Good Thursday morning to all! I'm at work early today. Glutton for punishment I guess? hah. I'm going to be having a talk with my boss. I feel like I'm in a dead end position. My last contract, HP, that I was on I had no problems moving up. This contract, Dell, however I cant get anywhere but the bottom of the barrel. I have been working for the company come 7 years August. I have so much knowledge, I went to college for Computer Science in 1999. I know my stuff and I don't feel challenged. Maybe I'm just having a bad week? Oh well who knows. Countdown is coming along nicely! I read William the Charlie Brown Christmas book this morning. Well I'm going to finish my breakfast and get everything ready to talk to my customers who break their computers hehe. Have a great day all!

For want of a better name, I entitled my email "Legalization of Pot" because I could not remember and could not find the original email regarding this subject.

I never have and never will do, smoke or whatever pot. I am a child of the 50s and 60s. I was in 8th grade when Kennedy was elected, graduated in 1965 from high school, and graduated college in 1969. I never considered doing pot--I knew what I wanted in life, and I went after it. I was TOTALLY opposed to pot and all drugs. My mom developed cancer in the 1970s, and it came back BIG TIME in the early 1990s. Her pain and nausea were tremendous. Hospice made sure she was as comfortable as she could be with morphine until the very end. My sister had cancer. Then my dad developed cancer. Several years passed. Marijuana was proven to help cancer patients control nausea so they could eat and hold down the food they ate. I still did not waver in my attitude toward drugs. I continued to hear about cancer patients and the use of marijuana to help curtail the nausea and to allow them to hold down their food instead of throwing up so much. Then in 2007, my son was diagnosed with leukemia. I saw the devastation that this disease wreaked in his body. I saw the pain he went through. I saw the nausea and vomiting he endured, way beyond what any of us endure with a stomach virus. Then I saw what happened when he was emaciated and finally gave in and took pot as prescribed. It was not a cureall, but he was able to finally able to keep food down and actually survive. He still has tremendous pain in his feet and has to walk with a cane. He still has tremendous spells with nausea. NEVER would I have voted for the legalization of pot until I saw what my son went through. Now, I will. I am WAY OVER 60 years old.

AND I also want you to understand, that until I had been so personally affected, I, too, would vote against the legalization of marijuana. NOW, I ALSO want you to understand that I am NOT trying to change your mind, but please be mindful: What if it were to happen to you?

Please do not think that you need to respond. Just think. Change only when and if you need to.

Amazing how our life's experiences and pain work together to form our view of different issues.
I am against the legalization of pot, but not against its use for medical reasons.

Good morning, Christmas friends. It is bright, sunny, and dry here in northern California. Today is my husband's retirement luncheon that will be held at our favorite, family-owned Mexican restaurant. After that, I will head out to the doctor for an appointment. I really appreciate all your comments and good thoughts about my ramblings last night. I love being a part of such a caring, non-judgmental group. No one even booed my post about the maple bacon coffee! Not even Count who is definitely a tea drinker! But like s/he said, Carl probably deserves all the credit! I hope y'all have a great day.

Have fun! And family owned restaurants are usually so much better and you get better service for sure! In my little town I live in I go to a family owned Thai restuarant and the Father is the cook the Mother is the hostess and they all come out and talk to me and ask how I have been doing,and the daughter plays Chopin on the piano the whole time I am there because they know that I love his etudes! can't get service like that at a national chain that's for sure!:snowball:
And congrats on your husbands retirement!!!

It's lunch time and I am deciding between warmed over lasagna that I brought or a co-workers bbq chicken he offered. I think chicken wins. I am staying later today to get things ready for my absence here for 3 weeks...I think I am going to pull a 12 hour day today and tomorrow, so I will not be around probably the next several days in fact the next time I talk to you guys I may be in Massachusetts!

Seawaters, thank you so much for your post. I am so sorry your son has been so ill.

It is funny isn't it how when something affects us personally we are ready to consider different opinions/options ?? I guess that is the way of being human. I have faced many times myself when I have had to change my mind about things in a way I never thought I would. If something can help a person who is so ill then I am for it. May God bless your family and your son and congrats on your husband's retirement ! xo

Agreed with this. I've always been unwaveringly pro-life in the abortion debate, but my younger brother has an autoimmune disorder called lupus. It has caused him much trouble during his life, including arthritis. Five years ago it caused his kidney to fail, and I had to give him one of mine.

His doctor (and medical publications) has said that embryonic stem cell research holds the key to the most promising treatment options. As a pro-life Christian, I believe that life begins at conception, and the idea of harvesting embryos to extract their stems cells is appalling to me. But during his bad times, I almost wish it would happen as long as no one told me about it. Sort of a "bury my head in the sand" approach to getting around my convictions, but when a family member is in pain, it's sometimes hard to be steadfast.

I know it's not the same. In Seawaters' case, medicinal marijuana is an obvious OK, even though I don't agree with across-the-board legalization.

About to call it a day. It's been a hectic day, but the conference call this morning was not as confrontational as I expected, so I call it a win!

I've been helping my daughter build a volcano for a school science project. We used a tall glass on a board for the center of the volcano, then sprayed that expanding foam stuff around the glass, tapering it like a volcano. Then she painted it yesterday. Today she's going to put little trees and rocks around it. Tomorrow is D-Day. We have some baking soda & vinegar, and red food coloring. We are also mixing in some dishwashing liquid to make the "lava" thick so it'll run slowly.

THAT'S my kind of homework!

Just as long as we don't hear on the 6 o'clock news about a disaster in, Bellville, GA. regarding a homemade volcano then all will be good. :wink:

How very awesome of you to give up a kidney to save his life! I am so sorry he is going through this and will keep him in prayer.
 
Good evening, Christmas friends. My husband's retirement luncheon was marvelous. Fifty people showed up and the food was fantastic. He received a cash gift, a plaque signed by everyone, and his personnel file. Two people even came from Idaho! I was almost too sleepy to go to the doctor, but the trip to Chico was not bad. I hope y'all have a great evening.
