Good morning all!!! A bright but cold day here in NYC!!!! We got our e-mail for the Radio Christmas Show we have tickets for the 2:00 PM show on Christmas Eve!!! I cannot wait. We really wanted to go to the Giant / Jet game but tickets were way too much money, I guess if you want to see a live NFL game here in NYC you have to be a billionaire!!! Ugh... But, it is all good, I love the city on Christmas Eve, it is so wonderful...

Baked up all the cookies on Saturday, my Gingerbread men came out so good!!!

I hope you are all having a great morning.

Good morning all! It's the last Monday before Christmas, woo hoo! I have a bunch of cookies baked, most of my shopping done, and I'm ready for the home stretch! I try very hard to celebrate at least the first week of the twelve days of Christmas, rather than just one day, so I'm not feeling a little let down thinking of December 26.

I went to the local art guild's holiday shop to pick up something for my niece yesterday. There were so many beautiful arts and craft items for sale! I got a cute retro scarf thingie for her, a grab bag for one of my co-workers, and a small manger scene and a couple ornaments for me!

I'm praying for all who are sick and all who are sad--I hope you'll be feeling better soon. And for the rest--have a wonderful day!

Hi All!

Sorry I haven't been around for a while. I just haven't been feeling that "Christmas spirit" for the past few days, ya know?

But I'm back and working on my last-flippin' batch of cards to be mailed out. YAY!!

Anyway, I'm almost, almost ALMOST done with my homemade gifts (I just need to explain two songs in Mom's playlist letter) and then I'm DONE!!

This past Friday, myself and all of the other state employees received a lovely Christmas gift from the CFO--this coming Friday (12/23) will be administrative leave. In other words, those of us who are taking time off don't need to use any and those who were planning on coming to work, aren't now!! YAY!!

I know I haven't updated my Christmas-cards-received thread but thank you to those who have sent me a card. I really do appreciate it.

Good Morning, Christmas Family!!

I can't believe this week is already here! So much to do, so little
time cheesy

What do you guys have left to do to prepare for the big day?

I have last minute shopping to do for work people, I had just wanted to exchange cards, but that never happens on their end! Don't get me wrong, it's very thoughtful, and I appreciate it. It's just, now I have more shopping to do!

Have you guys watched any newer Christmas movies lately? I re-watched The Christmas Blessing & Christmas Angel last night. They are both really good, needed the kleenex for Christmas Blessing again, lol.

There's supposed to be a big snow storm that starts today near New Mexico & stretching into Kansas. I hope my Parents miss it, I fear for bad roads & black ice. I told them to just go really slow & be safe, and to get here when they get here. Please keep them in your thoughts.

Hope you are all doing well today, sending hugs to those who have been having a tough time lately.

Merry Christmas!!!!

Why is it so hard to find a good artificial tree anymore? The branches are just so flimsy and if you touch them they sway back and forths like they are going to fall over. I liked one of the ones at Kmart but I just refuse to spend $170 dollars on a tree whose branches are so flimsy that they won't hold an ornament. That's what I'm trying to get rid of.

Good Monday morning, my Christmas friends!

It was a busy weekend with Christmas shopping and Christmas partying. It was a tough job, but somebody had to do it!

We're going shopping again tonight without the kids, to do a little last-minute filler-shopping. Tommorrow is the Bernie's store party, then I have to take the kids to pickup a present for their mom. There aren't enough days left!

I hope y'all have a great day! cheesy

Good morning, Christmas friends. It is windy today here in northern California. For some reason, I have an earache today. I had Hubby put drops in, but it still hurts. It must be all that fast living I am doing! Dinner is in the crockpot: split pea soup in a chicken broth-potato base with chopped onion, shredded carrots, cubed ham and some Emeril's Original Seasoning. Later, after I use my submersible blender, I will add some more cubed ham so it will stay intact. I will make cornbread to go with it. Who would like to share our dinner with us? Christmas music will be playing in the background!

Save me some Cornbread!!!! I'm not a fan of split pea soup or really any kind of soup though.

Hello all,

Can't believe it's 5 days and just a few hours from Xmas Eve!!
As expected, the last two months have just flown by.

My first Xmas celebration has come and gone this past weekend and it was a great one, minus the long distance driving friday morning and yesterday morning, but the weather was mostly on our side, so no complaints about the road trip.

In just a matter of days, I get to do it all over again but for the entire weekend this time, LoL!

First things first, baking tomorrow evening. We make our Toblerone Shortbread cookies for this weekend.

