...This week is Ash Wednesday and the beginning of Lent. I think I know what I want to give up but I'm not 100% sure. Last year it was pasta and NEVER AGAIN will I do that!! I love it too much! cheesy

I don't do the whole Lent thing but I thought the whole point of it was to give up something important to you??!!!!!! It isn't suffering if you give up something you can take or leave...........!!
Isn't giving up something for Lent a form of fasting?

Took JP to get his haircut, bought him a little treat and then took him to BK for lunch and perused through Toys R Us to get ideas of what he wants for his birthday. We had a good day, he called it "the best day ever." We haven't had a day out just the 2 of us in a while. It was a very good day.

I haven't given anything up for Lent in about 13 years, heck I gave up work for 6 weeks already. cheesy I haven't thought about it, so I probably won't again this year. I used to do it every year through my teen years and early 20's.

I will be making one of my wife's favorite meals tonight, my homemade calzones. Mmmmmmmmm!

Enjoy the rest of your day!

I need to borrow the Learjet to fly to Frederick and get some kinklings! It's kinkling season in Frederick County, and I really, really miss them ... you can't get them anywhere else (although Carl makes a great variation called a Fired Twinkling ... hope there are some at the 'Pines tomorrow). They are a lot like homemade doughnuts---fried in hot oil and coated with powdered sugar. Mmmmmmmm, my tummy is homesick ...

The bad news is that I'm still fighting a cold, but the good news is I stayed home today to do it, and the office is getting someone to cover for me tomorrow. I hope everyone else who's under the weather can relax today and feel better soon. Hoping for some good news on the estate front tomorrow.

I put it away, but she still hasn't said anything about the other room that still has a bunch of snowmen out, including one that lights up that is wearing a Santa hat. Shhhhhhhhhh.

cheesy

I still have all my winter stuff out as well. It will be up until I put my Easter stuff up. Is every year!

Well it looks like I am going to have to do something I have been dreading. Gonna have to start shopping for a new car. I know that is usually supposed to be a happy thing, but I was trying to make my car last a bit longer than this. It is a 2003 Grand Prix, overall it isn't in bad shape, it runs fine, but a few years ago I was in an accident and when the other car hit me my wheel was turned and it messed up the rack and pinion because the car actually hit my front wheel while it was turned. Since then I have the rack and pinion replaced 4 times, and after some time they all start leaking power steering fluid. This is apparently going to be an ongoing problem, and it can't be fixed permanently, and replacing a rack and pinion isn't cheap. There are a few other problems that crop up from time to time, so it is getting to the point of the car just not worth the time and money anymore, plus I need something with better gas mileage.

Good luck with the car shopping!

HI everyone
its 3.47 here and what am doing up is more than i no !!!
Was in with my neighour and got her to bed. she does not like strangers putting her to bed ..
I sat until the marie currie sitter came in. and she was one of the ones i used to work with 5 yeras ago. so we had a good chat. she was trying to persuade me to come back even a few nights a week. her and me at that time wood have done the evening and night shifts to give the familys time to sleep. told her i wood think about it. i dont no but as it wood be hard with the shop and things but i always found it rewarding as you can see the stress and worry on familys. and if you can come in and help with even letting them get sleep .
Got the tablets for sasha well got her a injection to start and tablets . had no bother when down was ready for a row i guess and when i asked for a injection i thought here we go. but no they just asked what i wanted and give it to me. the only thing was she was gonna give me a thick needle and i said i wanted a butterfly .it a very fine needle that does not hurt as much .
And put some cranberry tablets in her food to. she seems good now. she was out at the toilet and all seems ok. thanks everyone for asking
Guess a lot of you are in bed and sleeping like a bog eel lol ( thats a old irish saying for sleeping so content nice and peaceful)
Think i will try it so goodnight mmc and talk soon...

Glad Sasha is starting to feel better and responding to her meds. That's great news.

I slept so sound last night. I slept so well that I didn't wake up until my granddaughter arrived. I usually wake up at least 30 minute to hour before she arrives but this morning my son-in-law called me while I was sleeping and I was so out of it I could not figure out why he was calling. He said, "I am outside". I kept thinking, why is he out there, OH I am babysitting! Wake up!!! =)

You all have a great day!

Glad to hear you slept so well last night. How are you feeling?

That would be great!!!!!! My sister also just found out that she has a bulging disk in her neck so she was wondering if she can borrow you for a few days?

That has to be so painful! I hope she has some relief soon!

Good afternoon, MMCers! Hope everyone is having a great day so far! DH, the kids, and I are getting ready to go out for dinner, we just haven't decided where yet. I guess it will be a last minute decision as we drive.

Nothing new here. Tomorrow is my day off and I can't wait!

Alrightly, I will be checking back in after I get home! Ttyl!

Forgive me for sounding blunt. Certainly know that this isn’t meant to be judgmental. Maybe I’m missing something from certain organized religions.

The idea of giving up something for Lent is a form of fasting the way I must have learned it somewhere.

Thus, in light of Matthew 6:16-18, I’ve approached Lent from a much more private personal perspective. The real emphasis is on Spiritual meditation that replaces whatever item or activity I might have given up (Seek God, deny self).

Lent observance in a church setting, imho, is simply a collective congregational extension of sacrificed time for special services and meditation. Also Lent observance does not negate fasting at other times when one is troubled or collectively when a church seeks revival or Spititual guidance.

Giving up something as a sacrifice without replacing it with prayerful meditation whether during Lent or not seems void. Comparing notes on who gave up what just doesn’t make any sense at all to me.

I am totally in awe of your fitness. When I read your posts, I am COMPLETELY EXHAUSTED!!! But somehow, I am not getting physically fit!!! LOL!!!

Good afternoon, everyone!

Has it really been that long? It appears that I have been MIA since Thursday. My apologies. Where have I been? Around... Not too busy, but just a little. Kim and I had an enjoyable weekend. To say that I was sore/exhausted afterward would be an understatement. I finally returned to doing heavy weights on Saturday. It felt nice to lift without any pain. Then, we had our 4 on 4 league at night. Sunday I had to complete an assignment, then I had flag football in the evening. My legs were exhausted. They are not used to running anymore. I need to bring sprints back into my training.

I hope everyone has been enjoying themselves, especially those that had Family Day (Canada) and President's Day yesterday. As a federal government employee, I had neither. We had Remembrance Day (Veterans' Day) off in November. Oh well, at least I am working and getting paid.

Not much happening today. After resting yesterday, I will be returning to the gym after work today... Hmm. What else...?

The weather is a little warm for this time of year... As it has been all "winter." In fact, we should be above freezing for the next few days. It will dip below for less than a week and then the warm weather will return. It is already feeling like mid-March in Ottawa. We will see if this pattern holds. Perhaps, mid-March could feel like mid-April? There are no more outdoor rinks, so I have no outdoor activities to look forward to. With that, I'll take the mid-April weather as soon as possible!

Have a great Tuesday, everyone! Hope all is well.
