Ugh, AWFUL news story from a few towns over. 9 year old girl murdered. What a scary world we live in. I can't even read the details. It makes me just want to hold my kids tight and never let them go.

We're watching A Charlie Brown Christmas to try to get my mind off this. I am praying her parents can find some peace someday. They have a suspect in custody. Ugh.
I hate hearing those kinds of stories. There is still a story that sticks in my mind that happened here a few years ago involving a little boy being killed by his mother's boyfriend. It was how it happened that bothers me the most and I had a very difficult time sleeping for days after the news was broke. It sometimes still wakes me in the middle of the night when I think about it. I will not go into details but it was disturbing.

Kids are so precious and some people are just SICK!

Now I think I better watch A Charlie Brown Christmas to get my mind off it!
Kandice learned how to ride her bike....without those aids on the side of the backtire.....she was so proud, I can telll ya....and I was mighty proud too
Fantastic!!!!!!!

Good Afternoon Everyone!!!!!! It is a warm and humid day here in central Indy. We just went under a severe thunderstorm watch so I am hoping it rains soon to help cool it down. I spent most of the morning helping my neighbor pack his van for a trip to his son's house. He is going to stay there for a couple of month's so I won't have anyone to sit out on the porch with for awhile. I should spend the rest of the day doing laundry but I really don't want to heat up the apartment anymore by running the dryer. So I may just put it off until this weekend when we are supposed to be back down in the 60's. I hope everyone is having a GREAT DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I cut the lawn today and in between that....Kandice learned how to ride her bike....without those aids on the side of the backtire.....she was so proud, I can telll ya....and I was mighty proud too

Congratulations to Kandice!!!!!!! My niece refuses to ride her bike without the training wheels. We have been trying to teach her for 2 years and she just won't do it.

If I had to guess I would say that they are going to do a schedule like last year. They started it at 11pm on Friday and went through Sunday. Saturday they focused on decorations and then Sunday was more focused on gift ideas.

Hey, ya'll.

I'm sorry, I don't want to be a downer, but I wanted to say a few words about my best friend.

I found this morning that my old labrador, Ben, had passed away during the night last night. He had just turned 15 years old, and he had to walk around slowly, but he was always happy. I only wish I could have been there for him as he left, just to comfort him. I owed him that much.

I feel guilty because I've been so busy, I didn't spend much time with him lately. He was always a good boy and a good friend. He loved to hunt with me, and when he was younger he caught the frisbee a thousand times. He walked with me every step I took outside, and was never mad at me for not having as much time for him.

There was some discussion lately about whether or not pets have souls and go to Heaven. I have no doubts that Ben had a wonderful, beautiful soul, and is at this moment running and jumping and chasing birds. I can't imagine that any pet who has the capacity to love someone as much as Ben obviously loved me, lacked a soul and the ability to shrug off the pains and infirmities of old age and live forever in happiness.

I'll miss my old friend dearly. I have to believe he's now happy and young, and waiting to see me again. You've been a good boy, Big Ben, and I love you.

Awe...this makes me really sad!!! :( My "puppy" is 15! Sorry for your loss! He's been part of your family for a long time & that's hard when they have to go!

Lastly, and ending on a bit of a nervous note, please send good thoughts to my dad. Tomorrow I am going with him to a surgical consult, as he found out this past week that his carotid artery is 90-95% blocked. He doesn't seem nervous about it and told me not to worry, but I'm having a hard time keeping myself together. If he has to do the surgery, I will be even more scared...but I just want him to be okay. He is a huge jokester though and a seeming eternal optimist...so I'm trying to be lighthearted about it, at least until the consult tomorrow!!

I hope everything went/goes very well at the appointment today! My Dad had carotid artery sugery done, probably about 10 years ago - after he had a stroke. And it was super scary! But it all went fine! I hope your Dad doesn't have to have surgery, but if he does I hope it goes as well for him as it did for my Dad! Good luck! Prayers going up!

I agree!!!!! We just hit 80 degrees here today and I hate it. I am trying to resit the urge to turn the a/c. I know it will be on tomorrow because they are calling for temps near 90. :-?
It was 93 just a moment ago here. Whew.

Unthinkable that someone could be so sick, cruel & heartless! :(

Do you think we'll get THREE days of Christmas in July??? Sat, Sun, and Mon (since Mon is the 25??)

Let's hope so!!!! :merry:

Brad,

Thanks so much for posting this. I've missed the discussion here about souls of animals but let me just put my vote in the yes column -- as in, all dogs go to heaven. I'm not sure about cats yet, but dogs for sure.

Ben looks every bit the loyal friend you describe.

The value these animals bring to our lives cannot be adequately described. Not only will God redeem them, I feel, but also we will be held accountable for our stewardship over them. I feel that down to my bones.

My boy Sam is getting a little long in the tooth. He's still a pup at heart and sometimes such a big baby. But he's been loyal, fun, protective and so loving. I have slept many nights, on the road thousands of miles away from my family, and thanked God first for Sam who stood watch first and foremost while I was gone.

Yes, Ben went to heaven. All God's creations do.

My condolences, my friend.

Jeff
Thanks for that, Jeff.

And I agree: the jury is still out on cats.

(Just kidding, for all you cat-lovers out there.)

Just what Made is thinking. I sure hope so!!!!!!

When Wayne and I got together he said he wasn't a "cat" person but he never had one. He changed his mind once we got together and got a cat. Charlie the cat has quite a personality! He is about 5 or 6 years old. Charlie really loves Wayne and "talks" to him all the time. It is really sweet to watch a cat talk, "meow meow"!

We have since adopted, Gary. He is a cool cat as well.

Sometimes I find Wayne on the front porch visiting with the stray cats that hang outside our house.

They have an awesome personality!

I think Wayne is a cat person now!

Brad, you might become one someday. He he!
(p.s. I know you were kidding.)
