Good morning MMC ~
It's going to be mostly cloudy today with temperatures in the upper 70's. Today is my birthday. I'm hanging on to this one as long as I can, big Milestone B-day next year. My parents are coming over to visit, we'll be having lunch together. I'll be going out for dinner later this evening with my husband and the girls. I just need to decide where I want to go. Yay for getting a break from cooking! I hope everyone is well and has a great day!

Happy Bday! Next year is a milestone one for me too so I'm trying to enjoy the last year of my 30s.

Good Morning, Friends.

Well, we have made it!
No, not to Christmas or to another Milestone, but we HAVE made it to SINGLE DIGITS to the next marker!
Read below for further information.

In the meantime, here is today's data:
Days to the Season: 109
Days to Christmas Day: 151

And that first number above makes it clear, in no uncertain terms, that we are a scant 9 days off from the 100-DAY SEASON WINDOW and the start of a DOUBLE DIGIT count to the Season!
(As such, we are single digits away from double digits, if that makes sense.)


A bit cooler with lower humidity here yesterday.
(And believe me, we will take every little "bit" we can.)
Today will see the temps back up again, but not to any great extent.
We are currently stationed at 76 degrees here in the capital city of the great state of North Carolina.

Good morning, my Christmas friends. I sit here, drinking coffee, and reading mmc from my home computer. Yes, we arrived last night around 7:00. Smooth ride home, but the worst landing you could imagine. I think the pilot was trying to see how hard he could touch the wheels down. Honestly, it felt like we blew a tire or something. Speaking of tires, when we got to my truck....I had a flat. Before we got to come home, I had to change it. Let me tell you....the heat and humidity in Memphis is so much worse than Florida.

Yesterday, we went to a place called Disney Springs and went to their Christmas shop. They were celebrating Christmas in July, so I was pretty stoked.

Today, we start the last leg of our 10 year anniversary celebration. We are about to drive to St. Louis to go see my all-time favorite rock band, Guns N' Roses.

As I finally have some quiet time to myself, I am able to reflect on how close we are to the season...109 days!!!! Wow!!! As soon as school starts, it seems to all become a blur for me! Birthdays, shopping, Halloween, shopping, Thanksgiving, shopping, cooking, the Bers....they are all coming really fast. As usual, I can't wait!

Well, I gotta go pack my bags! Y'all have a great day. I will see you Friday or Saturday morning.

Just got back from football practice. It was Henry's first full practice. This week is all conditioning, so lots of running. But we did some teaching of positions and such today too. Henry had a blast! He hung in there and caught up on the things he missed the other day.The other coach told him he did a good job today and that he wants him to be a running back. Henry is now even more excited. I am glad he enjoys it!

I know summer is coming to a close when football starts up.
A couple of my friend's sons play it as well and love it!
Happy to hear it went well and it nice when you see kids enjoying it.

Last night when we dropped off my girls to my in-laws. My MIL told me she was at the mall and they were playing Christmas music. She said they played about 3 songs in a row. I think everyone is getting into CIJ..lol
Just work for me today and my husband and I are going to a new Mexican place for dinner.

Happy Thursday!
CIJ seems to have really kicked off a wave of Christmas enthusiasm here! (Not that Christmas enthusiasm needs much encouraging here!) I'm still playing Christmas music in the car and figuring out what Christmas projects to work on this weekend. The dreary, cloudy, wet weather is back (maybe throughout the weekend ), so maybe that's getting me stoked to work on festive things.

We had a nice time last night celebrating Emma! I haven't seen mom laugh so hard in a long time! Here's all the senior citizens toasting Emma....

Makes me laugh!!! Emma had a good time too! It was a beautiful night on Moms deck!

Not much going on today - just work - planning to make the brine for my turkey at lunch. One party over, time to plan for the next!

Morning MMC! If I closed my eyes yesterday and didn't know what date it was I would have sworn it was in September. The sun was shining bright, temps in the mid 70s, low humidity and just a gentle slight breeze. It didn't feel like summer. Today we expect the humidity to come up a little but nothing too terrible. Other than that, who is starting to think about their weekend? Told my coworkers I need to work 5 day weeks again cause I can't remember what day of the week it is this summer. Have a great Friday EVE!

Sounds like your weather is a day behind us - we had that weather Mon/Tues - humidity was back late yesterday! But for the next 4 days our highs are only 76, 74, 75, & 79! Strange weather!

I just buy the Reynolds oven bags. I cooked it at normal temp for a 350°. I always keep on the lookout for wood. I have a neighbor that will save me his pear tree limbs when he prunes. Local apple orchard just tells me to hit their junk pile in the back.

I just happened to remember that I forgot to mention that I brine my turkeys before I smoke em and always use a rub even with the maple syrup. Easy brine is boil 1 gallon of water 1 cup of kosher salt, dissolve salt and I added 1 cup of syrup to brine. Let cool. I put my turkey in a chest that will just fit em. Pour cooled brine on turkey add enough cold water to cover it and then I dump 2 bags of ice in it. Let it sit for 14 hours. You dont have to ice if you can fit cooler in a fridge.

Sounds like we're using about the same recipe:

Maple Turkey Brine Recipe: 1 gallons water, 1 cup of kosher salt (coarse), 12 oz of real maple syrup, 2 TBS of Rub

After brined...

1. Pour the maple syrup all over the turkey.
2. Sprinkle rub all over the turkey

I'm excited to try this!!

Hope you & your hubby have a great time tonight! Speaking of margarita's, (Mexican & margarita's go hand in hand, right?) my sister brought 1800 Margarita's last night to Moms. (Emma loves her margarita's) - I didn't have any, but they all said it was delicious. My sis said that's the only brand she buys anymore. Might have to look into that - I had never heard of it!
