I'd like to know the history of Christmas cookies

That's the thing about Christmas. Some of the foods are so rooted in tradition, they don't change much.

How did that whole thing start?

Christmas cookies come from little leftover pieces of dough made from the chef making cakes

I'm working on the 2nd part of the Victorian Christmas

And we get into a little bit on foods

Kings used to have elaborate parties and the chefs made towering cakes

I found an article from 1810 that talked about cookies, if you can believe that

Oh yes, the foods were an epic part of the gluttony of Christmas back in those times

 

[GWarren]

They would save pieces and leave them by the hearth, those are the precursor to our cookie

 

[Jeff Westover]

Is there a period of time in foods that is a favorite for you?

 

[GWarren]

If you go back far enough, you can trace the cookie back to 7th century Persia

 

[GWarren]

I actually love the medeival period. They experimented so much with food.

I guess if we're being honest, food aren't just a shared passion for us now, it has been for all time
