Christmas Countdown - 2014

Good Friday morning, my Christmas friends!

The meeting with the county commission chairman went good last night, but I'm not sure it was worth all the effort. He wanted input from the people in the county about how to make our county attractive to young people, so they don't move away when they finish school. Obviously, most of the talk was attracting more industry for better paying careers. Then it went off-track, with arguments for particular dirt roads to be paved, and water services to outer areas. Oh well.

It's warming up to the upper 50's today, low 70's tomorrow, and 80 Sunday. Time to break out the shorts again!

Not too muich of a weekend planned which is fine with me. We might go to a friend's house to watch a little of the Super Bowl.

It is finally warming up a but here in CT and they are saying maybe some snow for Tues night into Wed we'll see!!

He is a wild one. He eventually calmed down. After he dove in to a vase of flowers. It's a good thing they're fake flowers, I can't have real ones in the house because he tries to eat them!

Same here! After being housebound by the bug for three days, I got out for a walk in the sunshine after lunch. It's actually above freezing today!



The office where I work is making the Super Bowl more interesting. Many offices do "squares" where you pay for a square. But my office is doing "squares" and divided them up randomly among the employees. It didn't come out evenly, so everyone got two squares, and the names for the remaining squares were drawn from a hat. I'm one of those who got three squares!



I'll try to explain "squares." A grid of squares is created with the numbers 0 through 9 (randomly, not in numerical order) across the top and down the sides. Across represents the Seahawks, down represents the Broncos. A name is placed in each square. Say your name is on the square where 7 across and 4 down intersect. If the final score is Seahawks 7, Broncos 4, you're the winner. Where the score is over 9, you go by the last digit---in the example I gave, you'd be a winner for Seahawks 17, Broncos 14. Some offices will also give prizes for the score at the end of each quarter.



(If I gave impossible scores for examples, please excuse. I don't know ANYTHING about football.)

The general contractor that I used to work for did the same type of thing, but never divided them up so generously

We had to buy in. I was never lucky, lol. The company attorney won most of them, probably the guy who needed the money the least! Ha!!

It turned out to be a pretty nice day. The sun is out and we have temperatures in the upper 30's. I decided to wash the cars since it was warm enough. The girls reluctantly helped. They didn't want to bother since it may rain over the weekend. I'm glad we did, they were filthy!
The day is flying by, I still haven't gone out yet to run my errands. I'm going to head out after I finish my cup of coffee. I have a flock of seagulls in my back yard right now stealing bread that I threw out. Bentley is watching them and he is all riled up again, lol.
I hope everyone is enjoying their day so far!!!

Do you volunteer at the shelter, or work there? Do you also foster cats?

It is an all-volunteer shelter; not even the board members get paid. I think I like it better that way. More money can go to the cats themselves. It is probably why we can afford to spend thousands in vet bills on a single cat. Even though they are in a shelter and not in a home, these cats are very lucky. We are the only no-kill shelter in the area, and as a result, we get many of the other shelters' "rejects" that would be killed otherwise.

No, I don't foster at the moment, although I would love to in the future. We'll see.

I wish we had a spring here. The closest one is almost an hour away though.

I don't know what I'd do without it! It is one of my priorities when I eventually do move away: finding a spring!
