If I have time, tomorrow I will teach those of you with children a math lesson that might help with the dreaded word problems. Stay tuned!!!

I have always been a night owl. My mom says that I was the only 4 year old that use to go around saying "Here's Johnny".

Come to think of it, I think I am twice your age!! I remember when Johnny was one of the only programs in color!! Man, does that date me! My sister had a color TV and that is one of the reasons I would babysit for her. But I was much younger and could stay up later!

hmmm, that old?!
I can remember when dad got our first color TV, exciting times!

Good evening, everyone. I felt better today after PT than I have felt in a long time. I am on the mend!!! Dinner was great. I opted for a whole bowl of clam chowder which was terrific. I also had half a carafe of Chardonnay! What's not to like?
glad to hear you are feeling better and eating well!

Good morning, MMC!

Busy day ahead of me - cleaning and figuring out where to put the lamps that need to be fixed. There are a lot of them waiting for various parts - once fixed, we can sell them in the store. I had best get going - it will be too hot to do much in a few hours.

Have a great day!!!!!!!!!

lamps take up so much room, hopefully all your parts come in soon and you can get them sold!

It is warming up here real fast too and I have to bake all day!

Word Problem help:

You find the labels (nouns) and you look to see if the labels are the same or really different. If the labels are ALL the same, then you will either add or subtract. If the labels are different, you will either multiply or divide. Now, division has what the researcher calls a D2: If the labels are the SAME on top and different on bottom, then you know it will be a division problem as well. They also have to look for clue words in the story problem and circle and underline (circle numbers ~ underline labels). Students write CW above any clue words. This is what it looks like when they show their work:

(CW) CW
Sheila had 4 apples. Brian had 9 apples. How many apples do they in all? (CW)

4 apples
9 apples
____________
? apples

**All labels are the same & your clue word tells us IN All; therefore, we will add to solve. This is also how you would set up a subtraction problem ~ of course, your clue words are different.

(CW) (CW)
Sheila and her 4 friends have 30 apples to share equally. How many apples
will Sheila and each of her friends receive?

4 friends + Sheila = 5 friends

30 apples

__________

? apples
**The labels are different; therefore, I know I'm going to multiply or
divide. The clue word tells me EACH friend will receive. So, I now, this will be a division problem since they are sharing them equally.

Multiplication labels will also look like the above example....

**Division 2 looks like this: same label
same label
____________
different label

never mind the kids, being rotten at math I am always open to learn more if I can!