Then I start Xmas vacation as of days end on Thursday and I'm off until Jan, yeah!!

Have a good final week B4 Xmas all!!

Cheers!!

ML

P.S.
The only thing still missing around here is the snow!! We've received a light dusting over the past two days but not enough to really cover the grass completely.

Hello to all.

Hard to believe how close we are already...only 11 days to go to Xmas Eve!!
I didn't at all see the end of Nov due to getting unexpectedly called to Jury duty which kept me tied up for the last 2 weeks of Nov while still working in the evenings to make up for the financial short comings with the jury duty but all in all, I made extra money which allowed me to finish my Xmas shopping!! So it was worth the hectic two weeks.

Shopping is all done....well, 98%. Only a little something left for my brother-in-law.
I'm not done wrapping yet though. Still wrapping stocking items in the evenings which I want to get this all done this week, to only have some baking to worry about next week.

The first family event, decorating the tree took place last Sat. and I have two 4 day weeks leading into Xmas weekend!! A long weekend coming for Xmas with the inlaws this weekend with a 6hr drive friday then again back home on Sunday. The 4 days next week leading into Xmas Vacation from the 23rd to the 3rd!! Can't wait!!

Of course it will be two hectic weekends coming up, but fun at the same time.

Hope you are all having a great holiday season!!

Cheers!!

ML

I always envy your well-described dinner! And you need to fry the cornbread like a pancake. Ho-cakes!

I might even save you a few cookies! Have you ever had Mexican Chocolate Chip Cookies?

Here ya go:

Mexican Chocolate Chip Cookies
Some cinnamon and pepper give these wonderful cookies a south-of-the-border flavor. You can also use Mexican chocolate.
Yield: Makes about 30

1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, room temperature
1 cup (packed) golden brown sugar
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 cups all purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon ground pepper
1 12-ounce package semisweet chocolate chips

Using electric mixer, beat butter and sugar in large bowl until fluffy. Beat in eggs 1 at a time, then vanilla. Sift next 6 ingredients over butter mixture; beat just until blended. Mix in chocolate chips. Refrigerate dough until cold, at least 1 hour and up to 1 day.
Preheat oven to 350°F. Lightly butter 2 large baking sheets. Drop dough by rounded tablespoonfuls onto sheets, spacing 1 1/2 inches apart. Bake cookies until golden brown but still soft to touch, about 10 minutes (for crisper cookies, bake 12 minutes). Let stand on sheets 3 minutes. Transfer cookies to racks and cool.

They sound delish, seawaters! I might have to try to make them sometime!

Here is an excerpt from a book on stress that I have been reading:

Slow your perception of time. A recent study suggests there are physiological reasons why time appears to pass more quickly for adults than it does for children. Which may explain why the year that seems like a week to an older person is an eternity to a younger one. Still, there are ways you can slow your perception of how fast time is moving (if not the passage of time itself). One is to be in the moment, to focus solely on the activity you're engaged in—without rushing or giving in to distraction. Another is to do what made time seem so boundless to us as kids: take as much of it as you need to explore, observe and savor what interests you most, naturally, without being tied to a schedule. Do that, and maybe the rest of your life won't seem like a mad dash to the finish line. Why make yourself crazy?

Ask for help. Whenever you reach a frustrating impasse—in your work, home projects, business transactions, travel, relationships, or any other area—and you don't know where to turn...ask for help. From friends, associates, professionals, even strangers. If you're too proud to seek assistance, or fear it's a sign of weakness (which it's not), you're only compounding your stress and futility. Most people are more than happy to share their knowledge, wisdom and expertise. Indeed, they welcome the opportunity to show it off. Just don't abuse their generosity or bother them with trivial things you can easily take care of yourself. Know the point where trying to go it alone crosses the line from persevering to pigheaded. Ask for help. Why make yourself crazy?

Get lost. Now don't get offended, I don't mean it that way.Get lost, as in losing yourself so completely in a diversion, you forget about all those other things stressing you out...and realize that they weren't worth agonizing over in the first place. Good ways to get lost are rambling walks, ballgames, movies, museums, books, street fairs, weekends away, or just hopping in your car and going for a leisurely drive. Anything you don't have to plan, fret about or watch the clock during. You'll find these unscheduled interludes are a reality in themselves, not just an escape from it. And that your life needn't always be the restrained and programmed regimen it is. So get lost. Why make yourself crazy?

I have one more excerpt to send in the next post.

