Happy Milestone Day!!!!

Happy Rudolph Day!!!

Hey! I think we set an attendence record at the Shispering Pines yesterday.
I could tell by all the posts that lots were planning on stopping by.
Good thing too for those lucky ones since Carl unexpectedly doubled the freebies to TWO Fired Twinkies/Twinklings and TWO glasses of Iced Tea/Questionable Coffee.
Anyway, a good time was had by all.

OK. Weekend Eve tomorrow!
Y'all have a Thrillin' Thursday, y'heah?
I know I had a great time even when worrying about the storms where my kids are.
Now to go for a walk to wear off those extra Twinkies!!

Good morning, Christmas friends. Another hot one on slate for today. If any of you missed QVC, just back a few pages and read the commentary by Binger and Made. They are hilarious!!! It really makes my day! Hope everyone had a Merry Christmas kind of day!

I was listening to a local sports radio station here during my lunch today. They were talking about the Rangers and Red Sox game from the night before. Well the host of the show (Randy Galloway) made the comment that Marco Scutaro is a small guy but had a big hit during the game. He compared him in size to Brenda Lee. Well the younger co hosts of the show didn't know who Brenda Lee is, and one of them said that he just lost everybody under 70. Well I texted into the show that Brenda Lee sings Rockin Around The Christmas Tree. And when they came back from commercial they were playing that song and Galloway thanked me for texting that in. So I got a radio station to play a Christmas song in August, even if it was just a little bit of it.:tree:

Good for you! Mr. works with a guy who never heard of Jimmy Cagney ... that makes me tremble.

Just stopping ny to say Hi.

East coast has Irene passed yet? Ill go check the news later.

She's expected in New England Sunday afternoon/night, preceded by heavy rain on Saturday. South of us they get it a day or two sooner. It's making me nervous---it's most of what we're getting on the news, and I haven't been through a hurricane before. (I experienced my first earthquake this week, though, so it's the week for new experiences.)

Good morning everyone hope you all had a great night... So, what is this pines thing everyone is "talking" about???

Weather looks like it will start to turn for us late Saturday maybe into the evening. It is going to effect the South Shore of Long Island more so then the North, which for me is good as I live on the North Shore, but I have a lot of friends on the South Shore. We will have to put up safety precautions in effect at the job site, we have already started.

Ahhhhh - Thirsty Thursday! Milestone Day! Rudolph Day! So much excitement I can't hardly stand it!! :???:

So I chopped jalapeno's last night! My hands hurt so bad for 1 1/2 hrs after - it was crazy! And I wore gloves!!! I have a feeling this might be a HOT batch!!

I hope everyone stays safe from the hurricane!!

Make it a great day!

Well, here it is Rudolph Day again! I'm doing some shopping after work today, but unfortunately not for Christmas. I need to get some canned goods just in case this hurricane turns really ugly. I didn't realize how low my stock had gotten; we've been eating fresh produce all summer. Hi ho! Off to BJ's to spend all my money!

When I went shopping a few weeks ago, I bought some dip as I had a coupon and it was free. Today I decided to do a little experiment. Instead of cheddar muffins, I made Swiss cheese muffins and used the dip in place of sour cream. They look all right and smell yummy! Need to get my taste testers here to let me know what they think. Now I have two loaves of buttermilk dill bread in the oven. It cools off and I go into bake mode

I "like" on my facebook page, Santa Claus, Indiana. They asked the question:

Only 4 months until Christmas... are you ready?! We are!

Most of the answers have an angry, "no"! Wow! Why do they even bother liking the page? They have to expect Christmas type questions.

I answered it with an enthusiastic, "I am ready"!!!!!!!!!!!

Good Milestone/Rudolph Day Morning MMC!!!!!!!!! It is going to be a little cooler today here in central Indy with a high of 84. I stayed up until 8am and then I had to take a nap. Now I am up and at it again. I don't really care for the toy shows on qvc so I am catching up on the news right now. (okay I just flipped over to qvc and the creepy guy who films his kids at night is back on so back to the news for me) I also have some work to do today. It looks like the fans me and carl set up last night didn't help push Irene further out to sea. It may have actually helped bring it in closer. My prayers are with all of you on east coast. I hope everyone is having a GREAT DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good for you!!! I am not on facebook, I just don't get into that, but I am glad you wrote that you are ready!!! :celebrate:

Now that sounds yummy!!! Last night I made Egg & Cheese Muffins so I had breakfast to go!!! They are so good!!! Over the weekend I made a Lemon Meringue Pie, and some Meringue Cookies, they are so light and yummy!!!
Baking / Cooking to me is so relaxing I love to create something that people around me can enjoy, there is nothing like the feeling I get from it.:celebrate: Come and get it!!!!

