This post reminded me of my years as a kid when I went to VBS every summer. My mom and my aunt both taught, so it was The Law!!! I am curious, Christmasstar. Do you mind naming your church? Do you teach a denomination-related curridculum? Do you get a lot of parent support? If it's not too much trouble, can you give a brief rundown of your schedule (i.e. Do you serve snacks?)

Bradmac, I think you and Dawg also mentioned VBS. Do you mind sharing the name of your church and answer the questions I asked Christmasstar. It is so exciting to see that VBS is still going strong, even after over 60 years!!!

Thanks in advance for your help. It means more to me than you can ever know.

our church does the same thing! Our VBS is not until the middle of August, but we take lots of pictures too, put it to the music the kids learned all week for the parents to watch, We also do a BBQ supper.

Our pastor of many years left about 3 months ago, still looking for a new one. We have an interim pastor who is great right now.

Maybe Christmasstar or Shellie could come up with a poster of a cat that says, "You've Been Palmerized!!!"

Good evening, MMC!

I tried to nap, but Palmer had other ideas, the little stinker! She is running around, causing mischief, but nothing serious - been at it for most of the day. I really thought cats slept more, especially in the heat and humidity. I put in a few hours on store business, that is really never ending. If I was paid an hourly wage, I'd have it made! I am going to relax the rest of the evening as it is still very humid.

Have a MERRY evening!!!

Off to chemo in a few minutes. I really appreciate all your prayers and good wishes. Thanks for all your messages. TTYL

No problem...I attend Memorial Baptist Church

This is where you can find the curriculum we teach....they have different ones to choose from and give instructions on everything from decorations to snacks to costumes etc. We are doing "Babylon: Daniels courage in captivity this year.

We are blessed with a lot of volunteers that start with our jr youth and goes all the way up to seniors.
The weeks leading up to VBS are fun as we watch the entire church transform into what ever the theme is that year.

The leaders and helpers all meet in the gym for breakfast and instructions and prayer time before the kids arrive.

Our program runs only in the mornings and is very high energy. We start with open session and then break into small groups of 5 to 10 kids each and go to various stations.(crafts, games, story time, snack prep etc) Each station has a "teacher" and instructs kids and leaders on what to do at that station. Every 20 mins (I think it is that, could be 30min) they go to next station. All meet in gym for snacks then another station and then back to sanctuary for closing session. Each group of kids must stay with their leader and helper for the morning.

Then the leaders all collapse in the gym with a drink . We have our debriefing, talk about any problems, challenges, what would work better tomorrow. Clean up, organize our stuff for the next day. (each group has one of those reusable shopping bags to carry around all our stuff like attendance sheets, awards etc)

Hope this helps!

I don't mind, either.

We attend Union United Methodist Church. It's a small country church a few miles outside town. I'm pretty sure the UMC doesn't tell us what curriculum to use, but I'm not the one who spearheads the operation. This year, the program is three evenings long, from 5:30PM to 8:00. We have the lesson, arts & crafts, music, outdoor games, and we have a meal each evening for the kids and staff (spaghetti tonight, I think). We do have a lot of adult participation. We have pix of our kids through the years at VBS.

You didn't ask me but I will answer anyway...

Our VBS starts tonight and runs for 3 days. Our church is 1st Baptist Robbinsville but we hold VBS at Whisper Mountain, a Christian youth retreat near us. Times will be from 6-9pm. We serve snacks and have lots of support from parents and other church members.

I am burning a pumpkin scented candle in one room and a sugar cookie candle in another. I am about to crank up some Christmas music and finish cleaning the house. That's the way to keep Christmas thoughts on my mind!

Well my sister just got back from the foot doctor and it turns out she doesn't have a sprained ankle like her family doctor thought. It's actually a cyst on the ankle and she gets to have surgery to have it removed. I guess the surgery isn't to bad though and she can walk on it the same day. The bad part is they couldn't get her in until the 29th for surgery. So guess what I get to do for the next 18 days?

I know she wants to get it over with quickly!

I don't know. She also babysits her BIL and SIL's little girl during the week. So when I say I'm coming out here to babysit my niece's I'm actually babysitting her too and right now I think my sister is more than happy to sit back and get paid while I do all the work.

Good afternoon, MMC!!

Happy Monday!

How are you all today?

For it being a weekend that hubby & I were going to just relax, it sure was busy!

We went to see Prometheus yesterday, that was a really cool movie!! Glad we saw it in the theater. Of course, we ran into some friends while there, and hung out w/ them for a bit after.

Then, we went home & a neighbor stopped by to borrow something for his mountain bike...while we were cooking out...so he ended up staying for dinner, lol. Never a dull moment!!

...just wanted to stop by quick & say hi =) Hope you're all having a great start to the week!!

Nancy won't go with me to see it! I'll have to get my brother to go with me. I can't wait to see that one!

We've been waiting to see it for awhile, I don't think it'll disappoint :)

Let me know what you think!!

Still trying to figure out @ Ridley Scott & his stance on this movie..