Thanks dawg! I kinda feel like I have post-Christmas blues now...like I don't have time enough to sit down and enjoy everything and once I do, the season will be over and I'll have missed all the movies and tv specials and the like. So yeah, I do know what you're feeling. QUOTE]

2nd excerpt on stress:

Write your troubles away. Keep a journal. Diary. Blog. Whatever you want to call it. You don't have to write a lot each day...or even every day. And it needn't be a tedious play-by-play ofyour life. Record unusual incidents, hurts and gripes, triumphs and failures, reflections, rants, hilarity, disappointment...anything you feel compelled to vent.
Scrawl it into a notebook, or tap it out on your computer. It doesn't really matter. Just getting it out is the object. You'll feel better every time you do it. And when you come back to it years later, you'll open a fascinating window into your past. Like spying on another person. You'll learn a great deal from it, too. Writing a five- or ten-minute entry can be a healthy release. Why make yourself crazy?

Take it to the next level. When something goes wrong, try to avoid getting mired in the usual reactions of anger, frustration, disappointment and despair. Instead, hoist yourself to another level—one of understanding, acceptance and fortitude. Say to yourself: Yes, this is tough, but if I can meet the challenge and get through it—and I will—not only will I have dealt with this problem, but I will be that much stronger to tackle an even worse crisis should one come along. Sure, it's not easy. But if you ratchet up your reaction to strife a notch or two, and meet it head on, you'll emerge in much betters hape. Why make yourself crazy?

Thank you SO MUCH for posting this!!! I had already started feeling a little better when I read this (thank you, Christmas Vacation!), but then after this, I couldn't believe how much better I felt. You are a great friend, seawaters! It is still a little day-to-day with my Christmas spirit (depending on how work(s) go), but I definitely do feel less stressed.

The Colts won a game!!!!!!!!!!!!

I meant to post yesterday and share my joy with you, made! I am SO PUMPED! Yes, it's the end of the year, but at least they're not completely winless!!! =D

Good evening,

Another busy day at work, exhaustion is beyond how I feel.

Please say a prayer or keep a thought on me, I haven't decided if I want to be away from here for a little while, I will take that on a day by day basis. I have so much on my plate and mind right now, and my Christmas spirit has disappeared on me.
Thank you so much to Caninemom3 she has been helping me through this stretch, she is such a great person and a friend.

Have a good night.

I will keep you in my thoughts, xmas. I hope you feel better soon. *hugs*

It seems my back has only been bothering me more, so I think I will need to call the chiropractor and make an appointment with him for Tuesday. As I think I told you guys before, the medicine that they have given me, only makes me drowsy and knocks me out, which just isn't feasible for someone like me, so I need to have something done. It's frustrating. I want to spend time with DH and the kids, but at the same time, when I'm in so much pain, when I come home from work and need to sleep for a few hours and supposed to take my medicine and then I do, it knocks me out. Ugh...anyway...enough complaining. Hopefully the chiropractor can figure something out for me, if not, looks like I will be trying therapy next.

I hope you feel better soon, sugar!!!

Too bad the Broncos didn't. :-?

I was pulling for them! I don't know if I exactly have Tebow Fever, but he is amazing to watch!

I think a lot of us here are unfortunately feeling the lack of Christmas spirit. I'm sure we'll all get a nice big dose of spirit within the next week!!

Color me uninformed, but there's a Christmas cards received thread?? I haven't posted in it and I feel terrible! I guess I mainly only come to this thread anymore due to lack of time to go to any others, so I haven't noticed. =(

What do you guys have left to do to prepare for the big day?

Oh my goodness, what DON'T I have left to do!? We haven't made out cards, sent save-the-dates, made cookies, nothing! We have been so busy and we haven't had time to do any of those til now. Getting cards and save-the-dates tonight, will make cookies either between jobs tomorrow and Wednesday, or after Kohl's Thursday. I don't normally wait this long...it's driving me insane!

Hello Christmas family!

Christmas Vacation helped a ton the other day!!! DF and I just love the movie and no matter how many times we watch it, we always crack up. It definitely helped me out and de-stressed me quite a bit. We also got together with some good friends yesterday (both are in our wedding) and had a great time! They got DF a really cool NY Jets picture and I got the Cash Cab board game (after which I schooled all of them with my intense knowledge of useless trivia, lol). Both of those things, along with kind words from people here, have really helped me get my Christmas spirit back, or at least deal with the Christmas work stress in a much healthier way. <3

I am determined to get Christmas cards and save-the-dates done today - it WILL get done! I hope everyone here has a fantastic Monday and a fabulous week-of-Christmas!!! <3