Good morning, Christmas friends! Hope everyone is having a happy & safe Thursday so far!!
Is anyone finding anything they're interested in on QVC's Joy Of Christmas?
I've always wondered about the Bethlehem lights..
It's really hot here, 112 today, hoping the clouds roll in for some relief. The AC just died in our car, so it'll be a long ride home from work this afternoon  Have an excellent rest of the day!

Good morning everyone hope you all had a great night... So, what is this pines thing everyone is "talking" about???

Here's a copy of something Crown posted earlier in the year to help explain that!

OK.
I'll try to review the history of some of the more -- well -- interesting characters and places mentioned here in our countdown thread.

First, of course, there is Carl.
Ah, Carl! Our 3-humped Coffee Camel.
Born about 5 years ago over at Christmas.com, he came about as part of the long-running interplay between Binger and myself in regards to coffee vs sleep.
(Carl's third hump stored the finest blend of coffee which der Bingster coveted.)

Originally, Carl lived with me and was a frequent over-the-shoulder commentator when I posted the daily count.
After a time, he began staying with willing thread contributors who agreed to be his host for short visits. After each visit, his antics were duly reported by the host for all to read and enjoy.

Over time, the humor wore a bit thin so Carl was mentioned less frequently. Eventually, he was dropped from the thread for several months until one of our members (Auntie perhaps?) inquired as to his whereabouts. At that point, it was revealed that Carl, owing to his unique ability to talk, had been offered an undercover position with the military on a secret spy mission in Saudi Arabia.
On his release and return, he accepted the position of activities director at the Shispering Pines where he remains to this day.

Carl's personality traits: He's fun-loving, talkative, experimental (primarily with coffee blends of a questionable nature) and -- yes -- a bit vain to the point of narcissism.
But under it all, he has a heart of gold and a guaranteed position at the 'Pines owing to his unique talents (and the fact the resort's business has tripled ever since his arrival).

That, of course, brings us to the 'Pines. The Shispering Pines, that is.
Name-christened by our own Jayish after a typo which was supposed to read "Whispering Pines", our thread-resident resort eventually took on a "Holiday Inn" (meaning the 1942 movie) like flavor, especially after Carl's arrival and his tremendous love for Christmas in general and that movie in particular.
Each Wednesday is open house day, where the first glass of sweet southern iced tea is complimentary along with the first Fired Twinkie (and now the newly-introduced Fired Twinkling derived from crossing Merry Carey's Kinklings with Carl's own Fired Twinkies).

Which in turn brings us to Fired Twinkies. That's right - FIRED Twinkes as (opposed to "fried").
Again, a typo was to blame. (Believe it was Binger this time.)
But our unique thread treat has endured, especially after becoming the official confection at the Shispering Pines.

Well, there you have it. A thumbnail sketch of an explanation as to what is going on here.

Hope that helps! Come join in the fun next Wednesday!

Thanks, Merry.
I couldn't have said it better myself.

I've seen a lot of stuff that I like but I haven't bought anything yet. That may change next hour when jim shore is on.

Welcome to Thursday-almost-friday day! lol
I wasn't able to watch QVC last night. The storm hit us and we had a tornado warning. They said to seek shelter. We all slept in the basement. THANKFULLY God watched over us and nothing happened. We only had high winds, LOTS of lightning and rain that was blowing SIDEWAYS. So that was that. Everyone is ok! The sensor on my van oil like is malfunctioning. grrr. Van has had nothing but issues. I wont be surprised if I go out to it and find it had combusted . haha. This weekend is a friends wedding so that should be a blast. Wow look at the calendar! Next week is SeptemBER! Woo hoo! Have a great day recovering from the pines!! hah!
