Good morning, Christmas friends. It is slightly cool this morning, but we are headed for some heat later in the day. I still have lots to do in my classroom. I am trying to purge and organize as I go along, so it will take forever. The new principal was there yesterday and she came into my classroom and said she received a call from our superintendent asking if I would like to teach high school English. I promptly said, "No!" I have already worked hard to plan my year and even have lesson plans done for the whole year in reading and most of the year in math. Plus, I am in the process of moving and could not move a second time in one month!!! Talk to y'all later this evening after Mass. Have a great day, everyone.

Christmasstar, I forgot to add the following to the math word problem info:

I will caution that this strategy ONLY works for single-step story problems. That is why I still have my students draw pictures or use other strategies ~ They will more than likely need to use a different strategy for multistep problems.

never mind the kids, being rotten at math I am always open to learn more if I can!

Word Problem help:

You find the labels (nouns) and you look to see if the labels are the same or really different. If the labels are ALL the same, then you will either add or subtract. If the labels are different, you will either multiply or divide. Now, division has what the researcher calls a D2: If the labels are the SAME on top and different on bottom, then you know it will be a division problem as well. They also have to look for clue words in the story problem and circle and underline (circle numbers ~ underline labels). Students write CW above any clue words. This is what it looks like when they show their work:

(CW) CW
Sheila had 4 apples. Brian had 9 apples. How many apples do they in all? (CW)

4 apples
9 apples
____________
? apples

**All labels are the same & your clue word tells us IN All; therefore, we will add to solve. This is also how you would set up a subtraction problem ~ of course, your clue words are different.

(CW) (CW)
Sheila and her 4 friends have 30 apples to share equally. How many apples
will Sheila and each of her friends receive?

4 friends + Sheila = 5 friends

30 apples

__________

? apples
**The labels are different; therefore, I know I'm going to multiply or
divide. The clue word tells me EACH friend will receive. So, I now, this will be a division problem since they are sharing them equally.

Multiplication labels will also look like the above example....

**Division 2 looks like this: same label
same label
____________
different label
alright, a lesson in Greek!!!!
wait, were you not going to teach math?:-D

I am hopeless when it comes to these kind of problems! I have a calculator, weight conversion tables etc and still have to call my daughter to help! (she is a math major)
Good thing I can use a computer or my cakes might not turn out so good!

Good Morning MMC !

Well, my house is almost clean again, just in time to make a mess as I bake!
I have a possible job at a tea room, my resume will be a tray of petite fours that the owner will taste test. If she likes them, I will have my very first job ever in a real bakery!

Good Weekend Morning, Everyone!
Ready to relax a bit and enjoy a nice cool one of Sweet Southern Iced Tea while reading our ever more exciting count?

Well, let's take a look at it, shall we?
Days to the Season: 106
Days to Christmas Day: 148
Gee! UNDER a week off now from the 100-day Season Milestone!

Gasp! Double Gasp! No -- make that TRIPLE gasp! For yet another day of triple-digit temperatures.
We hit 104 yesterday with no telling how high a heat index. It was QUITE humid so it must have been a lofty figure.
We will hit close to 100 again today with about a 50/50 chance of rain this afternoon.
(I am so ready for fall!)

You have a Sensational Saturday, Friends.
And a Wonderous Weekend to boot.

Good morning, Christmas family !!!

It is a bright and sunny day here in N.E. Oh !!

Today we have a wedding to go to. I LOVE weddings plus we never get invited to go ANYWHERE !! So It should be a nice day.

Everyone seems to be doing fine. Wes apparantly has an infection he is taking antibiotics for but he sees is doc on monday. Wish is doing good at least for now as are Clancy, Ivy, Smokey and the baby, Lily !! Lily now weighs 3.5 pounds and is growing like a weed !!

She seems to have formed a real attachment to her "mommy". Everytime I sit at the PC to work Lily gets up in my lap and puts her arms around my tummy and goes to sleep.....xo !! It is so adorable.

I hope everyone has a special Saturday !! xo

Take care Christmas family (((HUGS))))

:busy:

PS: Does anyone think my new signature is a bit much,or is it okay ?? I loved it when I found it !

Good morning! Hot as you know what outside, but that makes it all the better to play in! Heading out to work in the yard and play around, but I'm putting some water in the freezer so it will be good and cold when the time comes....

See yall later this afternoon or tomorrow morning for coffee, but eitherway, I hope you have a fabulous Saturday!

we keep 2 liter bottles of filtered water in the freezer, use them in coolers when going on a picnic, or shopping for perishables. When they thaw, we can drink it! Or we just put them back in the freezer for next time.
