery climate this time of year. And when I looked around during the past few holiday seasons and saw the utter lack of decorations and overall lack of Christmas cheer anywhere and everywhere I went, I wondered if it was a sign of the times and that traditions have just withered away, or if more people were like me and just found it hard to get into it because of the weather. Anyways, this season was completely different. A real cold front came through in mid November that stuck around through all of December and is continuing on into January. It brought rainy days, overcast days, wind, and cold nippy air even when it was sunny. I noticed early on, even before Thanksgiving weekend, that there were a lot more houses than usual with lights and decorations up. Once Thanksgiving weekend came even more homes put up displays. And certainly by the first and second weekends of December there were just multitudes more houses with lights on than there have been in previous years. I mean big full displays of lights, Santas, reindeer and yard animals, yard signs, yard ornaments, trees, anything you can think of. Not just the obligatory strand of lights on the roof or fence or a bush that you normally see on a few homes here and there. I saw a big twenty foot blowup Merry Sithmas Santa Darth Vader on one person's lawn. It was great. I took a drive around town this morning and you would hardly know Christmas was over if you didn't know any better, there are that many houses with their displays still up. That's not normal here. Even our local tree lots closed up shop a week before Christmas because they were all sold out. I drove by there several nights on my way home from work and their lots were just packed each time. I'm glad I bought my three trees early. When you went out shopping or to do any number of things you could just feel it in the air and see it in people's faces that everyone was just way more into it than they have been in recent years. So in a lot of ways this holiday season has kind of restored my faith in people that Christmas isn't completely lost and that there's still plenty to be had. At least as far as my observations go over the past five years that I've been paying attention and that my own love for the holidays has reignited in my adult life.
