Can you give me a few hours to get there??? LOL!!!

I need to borrow the Learjet to fly to Frederick and get some kinklings! It's kinkling season in Frederick County, and I really, really miss them ... you can't get them anywhere else (although Carl makes a great variation called a Fired Twinkling ... hope there are some at the 'Pines tomorrow). They are a lot like homemade doughnuts---fried in hot oil and coated with powdered sugar. Mmmmmmmm, my tummy is homesick ...

The bad news is that I'm still fighting a cold, but the good news is I stayed home today to do it, and the office is getting someone to cover for me tomorrow. I hope everyone else who's under the weather can relax today and feel better soon. Hoping for some good news on the estate front tomorrow.

I totally agree. The meditation part is right on, RJD. In the Catholic church certain parishioners are "exempt" from some practices. For example, Hubby could not really fast because of his diabetes. Older people are not held to giving up anything, but I would hope that those of us who are older do practice prayer and meditation. I do give up something for Lent, normally wine, because I truly want to deny myself something. I did not feel you were being judgmental. I love Shrove Tuesday/Mardi Gras, but I don't necessarily observe it to eat or drink all I can hold because days of abstinance are coming up. I participate in a light-hearted way. In our Church, we receive a Lenten booklet that is filled with meditations for each day of Lent. I love it because, like you said, it fills up my life with prayerful mediation. We also have the same kind of booklet for Advent. This really gets me in the Christmas spirit. We also have one for Easter. I like being held accountable, even if it is only between myself and God. Like you said, or at least how I interpreted it, this is really a personal matter between you and whomever you believe in.

Forgive me for sounding blunt. Certainly know that this isn’t meant to be judgmental. Maybe I’m missing something from certain organized religions.

The idea of giving up something for Lent is a form of fasting the way I must have learned it somewhere.

Thus, in light of Matthew 6:16-18, I’ve approached Lent from a much more private personal perspective. The real emphasis is on Spiritual meditation that replaces whatever item or activity I might have given up (Seek God, deny self).

Lent observance in a church setting, imho, is simply a collective congregational extension of sacrificed time for special services and meditation. Also Lent observance does not negate fasting at other times when one is troubled or collectively when a church seeks revival or Spititual guidance.

Giving up something as a sacrifice without replacing it with prayerful meditation whether during Lent or not seems void. Comparing notes on who gave up what just doesn’t make any sense at all to me.

I agree with you both, totally. I am Catholic too, Seawaters. We too, get that book. I too use that book for prayer. My family and I will be attending services tomorrow and be blessed with the ashes. I will even have my children blessed with the ashes. I feel that I still have to have prayer behind "my giving up something."

Just got back from dinner not too long ago. We decided to go to Outback. It was very good! I have their Chicken on the Barbie and seasonal veggies.

Hope everyone is enjoying their evening! :rudolph:

Its always hard on little dogs to do that!!! the last doxie I had for 10 years and she was the sweetest dog ever. I know the pottie training will be hard and trying.lol but I can't wait.. Me and Brandi are getting ready to go to church and it's raining we already have had 2 inches and it's still coming down!! After church we are having about 10 friends from church over to eat lunch so me and brandi have been in the kitchen cooking..sundays are fast becoming enterntainment day for us. and I have found out that brandi is much more sociable than me... I thought I was but since we hae lived together she has had many more get togethers than I have.lol anyway hope everyone Is having a great day so far...I will check back in later!!

Congrats on the puppy. I do so love Sunday gettogethers, they are the stuff fond and happy memories are made from. Hope you all enjoyed.

good a.m. My MC family! what a glorious Sunday it is too! rain has settled over us but we need it & it's beautiful!
big bro's party was nice yesterday, came home after & watched a little tv before bed. i was soo tired.
so dawg, how did brandi like her necklace? i'm sure she was tickled to pieces.
cah, can you tell me a little more about the Greasy Skillet? what time/days is it on?
well guys haven't mentioned this before but where i live in S.C. the crimes are getting out of hand. our unemployment rate is 1 of the highest & some people are turning to crime. there's a beauty shop down below the flower shop i work @ & the owner was leaving 1 evening & some men in a van came up to her car window, pointed a gun @ her. she took off in her car & went straight to the police station, told them, & they searched & found the men in the van. turns out the gun was a bb gun. that's horrible, i mean c'mon, can you imagine how scared she was? this is just 1 incident of many. hubby has said he's getting his concealed weapon license & i had told him i am too. hubby had mentioned this before this happened but i decided to afterward. i know some of you may feel anti-gun but when you are scared....you're scared! boss had went to a chamber of commerce meeting on the downtown crime w/ the sheriff speaking on it, she filled us in on the info he gave. boss said she's gotta bad feeling, which didn't help my fears. also told us if anyone tries to rob the shop, give them everything! don't fight it let'em have it all! this town is in bad shape & it saddens me because this is where i grew up have called home for 40 years.:?

