Now that Turtle is here I can tell you how he came to us.
I am not a dog person, I never really have been. I haven't had a dog since I was 15-16 years old. My wife and her family are dog people, my wife has wanted a Chocolate Lab for years.
Turtle is a Chocolate Lab, he is 6 years old and from Tennessee. We received a text from a friend of my wife with his picture, telling us his furparent needed to find a new home for him. His furparent had been diagnosed with terminal cancer and was only given 6 months to year to live, and Turtle was becoming too hard to take care of.
We contacted him and started asking about Turtle, learning about him and asking everything about him. We became very interested and let his furparent know we were. He told us he was giving him away to someone he felt would be good for him and take care of him. He selected us and all we had to do was to pay for the transport of him from Tennessee to Massachusetts. The furparent turns out to be one of the nicest people we have ever talked to, it is bittersweet that we got his baby because of his diagnosis, but we are lucky enough to be the ones he chose to take care of Turtle.
Turtle is a great dog, very smart, well trained and loves the kids. It made the decision easy to take him since we didn't have to go through the puppy stages, being my first dog in 20+ years I didn't know if I could handle those stages with 2 young boys and 5 cats.
Day 2 with Turtle has gone well, my wife and kids are adoring him, I am still adjusting to it, but so far it is going well.
