Good afternoon,

My new power adapter finally came in so I am back to my favorite place in the cyberworld! My vacation has been going very well, nice and relaxing. We were suppose to take the boys to Six Flags today but Mother Nature made us change our plans. We will go in a few weeks instead. I did go see Transformers 3 yesterday with the guys, IMO it was an awesome movie lots of action, it is the first movie I have seen in 3D, and that was so cool. My boys love Transformers but I would love for them to see it, but at their ages I couldn't in my right mind let them see it with the violence and naughty language. We picked up the Wii from Layaway also, so the first gift of the season is picked up and hidden until Dec. 25.
I have missed being here most of the week, but I should be in for a daily visit now.

Have a great rest of the day!

Hi every one :)

I hope every one is well! :) last night I went to a concert of Bright Eyes. Bright Eyes is not that famous here, but I have been a fan for lots and lots of years, from the years i was a teenager. It was absolutely amazing, since he was singing all the songs I have loved over these years, as if he had asked me beforehand... it was really special.

I don't know if all of you know Bright Eyes, I have been told he is pretty famous in America. Anyway I wanted to share this song with you, since I hope every one of you has had this kind of first day of their lives... ( I also like the reactions shown in the video! :) )

All of you have a great weekend!

The kids and I are having a Christmas in July cookout!

I got the grill fired up and I let the kids make their own veggie packs wrapped in foil. They are had fun adding veggies and putting their own seasonings on it. We also have beans, hot dogs, hot links and veggie burgers for me. The veggies are cooking right now and we will cook the rest of it shortly.

The kids are so excited and keep saying, "Christmas is almost here"!
What a great idea! :rudolph:

I have to leave for a couple hours for a funeral visitation. One of my longtime friends' father passed away a couple days ago. The big problem is that my friend has bipolar disorder, and is currently in a manic phase. He'd done a few things that landed him in jail for a few weeks. His family asked me not to bail him out because his condition leads him to drinking heavily. We're afraid he'd hurt himself or someone else. While he was in jail, his father passed away (the sheriff allowed him to leave the jail temporarily to visit his father in the hospital). Since then, another friend of his bailed him out. I'm worried what his reaction to me will be, since I didn't bail him out after he left several messages on my machine asking me to. I guess we'll see.
It seems strange to quote myself, but I wanted to update what happened.

Long story short, my friend was much better than he was the last time I saw him. He apologized for his behavior and was deeply embarrassed by it. I really hate that he has to go through this. Anyway, we had a good conversation and everything is much better. That really makes me feel better. He was always a good friend to me whenever I needed one.

Ok, for anyone having trouble getting their kids to eat veggies...

As I mentioned I let the kids put together their own veggie packs wrapped in foil and season it themselves. They put cabbage, broccoli, potatoes, onions and seasoning. I drizzled it with olive oil. Then I let them do a foil pack of pinto and kidney beans mixed together. We put it on the grill for awhile until tender. I opened up the foil packs and they are eating right out of it and liking ALL THE VEGGIES!

I usually have a hard time to get them to eat vegetables but I guess since they made it themselves it's yummy.

Ok, guys. Time to blow this popcicle stand!

I hope you all have a great weekend! cheesy

I used to do that with my kids and they loved making thier own vegies that way!

Congrats on something that can sometimes be difficult! I bet you are very proud of him!

My 3 year old is now trained, only wears pullups at night, we tried training him sooner but he wasn't ready at that time. He basically did it on his own when he was ready, and is doing a great job, no accidents in about 1.5 months.
He will do it when he is ready.

Bradmac,
Here's some info I received:

Massive Cheating Scandal Rocks Atlanta Public Schools.

A great deal of media attention was focused on the widening cheating scandal in Atlanta's public school system, much of it outraged in tone. Under the headline "America's Biggest Teacher And Principal Cheating Scandal Unfolds In Atlanta," the Christian Science Monitor (7/6, Jonsson) reports that Gov. Nathan Deal (R) announced on Tuesday that some "178 named teachers and principals" had allegedly perpetrated "what's likely the biggest cheating scandal in US history." Noting that 82 of the alleged individuals have "confessed," the Monitor adds that the charges "point an ongoing problem for US education, which has developed an ever-increasing dependence on standardized tests." The Monitor describes the deleterious impact the scandal has on the image of outgoing Superintendent Beverly Hall, "who was named US Superintendent of the Year in 2009 largely because of the school system's reported gains." In describing how the story relates to the debate over NCLB, the Monitor quotes Education Secretary Arne Duncan's recent criticisms of the law.
The AP (7/6, Turner) that according to the state's report, Hall "knew about cheating allegations on standardized tests but either ignored them or tried to hide them." Moreover, despite reports from a number of educators of systemic cheating, "Hall and other administrators ignored those and sometimes retaliated against whistleblowers." The reports states that fears over the cheating issue created "a 'culture of fear, intimidation and retaliation' in the school district."
The CBS Evening News (7/5, story 2, 3:15, Pelley) also covers the "massive cheating scandal in Atlanta's public schools. It matters far beyond that city because the alleged cheating involved the same sort of standardized tests used all over the country." The piece notes that some 80% of the schools investigated were implicated by the "scathing" report which detailed "a decade of systemic cheating...by the adults." The piece shows Deal vowing that "there will be consequences." CBS notes that the motive for the cheating was to feign progress on standardized testing, and shows former ED official Diane Ravitch saying, "We have a terrible federal law called No Child Left Behind that says that all schools have to have 100% of their students proficient in reading and math by the year 2014 or their schools will be closed down." The segment indicates that "tampering with a state exam in Georgia is a potential felony punishable by up to ten years in prison." CBS News (7/6, Strassmann) also has a text version of this story on its website.
Education Week (7/6, Samuels) adds that state officials say the report says that the cheating "led to thousands of children being denied the remedial education they were entitled to," and that "the cheating dated back to at least 2001. The 48,000-student Atlanta district has been under a cloud for the past two years, ever since an Atlanta Journal-Constitution analysis found improbably high results on the state's Criterion-Referenced Competency Tests, or CRCT," which are used to monitor NCLB progress. The piece notes that under Hall, who was honored by the American Association of School Administrators as "superintendent of the year" in 2009, the district investigated reports of potential cheating, but "then-Gov. Sonny Perdue called the district's own investigation 'woefully inadequate' and appointed an independent investigator."

Seawaters-
I have something else we can discuss. Indiana is ending it's requirement that cursive be taught to students. Instead they are requiring typing be taught. What do you think?

I had to take typing in junior high so I don't know why they just don't require both. I will admit that my handwriting is terrible though. My mom always said that I should have been a doctor.

xmas - Jude is just nearly daytime PT, too! We just started 3 days ago but he's doing great.. he wasn't ready prior, either! Woo hoo for no diapers (well - less! Still have a 10 month old in diaps!)

I say teach both! I use a wonderful cursive program called Handwriting Without Tears. It is so easy, and my students have great cursive handwriting.

Good Saturday morning, my Christmas friends!

I'm once again posting from Bernie's Store in downtown, metropolitan, Bellville, GA! It's already hot and sticky. It's overcast with 100% humidity and smoky. The Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge has been burning (wildfire) for weeks, and even though it's 100 miles away from here, the smoke around here is awful!

But things go on! I'm still trying to finish the crazy deck on the pool, and a couple nights ago one of my prized pecan trees lost a HUGE limb. Its so big I can't deal with it with my little chain saw. I guess I have to call a tree surgeon. Money, money, money. Grrrrr.

Oh well. At least it's Saturday, right? And today is my little brother's birthday!

I hope you all have a great day! cheesy

Good Morning MMC !