Sorry to read this about what is going on in your town, I am not sure but we had a town close to me that the local merchants worked with the police I do not remember the name of the program but it is similar to the neighbor watch one for kids, maybe the local businesses might help out if there was a plan, it didn't happen overnight but today the town is safe and very enjoyable.

A 5-year-old computer is geriatric. We once kept one for 7 years, but it got VERY slow, and eventually got shut down by malware (fake virus warning).

Same thing happened to mine at about the same age too.

Well it looks like I am going to have to do something I have been dreading. Gonna have to start shopping for a new car. I know that is usually supposed to be a happy thing, but I was trying to make my car last a bit longer than this. It is a 2003 Grand Prix, overall it isn't in bad shape, it runs fine, but a few years ago I was in an accident and when the other car hit me my wheel was turned and it messed up the rack and pinion because the car actually hit my front wheel while it was turned. Since then I have the rack and pinion replaced 4 times, and after some time they all start leaking power steering fluid. This is apparently going to be an ongoing problem, and it can't be fixed permanently, and replacing a rack and pinion isn't cheap. There are a few other problems that crop up from time to time, so it is getting to the point of the car just not worth the time and money anymore, plus I need something with better gas mileage.

Oh my sorry you have to get a new car because of this reason, but unlike some of the posts I so enjoy car shopping and I am a Ford girl, but.... I did buy a Chevy car and boy I have been so happy, I have the Chevy Malibu goodness I like that car. I was also very happy to learn that some of the Chevy's get better gas mileage then alot of other makers, I am a big believer that whn you are buying a car price is a factor but safety is more important to me. Good luck and PM if you need any I side scoop I am a closet gear head shhhh, don't let anyone know that but really I would be happy to answer any questions on the newer models out there.

I assume you didn't......
Nah.

LOL

Very well said - my pastor says giving up is good but what is the point if you are not feeding yourself with the soul and love of God, hope I didn't offend you or anyone else. This just really touched me and you said it so nicly

I am totally in awe of your fitness. When I read your posts, I am COMPLETELY EXHAUSTED!!! But somehow, I am not getting physically fit!!! LOL!!!

Thanks. I need to be active. Without sports/training, I don't know what I would do. It's all in great fun. I always enjoy the feeling afterwards as well as the results! :D

Good evening MMC friends... well I did it I got the website up and running, posted my first blog. Now my next step will be a Facebook page. Crazy right, me it isn't this crazy web site but I a pretty impressed with myself, hubby loves it so we are headed in the right direction. All our yellow page ads came out this week - I told him I want to have my Christmas tree up by mid Nov for all this work, tee hee I figured I can,'t work for free right, he said I drive a hard bar in but he would give into my demands. I figured at each holiday I can ad little designs - I just might become a web master LOL, OK I better not get a head of myself.

I miss you all and tried to carefully go through all the posts but I missed so much, I hope all those who are not feeling well get better, I am thinki g of you furry babies and children too. I am just wishing all good things for the people on here who have really become much more then just internet connection.

Be well LB

I have decided to quickly check in tonight. Heading to bed now. I will try and watch the rest of the Kings game in bed. They've scored four goals - after being shutout their past two games - but I think they will somehow figure out how to lose this game, too.

Good night!

Goodnight Everyone!!!!!

I hope you find something to your liking, I hate shopping for cars, it is a little stressful sometimes.

Thanks, I have been checking out some websites, I am not rushing into anything that's for sure.

Well, I'll be okay; I'll have the whole sandbox to myself for 40 days!!!!!!

I am a Christian but I don't observe Lent, so I will be here too.

Good luck with the car shopping!

Thanks, I have a pretty good idea what I want

I appreciate that, I actually like the idea of getting a new car, I just wasn't ready to do it now. I was hoping to get a few more years out of this car. I have decided to wait until near the end of the year, it isn't urgent that I get one now, and car dealers usually have the best deals at the end of the year. I can't say I favor one make of car over another anymore, it's kind of funny that when I was younger I was a Ford man, but I never owned a Ford. I have had a Dodge truck, and 3 Pontiacs (a Grand Am and 2 Grand Prixs). I am looking at the Ford Fusion, but I am open to anything in a midsize sedan. At least I think that is considered midsize these days.
