Jeff, you're right. The actual book is so rich, so funny, so heartwarming. Adaptations don't quite do it justice.
 
Every time I read it I see something knew and I read it just about every year.
 
I gained a lot more appreciation for it after reading "The Annotated Christmas Carol," with copious notes explaining historical, literary, and other references.

I always appreciate readings when I learn the customs and culture of the time.
 
Some year, a communal read-a-thon of "A Christmas Carol" might be cool. Or it might be overkill.
