Christmas Countdown - 2012

In the South, at least where I am from, we have a Christmas tradition that entails "juicing" an orange (rolling it on a counter, using your palm), cutting a hole, putting in a porous peppermint stick (using Bob's Peppermint Sticks), biting off each end) and sucking on the peppermint stick like a straw. It is Heaven!!!

You are going to have to tell me more about this.....sounds great!

Sorry I wasn't around yesterday, but here was a mix-up at school and our transportation director didn't hire a bus driver for an all day event, thereby leaving 15 kids waiting for their trip. While it wasn't my plans for the day, I didn't want "my babies" to miss their event.

So I took them, came back and took another trip that was scheduled that I committed to, took my group home, and then went back to pick up the other group. This started around 6:30 and ended around 6:00. So my day was spent driving a bus. But seeing the smiles as kids got back on the bus...ain't a better way to spend a Saturday.

Today is no work day. I'm going to read the boards, look around at some Christmas stuff, do some cooking....and watch some football!

I laughed when I saw about the wrapping paper. I had gone to Wal-Mart and thought about Jennifer! I love how we think of each other when we see certain things. I always think of MerryCarey when I see crochet stuff and CS when I see cake decorating stuff!

Good evening, Christmas Family

I am just now getting settled down and getting ready to finish up on the ornament exchange. Where did the time go today ?? I had today off and am probably going to work some tomorrow. I can't believe how the year has flown, I am glad, but I can't believe it !! I have one year left on my health insurance and then have to do something else. I have no idea what but I guess I will deal with it when it gets closer.....Please if you can say a prayer or two for this situation that would be great. I am at this point 58 and have pre-existing conditions so........I guess we'll see...

I am looking so forward to decorating !!! Our tree and my sister's...I hope to have some photos for the Christmas Blossoms thread probably the first part of November after the Donzell open house !! This will be my Hermione's first Thanksgiving and Christmas !! She doesn't know that after we have had our feast on Thanksgiving and Christmas that all the pups get their own portions of turkey and mashed potatoes and such .....We don't give them stuffing because of the onions in it but I know she is going to love her special treats !!

I hope Arthur Christmas comes out soon on our pay per view cable channel. I still have not seen it.

This sounds so good! We love pork chops around here! The recipe I am making tonight is one of my favorites of my mom's. The only thing is, we didn't have crockpots back in the day; so she did hers in the pressure cooker. The juices made the best savory gravy! Every time I cook this, I am transported back to my childhood!

What a long day! My mom is really sick, so if anyone can, prayers would be really appreciated. I need a good Christmas movie to wind down the weekend today or tomorrow. I can't wait for the season!! Walmart needs to put their dang wrapping paper out already - we all know how I feel about that! I search the aisles every time and I think the employees all know me by now to know what I'm hunting for lol!

I loved it when we got season tickets to Carowinds. (I think it is a 6-Flags outfit, too.) A lot of people would scoff at us for being so child-like! Of course, we are child-like in our love of Christmas, too! I say: Let 'em scoff! Glad you had a good time, even if you did get so tired! Your Charlie Brown evening sounds like fun!

Wayne and I went to Six Flags yesterday and got our Season Passes. My daughter, son-in-law, grandkids and mom will be picking theirs up sometime next week. It will be fun to go out there with them all throughout the year!

We had a good time at Six Flags but I was so wiped out when we got home. Wayne and I watched all the Charlie Brown shows last night, Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas then went to sleep.

I have a very busy day today and didn't have time to reply to all but I did read everything I missed.

hey everyone! i've gotta headache i've had since Oct.1st I know it's allergies but jeese!
i'm sure today will end up like all the rest. doing nothing but work. when football season comes all my boys study is the tv every saturday, sunday, monday, & thursday!!!!! daughter thinks we have to spend $ to do anything so i'm kind'a stuck w/ nothing. i only wish my family did stuff like i read some of you doing.

It is great! So simple. Just follow the directions: roll the orange around on the counter, applying pressure to make it juicy. Cut a hole in the top like you would if you were going to suck on the orange. Get a peppermint stick (what we call "soft"), bite a little off each end, stick it in the orange and suck on the peppermint stick like it's a straw! (It takes only a few tries to get it "started." I am 65 years old and still do this. I also show the students how to do this at Christmas during our Christmas party. You can get the porous peppermint at Wal-Mart. The brand is Bob's. You can get the peppermint there now, at least here!

Good morning, MMC!

Another rainy day here ~ we really need the rain so I hope it lasts a long time! After I made my cookies yesterday, I decided to lay down and take a nap ~ it was a little after six and I don't usually nap all that good, but my head was aching and I had to do something. Four and half hours later I woke up long enough to check on the cats and then back to sleep I went. I must have really needed the sleep as I got over 12 hours in. I'm really behind on everything again though, and I missed the Greasy Skillet ~ that bums me out more than anything.

Today will spent playing catch up ~ and if time permits, reading and knitting.
