Good morning MMC!!

Today is my dad's birthday. I normally make him an apple pie, but since I took over several containers of assorted cookies, date bars, rugelach, pecan pie tarts, and slices of sweet potato pie, he'll probably tell me to hold off LOL. They freeze everything and keep it all year. By the time they run out of the stuff I left them, it'll be Christmas 2014.

Working on some wood carvings, glass engravings and some blog posts today.

Hope all of you have a wonderful peaceful day and are still enjoying your holidays!

Snowflake, hope you're feeling better today!

Happy Birthday to your Dad!

Good Morning MMC!!!!!! It's going to be a beautiful day here with a high in the mid 50's. So I'm taking advantage of the nice weather to get out there and look for some after Christmas deals. I've already been to Meijer and Walmart and now I'm just making a pit stop to drop off the groceries before heading to Target, Kmart, and Kohl's. I haven't had a lot of luck finding anything that just screams buy me so far so hopefully that will change. I hope everyone is having a GREAT DAY!!!!!!!!!

Have fun, I hope you find some good deals!

Okay I just had to post one more thing because this is too funny!

Where we live we have two families of really large sand cranes on our property. They are on the endangered species list and protected by Florida laws. They stand about 4.5 to 6 feet tall depending on gender and age. Several of them were standing in the middle of the road in front of our house. I'm outside on my back porch reading here and posting, but can clearly see them.

I just watched a van pull up to them, put on his brakes and come to a complete stop. They are not skiddish at all and generally move when they're good and ready. He sits there honking his horn repeatedly trying to get them to move. Two of them amble slowly off to the side of the road. The driver gets out of the van and yells at the top of his lungs at the other two. "GO ON!! GET OUTTA HERE!!"

These cranes mate for life and have been here for years now. My MIL named this particular couple Elvis and Priscilla. LOL Elvis is very tall and his size can be intimidating if you're not used to them. This driver is making broad gestures trying to get them to move. I yelled out, "Hey!! I wouldn't do that if I were you! Just go around them!!"

Keep in mind... these are large birds. Think Ostrich mentality. Far more cognitive than your average bird. That "fight or flight," instinct is more just "fight or... yeah let's just go with fight again."

The guy completely dismissed me and just keeps yelling and waving his arms. Stepped one step too close to Priscilla and Elvis' massive wings spread wide. He has about an 8 to 9 foot wingspan. Then that huge beak opened up, he lunged and his bellowing cackle-cry echoed off the houses and canal. You can hear those things with the TV on loud and all windows closed. If you're outside near them it makes you want to cover your ears and the vibration hits that decibal that causes nausea.

Elvis flapped one time, went airborn vertically up, hovered and came back down, looming over the man and standing in front of him wings spread. The driver covered his head with both arms, ducked, peered out from between his arms and they were just staring at each other, face to face.

One last roar from the crane and the man just paused for a nano second, screamed like a little girl and ran for his vehicle. He threw it in reverse and backed up down the road!!! LMBO ROFL That was great!!! AAAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

It serves him right! lol

I have seen "In the Good Old Summertime" and "You've Got Mail," but not "Shop Around the Corner", will have to look that one up. Thanks

I think you'll like it! M-G-M, 1938; Jimmy Stewart, Margaret Sullavan, Frank Morgan, and some wonderful character actors (including one of our favorites, Felix Bressart).

The afghan is made up of crocheted hexagons that are attached as you go along - I used Windsor blue as the main color with six accent colors. The scarf is all knit stitch. The next one I make will be all purl. I want to get both stitches down so that I can venture into making something other than scarves. I really like them, too! cheesy
I bet the scarves you make are awesome!

I'd love to see pictures! I like Windsor blue, and I'd really like to see what the accent colors are with it. It's been a long time since I made an afghan with hexagons. They're like granny square afghans---you can choose whatever colors you like and make one any size you like, and they're a fun way of using scraps!

Sounds like me as a kid. Not the part of keeping decorations up for a long time but I was the one in the family that was so eager to get the decorations out that I did it by myself every year starting at age 10. The family would have helped but I enjoyed it so much that I didn't mind. I even started buying decorations from my own money at that age and still have those decorations. Christmas Crazy for sure!

LOL I did the same thing! When I was a kid we had an artificial tree every year till I was 12. I asked if I could put the 6.5' artificial one in my room. My dad said, "If you can get it down and in your room, go for it!" Two hours later, much to his surprise it was assembled and standing tall in front of one of my windows.

I put it up every year till I left for college. When I had my own apartment that same tree went with me. By the time it finished it's ability to still stand erect and stable the poor thing was tattered, but I still loved it.

I love these stories! I'll bet most of us were Christmas nuts from an early age.

I remember the year I talked my parents into getting a real tree for the first time in years … so I could take over the artificial tree and put it in my room! There was an early Thanksgiving that year, and I had that tree up and decorated by November 30. I can still picture the colored reflections of the lights on the ceiling.

Funny story!

Thank heaven, the worst we have to deal with around here is wild turkeys, and thank heaven again, I've never had to deal with one. Or with a bird that stand six feet tall and screams like a snallygaster, either!!

Off to get the rest of the day under way. See you later!

That sounds lovely Meceka! Like I said I'm a novice. I sit and watch youtube videos on how to do certain stitches, practice along, get it in my head, and then completely forget to use it the next time I start something. I still love the simplicity of a straight knit and garter stitch. Though I do have a scarf I made with ribbon yarn that sees alot of use here in FL. LOL

I do love tatting lace though! I started that when I was 19. I had a bad car accident that left me with only the use of my finger tips on my left hand for quite a while. Bored and healing I started learning and finding ways to paint and do crafts one handed or with limited use of both. I'm left handed so I had to learn to write, draw and paint with my right.

Tatting with shuttles was easy because the thread just had to wrap around the fingers of my left and my right could do all the work. My mom still has a boxful of tatted Christmas ornaments from simple snowflakes to complex starched and formed sleighs and bells. LOL. I still love it and prefer shuttles but now know how to do it with crochet hooks too.

I tried to teach myself how to tat with a shuttle several years ago - I just could not do it no matter how hard I tried. A few years back I bought a cro-tat hook and how-to book - I really should get them out and give it a go one of these days. The snowflake and bell patterns I have collected over the years are gorgeous and I would so love to do some up for my tree. Now if I can only remember where I stashed everything. cheesy

I got called into work for a few hours today, so glad to get some extra hours.
Need to get ready to go, have a great afternoon everyone!!

I'm glad you got the extra hours! Have a good day at work, CS!

Once I got the pattern on how to hook them together down, it started to go quite fast. I intend to post a picture when I get it done - a little less than two rows to go and then the border which I might change a bit. I used double yarn so I have a lot of the accent colors left. There is enough to make a lapghan or maybe even two of them. I want to start in early and try to get some gifts done for the residents who have no one visit them at the elder care home where my godfather resided. A post you made several years ago gave me the idea, I just never had the time or was organized enough to actually start. Thank you, Merry!

I almost forgot to post these. They're not the best pictures but my daughter sent them to me when she went to the city a couple of nights ago. The Rockefeller tree and the Empire State Building lit up with red and green lights.
